24 games is the goal, why?

Because 50% in the Standings and achieve 7th position in Playoff's race

If you honestly expect much of a change, I think you're going to be sorely disappointed.

I don't expect much success. I do however expect a positive change in the Pacers locker room. If nothing else, this is just a fresh start for the guys and also knowing we will officially be starting over next year.

IndyHoosier
01-30-2011, 02:10 PM
Come on now. You're going to be disappointed if you expect a very positive outcome out of a mid-season firing in this manner.

Not expecting positive or negative outcome. Just something to come back to after the next 38 games.

IndyHoosier
01-30-2011, 02:13 PM
I say more than half only if we start to see more consistent lineups. Plus the locker room change should be good for their psyche.

01-30-2011, 02:14 PM
I voted for half, which would put us in the 36-38 win range and probably just outside the playoffs, lottery-bound, and get the 9th or 10th pick in the draft... again.

The team has the talent to be slightly above average, but to get back to average, it would need to play significantly above average, and I am not sure if that's what is going to happen.

Without the "difference maker" making a difference (about 8 games to this point of the season in my opinion, so the record currently could have been 25-19 through 44 games), assuming that the players adjust to a new normal and play the games that they can play and that they are utilized in a relatively logical manner, there is really no reason not to believe that the rest of the season couldn't be about 22-16 or so, for a final record of 39-43.

There will be an adjustment phase for several games, though, but the all star break should give some practice and adjustment time to help counter some of it. Also, if the franchise makes some other moves, who knows?

I expect to see a honeymoon period which could lead to a few wins. I expect the team to play with more spirit. I'd hope the interim coach implements changes to allow the players to play to their strengths and quickly finds a nice rotation and sticks with it. This will help with team chemistry and energy. Less Chinese fire drill and more discipline in the offense. Emphasize Defense Defense Defense.

That alone would stop the tailspin and make the team more competitive and put a better brand of basketball on the court.

How much that changes the record we'll have to see. I can't imagine too many coaches being worse than JOB at this point with the team.

Sookie

We go 14-24 and there is huge outcry to fire this coach as well. We get a lotto pick that we use on a college Senior, or a foreign guy.

Probably looking at 30 wins next year as well.

I don't expect our record to change much, because we still don't have the impact players that we need (at this point at least), but I expect the product on the floor to be greatly improved and the fans' satisfaction to improve.

I suppose it largely depends on whether or not Vogel keeps the current offensive/defensive schemes in place and how much of a heavy hand Larry has with forcing his preference on who's on the floor.

Of course, if Larry pulls off a trade and our players change in a more favorable manner, our record will likely improve. If that happens, hopefully everyone won't starting calling Vogel as a genius and question whether or not we should pursue Mike Brown or Nate McMillan.

We need one of those two guys and player personnel changes.

If we do hire Brown, I'll be real curious to see how he runs the team. It's hard to think ahead though with all of the changes in the roster that are due between now and then.

I don't care how many wins as long as they develop the young players, this is the year to find out what we have and let them grow, is time to sit Posey,TJ,Dunleavy,Foster and every other old player that is no part of the future.

I'm not bender (now known as I Love P), but he agrees 100% with me. I'm the guy who usually stands next to bender (now known as I Love P), when bender (now known as I Love P) actually makes it to a game, yelling I Love Larry.

If Vogel signs a 20 year deal tomorrow, I'll be the happiest guy in the world.

I would like to get back to .500, but that probably isn't going to happen. As long as we play the young guys and get a core group of guys that get used to playing together and know going into each game about how many minutes they are going to get, then I will be happy.

This team should win at least half their games, and I expect slightly more than half. Enough to get back to .500 I don't know, but they should have at least a .500 record. All of this is assuming that Vogel isn't a complete idiot during games.

I honestly don't care if we lose every game as long as the rotations and substitutions make sense, the players play hard, the players make progress, and we actually get to see what (if any) talent we have.

From what I've seen though, I think we'll win a bit over half. 20-25 of them.

29-53 FOR THE SEASON

We have a tough schedule ahead of us with a lot of teams that are coming along, I wouldn't sleep on the Nets, or Charlotte, or Philly... we will probably have a few upsets like we always do, maybe add 2/3 wins to that.

Wow, I just looked at a calandar view of our schedule we have so few days for possible practice. Teams cannot practice during the allstar break. Probably only 1 real pratice between now and the end of Feb.

Then you look at March and we only have a 1 two day break for the whole month. . April there are twice where there are multiple days off between games. but that is April .

So only two real practices between now and April 4th. Wow that is going to be rough. Things will have to be changed on the fly and this team isn't too smart, so I fear rough going and very few if any system changes or attempts at system changes

I guess the pacers have played fewer games to this point in the season than about any team

edit: yea, the pacers have only played 44 games, every other NBA team has played more. Kings have played 45 dallas 46 and every other team has played at least 47.

It is time to make the playoffs. I think a healthy dose of youth and experience could get us there. The youth that can't is Lance. I would rather see Dunleavy get the consistent minutes than him.

I would rather see Foster get minutes off the bench than Solo, but no more than McRoberts.

The play all the youth and forget the playoffs has got to stop as long as we have a shot. If we lose 7 of the next ten. Then I say shut her down.

TooBigNdaPaint

I'd rather watch Pacer games where our young athletic players are being developed and gaining experience than watching Dunleavy, Foster, or Solo or Posey stinking up the court with unathletic play and no defense. Hopefully, Frank will make playing basketball more fun for the players and watching basketball more fun for the fans. He's on the right track but I'd still like to see Lance get on the court (unless there's some unresolved legal issue) that's preventing this from happening.
