Pistons Re-Sign Forward Darvin Ham

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - August 9, 2004 - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has re-signed forward Darvin Ham. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We are pleased to have Darvin back next season,” said Dumars. “His veteran leadership on and off the floor was a large part of our success last year. Darvin’s athleticism and tenacity on the defensive end are two qualities that we like having on the roster and we’re happy he will be back in a Pistons uniform.”

Ham averaged 1.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 9.0 minutes per game in 54 games during the regular season. He appeared in 21 games during the Pistons’ Championship run, averaging 0.8 points and 0.7 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. Ham was perfect from the field in six games last season with the club recording a record of 5-1 in those games. He played 20-plus minutes twice, including a season-high 22 at Denver (3/6). The 6-foot-7 forward scored a season-high 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-3 FT) in 14 minutes vs. Orlando (4/6).

The Saginaw, MI native appeared in the Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk contest at All-Star Weekend in 1997 and was named the most underrated player in the Southwest Conference prior to the 1995-96 college basketball season. Ham led Texas Tech to a 92-73 upset victory over North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and helped the Red Raiders advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.

**Can never have to many good big men. If Dyess or Coleman goes down it won't be a biggie because Ham will be right there :p
