Conley Unlikely To Receive Extension

Oct 05, 2010 7:59 AM EST

Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley is unlikely to receive a contract extension from the team.

Conley, the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, hasn't entered into discussions with Memphis on a long-term deal.

"My focus is me coming out with a chip on my shoulder regardless of whether I'm signed or not," Conley said.

"I'm going to play as if I was somebody working to get a contract and help make this a winning team. If we win and I do my job, then I'll get signed eventually, from whomever."

Conley will earn $4.9 million this season, the final year of his rookie-scale contract. The Grizzlies have until Nov. 1 to give him an extension.

It would be nice to unload TJ somehow and pick up Conley

I'm completely fine with AJ, and Collison.

It's nice to not have to worry about getting a PG!

Man this might be a hot topic/thread right now if we didn't wind up with Collison during the offseason. :D

So then we have Collison, A.J., Lance, AND Conley. I'll pass. Not that it wouldn't be a PR dream but if we are going to actually trade T.J. lets address a need.

Conley's salary is 4.9M. His option year for 2011/2012 would be 6.48M. I can see where they would not sign him to an extension at this time. At least right now, he is really worth either amount?

I swear, sometimes I still can't believe how we turned a sack of crap into Collison AND Posey. This is could be a bigger steal than the Pau Gasol trade. At least Memphis got Marc Gasol. NO didn't get crap other than Ariza, a rich mans Posey, with an extremely long contract.

Darren could be a top point guard one day. And Posey is hopefully have that Byron Scott effect on our team. I am a huge fan of glue guys.

Battier, Scott, Bowen, Posey, Ariza, and Artest last year.

This would have been really exciting news on August 10th. I still kind of can't believe we got Collison.

Darren is a far better PG, IMO and I'm glad we didn't settle on one in the offseason like Conley.

I'm also happy with AJ being Darren's backup.
