The Indianapolis Colts' longest rookie holdout since 1987 has ended with second-round draft pick Bob Sanders agreeing to contract terms.

Marion Sanders told The Star this morning his son agreed to terms. There was no announcement from the team and Neil Cornrich, Bob Sanders' agent, did not immediately return a telephone call.

"I guess it got done (Thursday) night," Marion Sanders said. "He's pretty excited about it."

The elder Sanders said his son has been in Indianapolis "for about the last month or so."

Sanders was the Colts' first pick in the April draft, a second-round selection and the 44th overall. He is the last of the draft class to agree to terms.

Sanders' holdout encompassed 26 days and forced him to miss the Colts' first two preseason games. He also will not play in Saturday night's game in the RCA Dome with the Buffalo Bills.

Sanders' 26-day absence eclipsed the 25-day holdout of offensive tackle Tarik Glenn in 1997. It's the longest rookie holdout for the Colts since 1987 when they were unable to sign linebacker Cornelius Bennett, the second overall pick in the draft. They eventually traded Bennett to Buffalo on Oct. 31.
