View Full Version : So who else is NOT freaking out after three pre-season games??

I kinda feel that "sky is falling" vibe around here, color me confused.

Lets recap that Rockets game real quick. Virtually tied at the half, despite Hibbert and Granger having below average games.

Then to start the second half against the Rocket starters, we throw a lineup out there featuring D Jones and Solo, two guys who will spend most of the year in street clothes... why is anyone surprised we fell behind at that point?

For the record, that lineup also featured a PG who is brand new to the team, a PF who is (essentially) a rookie, and offensive dynamo Brandon Rush. Against the starting lineup of a veteran playoff team.

Its PRE-SEASON!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who pays zero attention to the outcome of pre-season games? I just watch to see how young players are coming along and to see what the team is running. Two things I've noticed so far...

1. Hibbert is getting a lot more low post touches when he is in the game, just like Obrien said. This makes me very happy.

2. Hansbrough looks like he hasn't missed a beat, in fact he looks better. Check his FG% so far. Much more efficient so far. This after we questioned if he could EVER come back.

I guess I'm not really that surprised when a veteran playoff team beats a rebuilding roster that is experimenting with lineups. The inexperience factor and lack of chemistry alone explains about half the turnovers.

I guess what I'm saying is, convince me to jump off the bridge... I just don't see any reason to be worried just yet. What did you honestly expect?

If preseason mattered so much, than Cleveland would be happy with life without LeBron.

And Golden State would be hot ****.

And LA would be crying for Phil Jacksons head.

On and on.

Some people just had their hopes too high thinking that the trade made us legit. I knew we weren't legit yet, although we are moving in the right direction, so performing poorly wasn't a big surprise for me.

I'm not in panic mode.

I'm in realistic mode of realizing that our defense in the Houston game, regardless of what lineup was on the floor, was garbage.

That concerns me.

I don't care so much about the loss. That's not a big deal to me. But the fact the JOB still believes in his defensive "system" and seeing how that worked out bothers me a bit.

Regardless, I'll wait for the regular season to see if we make any improvement.

We'll be fine. For the most part, we're still just letting our new and young guys play just to see what we have, which combinations of players work best together, which positions some of our players play best at, etc. Right now it is just a feeling out process.

It's preseason.

Besides the sky really can't fall when you would be really surprised if they win 37 games.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "Legit". I think this team can be slightly above .500 and contend for a late seed playoff spot still. I just realistically think it is gonna take some time for them to gel.

This is a team that aspires to 41 wins. Losing to the Rockets and the Magic does not upset me.

The wheels on the bus go
round and round,
round and round,
round and round.

The wheels on the bus go
round and round,
all through the town.

Unless, of course, the bus crashes due to driver incompetency. Then, its an entirely different story.

But, it is, after all, just pre-season.

I dont think anyone is freaking out, myself included.... It is after all preseason... But there are some things that are making myself and others uneasy... But this is a young team, and there are likely to be many bumps in the road...

I voted the wheels have fallen off the bus cause I'm a rebel. That and YOU should always be in panic mode as long as JOB is coach of the Indiana Pacers.

It is preseason so I will wait and be patient to see how this unfolds.

I can say this though, I am a little more concerned about the potential of this season, but that's probably me being too excited after the draft and Collison trade.

Also I have to admit if the Pacers were handing out beat downs in the preseason my expectations would be higher.

Before the Orlando game JOB was stopped coming out to the court, by Stacy Paetz I believe, she asked him what is the main difference between regular season and preseason. With out hesitation he said they were only focusing on the opponent 60% in the preseason. I don't know what else people need to hear to convince them preseason is not the final product.

I think you just have to understand that when you have a team that's so young and pretty raw, inexperienced individually and as a team; then you are going to have to play pretty close to perfect to get a decent amount of wins throughout the year and your going to need several players to step it up everynight, and your going to have more than your fair share of games that turn out like Houston where the whole thing falls apart. Its the nature of the beast.

I'm not. This is preseason. I've never seen the preseason put under the microscope this much. Expectations are high. We aren't going to unveil everything we have until the regular season.

I can't wait for the regular season...

I'm not at all. My expectations were considerably lower than most however. As is expected, some things have greatly worried me and some things have me very excited. So far the former has outpaced the latter but I'm hoping that will change before the season begins.

I don't freak out after three regular season games.

Preseason is so much different from regular season. It makes it very difficult to try and equate the two. I know coaches have to act like preseason is really important, and sure to some extent it is, but every team is in a different agenda - it is IMO impossible to determine anything from preseason games.

Expectations - I see this Pacers team as a 37 -41 win team. That is a 5 to 9 game improvement. No one should have ever suggested this team as constructed is "ready to win"

I have bigger things in life to worry about than how the Pacers are performing during pre-season.

No but the owning a house and trying to keep my job people have.

On October 30th is when I will be fully interested. As for now, I'm enjoying these pre-season games since there is nothing on the line. I'm using this time to catch up with good friends.

You know, I wondered where this whole "everyone is freaking out about the pre-season" thing was coming from. So I vote and see it's currently 50-1, and the one dissenter admits he was being non-conformist.

Sometime people need to blow off a little steam. Try not to get too worked up criticizing the complainers, or it'll become a full-time job here.

If your team is playing good, then you have something to get excited about. If your team is playing crappy, then it is just preseason.

the houston game was kind of alarming.. they played decent against the magic.. they really seemed to be trying to win that game, then they kind of just lost it for a couple minutes.. I can't even describe the Houston game, wow...reminded me of classic Pacers of the O'brien era. These players are PROS, so they have comptetive juices in them.. i'm sure they didn't enjoy getting killed by houston and i can guarantee you they werent like oh well, it's preseason.. some of these guys actually try out there.. this isn't NFL preseason where they take it as a joke and play a series or two then let the 3rd string play.. these guys actually try to make buckets...it's not like they half-a** their jumpers and shots.. they still want to play well so they can monitor where they are at.. I know it's only pre-season, but i'm not liking what i see so far. That could change tonight though.

Along those same lines there's not freaking out because you're confident the team can turn things around and then there's not freaking out because you know the team stinks and won't get any better.

No, really, if the pacers win each of their remaining 4 preseason games by 45 points, I will not get excited, nor will I change my prediction for thios upcoming season. (not to suggest I won't take note of a few of the individual performances, or think, good to see them playing well in the preseason) but I won't suggest that carries over to the 27th of October.

Did this bus ever have wheels to fall off?

We could all be happy with the team going 11-71, but I won't be, I want this team to win and they look godawful so far.

Kind of the opposite of the summer league, when you say it like that.

I don't freak out after three regular season games.

In a general sense, this is my favorite quote in this thread.

It's not the first time, but I do tend to get worked up by post-game threads. Especially when they contain 100 unanimous negative posts after pre-season games... which also contain Harlem Globetrotter vs. the Generals comparisons... in pre-season. You know... pre-season.

It compares to my general reaction to politics, I just can't stand the absence of reason in exchange for blatant knee-jerk reactions. I wish people could take a more measured response in general, I mean I get blowing off steam in games that COUNT... but come on...

Maybe I shouldn't get worked up about people getting worked up? Fair enough...

I'm not freaking out about the preseason. Heck, I wouldn't freak out after the first 20 games even no matter the record. It is way too early to try to see this young team gel and play good as a unit.
