"I guess we think we're a better 1-4 team than some teams that are 1-4," Phillips said. "I mean mentally. They don't think they might not win the next game. Gosh, we might not win this next one. This team thinks . . . I still think they think they're going to win this next game."

I actually did not create this thread to fully ridicule W.P. and Jerruh. Do not get me wrong, I LOVE seeing the Cowboys fail. But the team really has not been beat by other teams as much as they are beating themselves. They move the ball between the 20's, they just make stupid mistakes and get all kind of crazy penalties in the red zone.

That said, can someone get them a trophy for being the best 1-4 team

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and head coach Wade Phillips remained optimistic about the team's chances for playoff contention despite a 1-4 start this week.

The Cowboys fell 2.5 games behind in the NFC East after a loss in Minnesota last Sunday. But the team has been crippled by penalties -- 11 in each of the past two games, both losses.

"A lot of people say the old saying, 'You are what you are,' when you look at 1-4," Jones to KRLD-FM on Tuesday, via ESPN. "We are not that. Our team is doing some very good things."

The Cowboys rank third in total offense and fourth in total defense. Jones, who initially said he was pessimistic about his team on Sunday, said he was confident the Cowboys would be able to right their season.

Only two teams have been flagged more than the Cowboys' 49 penalties.

Phillips said he was certain his team did not belong at the bottom of the NFL's standings.

"I guess we think we're a better 1-4 team than some teams that are 1-4," Phillips said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I mean mentally. They don't think they might not win the next game. Gosh, we might not win this next one. This team thinks… I still think they think they're going to win this next game. Now, we've got work to do and all that."
