Just heartbreaking. I don't know what's in the water up there, but this year we've had Hummel, Boldin, Smith, Mavre, and now Hummel again. After Mavre I was terrified about basketball season starting, but I figured it'd be Moore or Johnson, not Robbie's same damn knee.

Really depressing.

**** **** **** OMG I AM PISSED we couldve made a real deep run in the tourney. Now he wont even get drafted he was project the middle of the 2nd round.

But maybe he can medical redshirt and come back next year

he's a senior this year, correct? i think he could possibly redshirt, but if he's a senior now and if he gets his degree after this school year, would he want to stay?? plus he'd have to see if he could even play basketball again as this is the same knee's ACL that has just been torn, so who knows how stable that knee will be from now on. I'm and IU fan and I don't get into the rivalry drama at all...Robbie's a good kid and I absolutely hate to see this happen to him, especially since it's the 2nd time and the same knee/ACL. Talk about just having horrible luck. Not only do I feel for the team, but mostly for Robbie himself as now I'd think his basketball future/career is in doubt now. Hopefully he has a quick recovery and will be able to take the court again.

I don't know whether to be pissed or depressed. This is just about the worst news possible. I feel even worse thinking about how he must feel.

On the bright side (not that there really is one) it could have been his other knee. As bad as we feel I can't imagine what Robbie feels.

Simply put, this just really, really, really sucks.

Two seasons in a row with such promise right down the tubes.

Your avatar expressed all the reactions of Boiler Nation they mentioned this during the Purdue/Minnesota FB game at least Purdue won so that's good news.

Absolutely heart breaking. The starting point guard for the Uconn women tore her ACL this summer for the third time, it's just terrible to see this keep happening to players.

This was something that didn't happen too often, and is five times as likely to happen to women who play basketball, but I feel like there's been a general increase amoung men. (Personally, I think the shoes play a role..)

I'm sad for Hummel but my heart won't let me be sad for Purdue.

No, that's Kelly Farris (we love her, btw). Caroline Doty (She's from Philly) keeps tearing her ACL.

Anyway, it's getting to be a pretty big problem. I'm suprised there aren't more advances on it (prevention and such) but there seems to be disagreements on what causes these injuries. (For example, some people say stretching helps, some say it hurts ect..)

And on a non-contact drill too - horrible.

Yeah, Hummel is pretty frail. Terrible news for the kid. He seems like a geniunely good person, so my heart goes out to him. A real blow for Boiler fans. As a Hoosier fan, I was really nervous about Purdue being a national title contender. Just sucks for you guys.

Here is my take as an IU fan, first of all I'd just like to say one of my Purdue buddies brought this on all of you.

On September 25th, I was somewhat intoxicated down at the IU-Akron game when I heard the news Purdue had lost to Toledo, I sent him some friendly texts ribbing him that Purdue had lost that game. He eventually got upset, and sent a text that said, "It's going to suck for you when Maurice Creek goes down again, karma is a *****". All my texts had been friendly, something like the TOLLEDDDOOOO ROOOOCCCKKKETTTSSS, so no reason to say this. My reply to the Creek jab was simple, "You'll remember that text when Hummel goes down again in a couple weeks."

And lo and behold, as I'm standing in a bar Saturday morning what news do I see, but this. I have the texts saved, but I already told him that all of Purdue can thank him for his classless jab, and yes indeed he did prove that karma is indeed a *****.

Now that story being told, this is heartbreaking personally for Hummel, a medical redshirt will probably be applied, but does it matter? Two tears to the same ACL, his game will never be the same. A second injury to it in such a short period of time already shows that it was weakened significantly, and now it will only be weakened more. I will be very surprised if we ever see Hummel in the same capacity again, at this point he will have to work very hard to ever even play again, let alone be the same player he was before the injury. Very sad for him.

Will they rub that directly on the ACL, or the whole leg?
