View Full Version : Oh my God.... Ron really is switching to #91...

I think I'm gonna be sick :puke: ..... maybe not.

Really, the # in and of itself looks kind of cool, but it's who he's wearing it for, that I just keep thinking "The last thing you should want Ronnie, is to have RODMAN on the Refs' minds when they look at you during a game"

What am I talking about?

I was bored the other day so I emailed Bruno to update the roster page to put Kevin O'Neill in there. He just did; but I also noticed another update.... Ron's # no longer says 15.... it says 91.

http://www.nba.com/pacers/roster/index.html

I think the 91 is for good (at least this season). He wanted to do this last year, but they told him he requested it too late. Apparently he remembered that, and so has requested it really early to make sure this time.

So here we are.

I'm torn. I both think it's cool and a little disturbing at the same time.

I noticed this even before the page was updated.

If you go to pacers.com and watch the video of ron hosting his tournament, you will notice if you look closely that his pacers jersey he is wearing says 91 on it.

Well.. I'll be fine with this if Ronnie starts rebounding like Rodman, other wise, I wish he would have stuck with 15.

No, I saw that too, but that didn't mean he was going to wear it during the season; he could have just had that custom made (anyone can off of nba.com).

15? When was Ron going to wear 15? I know when he was traded here he wore 15.

It's probably one more sign, albeit a small one, that Ron doesn't have a full grasp on the reality of the situation.

15? When was Ron going to wear 15? I know when he was traded here he wore 15.

Ron switched to 23 two years ago as a tribute to Jordan's last year. He was going to switch back to his traditional 15 last year, but didn't inform the team/league in time, so they wouldn't let him switch to 15 and he stayed with 23 for another season. We all assumed he'd finally reclaim his old number this season.

It's just a number stiched on a jersey.

Obnox.......thanks for the info. I remember hearing 2 years ago that Ron would switch back to 15 for 03-04, but when he didn't, i assumed he was staying with 23. Him switching to 91 comes as a huge shock.

Actually, last year he was going to switch to 91, but didn't inform the team/league in time. Then around the end of last season, he wanted to switch to 15 for the playoffs, which he couldn't do, so he said he'd switch back for this year. Now he's going with 91.

Yeah, I remember it. At the time, I think some of us assumed that the "You asked too late" was just a nice way of Walsh/Bird saying "No way in hell will we let you wear Rodman's #".

I remember him saying he wanted to wear a different number every year, for each of his Bulls idols. 23 for Jordan, 91 for Rodman, then maybe 33 for Pippen and then whatever Ron Harper's and Luc Longley's numbers were.

That's the story I remember too.

Doesn't matter to me, I'm just glad he's not "honoring" Jordan anymore.

As Mike Wilbon says, "Indy and Detroit are the only places where they booed MJ, and actually meant it."

I know somebody is going to put a  at me, but I just feel that this is still yet another sign that Ron just doesn't get it.

It's hard to put in words why I feel this is just another sign about Ron, but I do.

BTW, Rasheed is changing his number also, from 30 to 36. Something about putting his portland days behind him, i think.

Who cares... he probably identifies with Rodman because he is still classified as a troubled player after a full year of almost perfect behavior

So, if by some (unlikely?) chance Ron's number gets retired years and years from now... which one will it be (and how many will he have by then?)

If his # got retired, and he never settles on one, it'd probably list them all lol

I would think they would go with 15, because that's the only one he wears that's not a tribute to someone else, right?

Didn't he have that number in Atlanta? I dunno about putting his portland days behind him, thought at the time I heard he said he was just adding Bonzi Well's number to his own.

Big freakin' deal.

Whoop-dee-freakin'-do...

It's a number people. He could have 3.141592653589793 on his jersey for all I care...just as long as his attitude and game keep improving...
