Well, not exactly...

LOS ANGELES -- Former Laker Rick Fox, who was traded to the Boston Celtics last week after spending seven seasons with Los Angeles, filed for divorce Tuesday from singer-actress Vanessa Williams.

Fox filed to end the couple's five-year marriage, which produced 4-year-old daughter Sasha.

The red-carpet marriage of Vanessa Williams and Rick Fox apparently has dissolved.

"They are both extremely devoted parents, so the most important thing to them right now is the welfare of their child," Fox spokeswoman Staci Wolfe said. "They are committed to working out what's best for her."

Wolfe declined further comment.

Williams has three children from her first marriage and Fox has a son from a previous relationship. The two had been separated.

Williams' publicist, Brad Cafarelli, declined comment.

Her film credits include 2000's "Shaft," 1997's "Soul Food" and this year's "Johnson Family Vacation." The 41-year-old has also appeared in Broadway musicals including "Into the Woods."

She won the Miss America pageant in 1984, but was forced to resign after nude pictures of her appeared in Penthouse magazine.

Fox and Lakers point guard Gary Payton were traded Friday to Boston for Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins and Marcus Banks. The Celtics also received a conditional first-round draft pick and cash in the deal and sent a second-round pick to the Lakers.

It remains to be seen whether Fox will join Boston, with whom he spent the first six seasons of his career. The 35-year-old guard/forward reportedly is contemplating retirement after 13 NBA seasons because of nagging injuries, according to Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Well, he was cheating on her...

It wasn't the trade. They had been separated for quite some time.

It's sad to see because there is a child involved. Nothing funny here because of that reason.

Divorce is never funny.

Of course it wasn't the trade.

It's true. Its sad to see a child have her home split up even when it involves a guy as easy to hate as Fox (although I can't complete hate him, being from Indiana).

I think of my kids and how common divorce is. It is sad, even though its just part of modern life. As a juvie PO, I see all kinds of sad stories from divorces. It can get crazy....

Considering retirement because of nagging injuries?

Seems to me like he's about to get rid of his biggest nagging injury. So he can probably go a couple more years.

Ooooops. Momentarily confused his marriage with that of Christie. My bad.
