Jets' wide receiver Braylon Edwards was busted on a drunken driving charge early this morning, after cops pulled him over on the West Side and found he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system, police said.

Edwards, 27, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. and charged with DWI, after cops pulled over his Range Rover at 34th Street and 12th Avenue for having overly-tinted windows. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state's legal limit of 0.08.

A passenger was with Edwards but it doesn't appear they were charged. Edwards is currently in police custody, and will be arraigned later today.

It isn't the first time Edwards has run afoul of the law. In October, just before he was traded to the Jets from the Browns, Edwards punched a friend of LeBron James outside a Cleveland nightclub.

Edwards settled the case by pleading no contest to aggravated assault. He received a suspended 180-day jail sentence, and was fined $1,000 and placed on probation.

I wish he were still playing for the Browns in the AFC North. I miss watching him screw up twice a year.

However, I'm surprised he could get that drunk. He usually drops everything that comes his way.

Why would I defend him? he did something stupid. . . he deserves what is coming to him. Its unfortunate that it happened during the season though.

Miami radio (790) said today that he was also out drinking with Donte Stallworth the night that Stallworth drove drunk and killed a pedestrian.

Crazy that drugs and alcohol-related offenses are protected by the CBA, much moreso than other less serious crimes that (ex-Jet) Goodell punishes.

This could be a probation violation, though, from the previous incident in Ohio. If that's the case, he could be in some trouble. Looks now though like he will only sit out a couple of plays.

I'm sad to claim him as going to UMich.
