View Full Version : IKL 2010 DRAFT THREAD - Here we go!

Los Angeles
10-08-2010, 06:02 PM
I think I finally got it all set up at Sports.ws. I tried to keep the number consistent last time and in trying to skip picks, the software got confused, forcing a reset. As long as the roster and order are accurate, we shouldn't have a problem. Thanks everyone for your infinite patience and understanding!

Hi everyone!

I still have one last 9-man roster that needs to get in, so I'm giving everyone one last chance to make adjustments to their protected lists before the final version is posted tomorrow.

We will be drafting on right here is this draft thread. Any player that has been drafted by an NBA team, has played in an NBA game, is in a training camp or has signed an NBA contract is eligible to be drafted. You may not draft a protected player or a player who is not an NBA player (NO NCAA FRESHMEN).

To balance the need for everyone to sort through their choices AND the need to move things along, we'll be starting the draft immediately after the protected list deadline - but don't worry - there will be no clock through the weekend. Starting Monday, we'll begin a 24-hour clock. That means that if an owner has stalled the draft for 24 hours, that person will be skipped until they return, at which point they can select from the remaining available players. As long as everyone is checking in to PD once a day or so, we should get through the draft in no time.

If we aren't done before Sunday, October 17th at 12:00 noon eastern time, the draft clock will go to a 5-minute clock. So whatever draft picks are left will need to be tied up on Sunday the 17th. At the end of the draft on Sunday night, I will load up all rosters onto Sports.ws. When that's done, I'll say "GO" - the season will begin and you can drop and add players directly on Sports.ws.

If you are going to be gone throughout the week, please don't hesitate to give me a contingency list of your top prospects. I'll be more than happy to announce your pick for you based on who is available on your list and keep things moving.

In the mean time, here's the current draft order and a preliminary protected list. You have 24 hours to make changes before it gets locked in and the draft gets under way.

Thanks everyone!

Kent

I've changed my mind on my dropped player. I want to keep Ray Allen and Drop Z. Of course that is no guarantee that Ray makes the cut down after the draft.

So do we have a time today, when we're actually planning to start this?

Los Angeles
10-09-2010, 02:56 PM
I have a request to load the protected rosters onto Sports.ws so that the available players can be sorted.

Given that I'm on the job, it might take a while to do that - maybe into the evening. Would you guys like to wait until that's done, or do you want to get started right away?

Um, it doesn't matter to me. Whatever is easier, I already know who I'm taking number 1.

Well, the protected list deadline was midnight last night and the last issue (other than the request to load up teams on sports.ws) was the expansion teams' released players issue. That vote has been turned down by the league.

Ladies and gentlemen, the draft has begun. Good Luck to everyone!

Trader Joe, you're up.

With the number 1 pick in the 2010 IKL Draft, the Vietnam Pandas select, John Wall, G, Washington Wizards.

John is thrilled to get out of Washington after fearing for his life playing with Gilbert Arenas for the past month.

Our head coach, Tugg Speedman, is thrilled to have John on board. This was him receiving the news that Wall would be his new PG

Mr. Wall couldn't be reached for comment on the selection directly, but we're told his reaction was to bust out his classic dance in celebration

I figured you take him Mourning, if I had thought he was going to drop to the 4th pick I probably wouldn't have traded it.

Couple of weeks ago I would have taken Favors without much hesitation and since he will be playing CF he would give me a bit more flexibility compared to a pure C. But, Cousins has been really impressive the past week and sometimes you just have to go with what you see and change your original intent.

I just hope it won't bite me in the *** though :D.

The 6th pick is very available, if anyone has a player they're after.

Also, I'm going to start looking at rosters that need front court help to work out a deal to get my team some backcourt help. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thank you VERY much for doing that. Makes it So much easier to sort through the available players. And I know what a PAIN it is from recent experience. :)

Seems they've set things up a whole lot better from past years. You can really manipulate rosters and draft picks very easily.

DD00, please be patient with us. The sports.ws site has ruined both the IKL and the ABAKL drafts and dumped all of the effort both scott and i have been putting into the leagues right into the toilet.

Due to work restrictions, I will not be able to load the rosters onto sports.ws until either late tonight or tomorrow (at the earliest) until then, you can still sort all of the 2009/2010 players in the "toys" tab, print out the list (takes about 5 sheets of paper) and cross check that list against who you see listed on the rosters above. It took me about 20 minutes to cross off each name that was not available and have a list of available players.

The real season doesn't start for a couple of weeks, and problems like these are why we try to get the draft going early.

Once the season gets going, Sports.ws is a real treat to play on. But every other year there's a danger of the draft turning into a quagmire. Seems like it's our time.

I had a clean print-out of it before the league went blooey and asked a co-worker to scan and pdf it.

Here's what I wrote in th ABAKL trash talk thread:

Honestly, I'm waiting to see what happens when we fill up the choices and we hit all those blank spots after 60. If the forum knows how to skip them and ends the draft wihout any further problems, I'll know we can get things set up here again. If it gets confused and we get stuck in limbo like when I asked it to advance past 1 2 and 3, then it's staying at PD.

Let's cross our fingers and see what the happens at the end of this draft.

I need to get out of this draft. I only have one pick left and I'm not gonna get anyone useful from it, nor I want to have to remember to check this thread 12 days from now.

I think I finally got it all set up at Sports.ws. I tried to keep the number consistent last time and in trying to skip picks, the software got confused, forcing a reset. As long as the roster and order are accurate, we shouldn't have a problem. Thanks everyone for your infinite patience and understanding!

I don't know what's going on, but these appear to be two totally different drafts? Why is it my turn to select on this board but do I have to wait 7 picks at hoops.ws? Anyway, since it is my turn:

The Groningen Geezers are proud to announce that with the 14th pick they select:

Al-Farouq Aminu

to make sure he doesn't stay with the clips and does live up to his potential!

OK< the draft has moved to sports.ws and if you look at your roster, you will see that Aminu is on your team.

There are a few things that need to be cleared up, though. I have two picks listed over at hoops.ws and I'm not drafting this year. Groningen and Young Turks should get my picks, respectively. Hoops.ws won't let me send them trade offers of my pick for nothing. Is the problem that their roster can't go over the limit? If so, I can draft for those guys if necessary (although unfortunately that defeats the purpose of my karma trade).

Thanks for the effort, things seem to be running smoothly, just a few last details to clear up.

I don't get all the complaining, about this taking so long when this was how the draft was set up in the first place? If the draft was still here it would be even slower. I'm sorry, but I can't get on the site during the day and my hours are long some days. Since most people could care less about the draft, why the rush?

Mourning
10-15-2010, 01:36 AM
Because it would be nice to get it done, because we want to avoid the 5-minute clock?

Ken

When someone takes as long as you did to make a pick you need to understand how it looks to others in the league. Its as if you could care less about the league, your team or the other owners that are making an effort to not drag the draft out for two weeks.

I fully understand where this game ranks in importance with other aspects of life.

I just don't think it neccesary to take as long as you did to make a selection.

My bigger problem is with Iceman. my post on the league trash talk board was more directed at him than you.

He had the pick right after you, was on the site just prior to you making your selection & failed to put two players on his contengency list.

I don't fully load up my contengency list but if I have a pick coming up I try to make sure I have enough players on it to help move things along.

This seems to be an issue every draft, everyone is more than aware of it but nothing ever seems to change.

Mourning
10-15-2010, 06:58 AM
Well if the software hadn't gone down then everything could have been done in a couple of hours. Personally I think a 12 hour clock for this here should be enough to make a pick and if you are not sure you can make it in those 12 hours then make a small list on your contingencylist.

Anyway, it's just a small annoyance.

SycamoreKen
10-15-2010, 07:15 AM
I understand your issues and agree for the most part. I'm just glad I'm done with this one. I wonder how long it will be before my team actually wins a game?

10-15-2010, 08:30 AM
Hey if we go to the five minute clock tomorrow I might not be on, I'm going to Chicago, I have the 60th pick, so just surprise me with whoever ends up being Mr. Irrelevant.

Yes. That's probably the biggest reason everyone wants to finish quickly
