With people on here posting below average players as the thread and discussing why or how we should go after them. Players that come to mind in the last few weeks...Ryan Anderson, Corey Brewer, Omri Casspi, Kris Humphries and Deandre Jordan. Are you kidding me? I wouldn't pay one of those guys. I'm still waiting on a Eduardo Najera thread...C'mon people. Enough already.

I'm sure we had a Najera thread a couple years ago. What you're talking about has always happened and it always will.

If Solo wasn't on the team we would be discussing Solomon Jones as a backup center probably. I can see the thread already...Solomon Jones.

I can feel Mike Miller coming on as well...and Brad Miller.

Might as well throw Andre Miller in there as well.

Oliver Miller anyone?

How about Carl Herrera? I would love for him to play here.

No, your giving them too much credit. You gotta say like a Chris Quinn, Jamario Moon, Steve Blake, Joel Anthony, Marco Belinelli, Nazr Mohammed, Nick Collison or a Maurice Evans. Those are the type of franchise changing players that are being brought up on a daily basis. If we could just get two of those guys...I tell ya. I can only dream.

All those guys could be all stars and lead the Pacers to 50+ wins!!! If only we didn't have JOB as the coach!

Whenever you get the chance to get a Kwame Brown, you have have to do it in my opinion.

The only one I disagree with is Deandre Jordan. I don't think it's certain by any means, but I still think he could be a very, very good player. He shoots a ridiculous high percentage but that's easy when you literally only take shots with a couple feet of the rim. Last year he took 215 shots at the rim, and 14 shots anywhere else on the court. So he needs to work on footwork, post moves and/or a jump shot. He also needs to learn how to defend without fouling.

Is it possible for him to be a very good center? Yes, but it's going to take a very good work ethic and a summer or two doing nothing but dedicated work to improve. That FT percentage is pathetic.

Dude all those guys are young. Why go after a Zach Randolph, Chris Kamen,Nene, Al Harrington. Those guys have all shown what they can do, and how hard they will work to do it. IMO not very much. They have hit their ceiling and are on their way down. We need role player specialists willing to do what it takes to win. This is the Pacers. Our reputation and small market is not going to land us a superstar.

Then the Reggie Coming Out of Retirement threads will start because someone will think it would be cool to have an all Miller starting lineup.

Sadly I'd be more inclined to agree with you if those players were worse than who we had on the roster...

I guess if you dont wanna discuss the Pacers and NBA players, then a message board, dedicated to those very subjects might not be your best bet. I am pretty sure the point of this board is to discuss the Pacers, in whatever light you see fit as long as you dont offend anyone else. And I would rather be the guys that discuss getting potential good players in here, like Anderson, Jordan or Humphries to a certain extent, than be one of the guys that are just fine with Posey and Job ruining things in games. Let people be, or you will start seeing people start posts, "when will it stop, when will other people quit trying to dictate what can and cannot be discussed in a public arena, especially when that arena happens to be dedicated to the very topic".

Thank you! I have been so tempted to do a thread just like this.

Oh come on. There has been a habit on this board for awhile to hold players from other teams to a higher esteem simply because they were not a member of the Pacers. I posted this a while back in another thread. It is along the lines of "the grass is always greener on the other side" sort of thinking.

Heck I'll take it a step further. In your thread about free agents you would like, I took one look at your list and thought "Oh, good grief no. Here we go again. With someone wanting players that would just do nothing for this team".

People are talking about trading away 1sts, our unknown/unused young picks, and expirings for these guys.

I agree it has gotten pretty bad. I believe some posters throws a dart at a board that contains all the names of current players, development league payer and a few names sprinkled in that none of us has ever heard of before and then starts a thread based on that name.

If it is a Pacer that the dart lands on, then that player should be traded.

If it is another player, then that player would be able to produce for us.

Sounds like a fun game, but makes for poor discussion.

It's not a bad intent, however. The idea is a good one. However, it's based on misperception. When we watch the Spurs, we always think "wow, that George Hill, that Gary Neal, the Spurs find these guys everywhere!" Then we think we can improve our team by improving the 8-12 spots in our rotation. "If only we could have Spurs quality backups!" The same thing happens with the last player to get cut before the season starts. What we conveniently forget is that teams like the Spurs have 2 or 3 players better than anyone on our roster.

I'm gonna miss him getting past a defender off a pump-fake and then missing the open lay-up.

Exactly, and to be perfectly honest, most threads just say how good the player is doing for the other team, and asks opinions on how everyone thinks they would or would not fit in. If we are not to discuss nba players, then what? Should there be rules limiting our discussion here to Pacers, Fever, indiana college or red ants players? And if they do play out of state, they must have at least been in 1 all star game? Come on, if you dont like what the thread is stay out, its obviously not even intended for you, its for people who like to talk about basketball, in all lights.

I just think it is fun to debate all players in the NBA, and how they would fit on the Pacers.

The same thing happens with the last player to get cut before the season starts. What we conveniently forget is that teams like the Spurs have 2 or 3 players better than anyone on our roster.

Furthermore, Gary Neal and George Hill play well because they're surrounded by great players like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginnobli, so that not much is asked from them and they're able to deliver. Furthermore, those are veteran teams that can afford to implement the same system for several years, relying on the same types of players filling the same types of roles.

The Pacers neither have good enough players that can elevate their teammates to the same extent that Tony Parker can, nor are they in a position to implement a consistent system since our players aren't established veterans and we expect guys like THans and PG to take on a bigger role in the future.

So not only is the grass greener on the other side, but if we brought that grass over it would immediately wilt. Gary Neal would never play as well for the current Pacers as he does for the Spurs.
