I missed the game. It must have been on reeeeealy early.

Oh, well, I knew they'd pummel Angola anyway. Angola is, by far, the worst team in these Olympics.

NOW it gets interesting -- single elimination, I believe. We'll either have Spain, Italy, or Argentina next.

Yea Angola suck pretty bad. Even Australia managed to beat them by 25. :P

I was suprised that Puerto Rico only managed to beat Angola by 3 or 4pts tho...

So are Team USA gonna finish 3rd in pool B, behind Lithuania and Puerto Rico?

Don't they have to win three in a row now?

The thing this team can't do now is to believe it will be this easy from now on. A huge win, while nice, can inflate these guys egos to the point that they will take their medals for granted.

I was getting ready this morning and turned on the TV and saw that Team USA was playing Angola. I can honestly say I considered starting a game thread for it...

...for at least 2 seconds anyway!

Glad to know that there are at least some games that this team can put away as one would expect.

I'd be curious whether international posters think our loss to Lithuania or Serbia's not making the medal rd is the bigger upset.

Be interesting to handicap the medal rd. My medal favs goes like this:

1. Lithuania (they beat us when we played pretty well)
2. US - We're playing better anyway
3. Spain

Argentina's in there too.

It's more interesting than '92 - I hardly watched any of that.

****, Serbia didn't make the 2nd round, I've only been following Pool B (Aus and USA) so i hadn't heard that yet...Just saw the Yao makes 2nd round headline on nba.com but it didn't twig that they got there by depriving serbia.

Serbia not making the 2nd round is probbly the biggest upset. NZ beating them was huge and now losing to China. Tougher pool and 2 close losses against lower teams.

Lithuania was favourite against the USA according to some as the commentators stated so repeatedly. Those 3 3s down the stretch were huge, but 2 of them were good looks.

So did we play well or did they play poorly?

How did Angola get into the olympics and Germany did not????

The Olympics takes the best few teams from each REGION, not the best 12:

the three best teams from the American qualifying tournament:

1.USA
2. Argentina
3. Puerto Rico

The three best teams from the Europe qualifying tournament:

1. Lithuania
2. Spain
3. Italy

The African Champion:

Angola

The Asian Champion:

China

The defending World Champion:

Serbia & Montenegro

The top two finishers from the South Pacific qualifying tournament:

1. Australia
2. New Zealand

The host country:

Greece

There you go.

Question: everybody talk about how foreign countries have Olympic teams that practice year around, but what about all the countries that have one or two NBA players. Do they play year around and just throw that guy in at the last minute?

Most of thse players will fly home and practice a few weeks every summer.
