I was on this chat today and had a couple of my Pacer questions answered by John Hollinger. I have always been a fan of his but after getting his response to my questions I'm not sure if he watches much Pacer basketball. I wanted to share my questions so here they are:

Brian (Indianapolis)
John - Do you think Brandon Rush will and should start over Dunleavy when he comes back?

John Hollinger (2:16 PM)
I've never understood Indy's fascination with Rush. The only reason to start him would be if Dunleavy simply can't do the job. I think it's a little early to say that definitely.

Brian (Indianapolis)
Do you see Roy Hibbert as a future All-Star? If so how soon and what are your thoughts on him?

John Hollinger (2:23 PM)
No, but I see him as a solid starting center, and I wouldn't have said that a year ago. He looks in better shape to me and the reduced foul #s say the same thing, and I like how he's passing out of the post.

Yeah, I just read the transcript of the chat. Not much to take from his Pacers comments. He has always been pretty outspoken on his dislike for Brandon Rush. Rush always has putrid PER ratings, and in fairness to Rush, his strength (defense) is the weakness of PER.

I'm not sure what there is to be upset about here. He said Hibbert is going to be a solid starter which is an improvement of where he thought he would be.

He doesn't think much of Rush, meh.

Sounds like he pretty much called it to me. I want Roy to be an all-star as well but there is some pretty stiff competition with Horford & Bogut to back up Howards.

I think, if Roy keeps improving, he'll be an All Star at some point in his career, or at least put up All Star numbers.

Peck you forgot Lopez and A'mare when the knicks go small permanently

Good point.

Smits made the all star team one year and I think Roy can be as good as Smits, hopefully better. It just depends on how good Roy gets and how good his competition at center is in any given year.

I think he has a good chance.

I think it also depends on how good the Pacers team is. Smits made that team because he was deserving and he was on a great team. That matters. If Indiana can crack the upper 3, 4, 5 teams in the East, then Roy has a great shot at making the ASG.

Smits got in because Pacers seemed 'due' of more than one All Star, Ewing had that ugly broken wrist injury that year, Shaq left for LA the year before, and Alonzo was recovering from surgery for the first several months.
That's a lot of things happening together for him to get in.
His game was fun to watch, but really, there always were 6-7 centers u'd rather have on your team at any point in his career.

Granted today's center situation isn't what it was then, but still, with Howard, Bogut, Horford, Noah, Lopez in front of him... It's unlikely, even if he gets close to Smits level. Of course, winning can change a lot.
Ohh, and yep, Amare possibly.
And Bargnani too - Toronto is his team now, he will have every chance to produce 25-7 or so for years.
