Since all the other big FA's have picked a destination, I don't see him staying in Cleveland. My guess is New York. But I think Miami and Chicago are also possible.

Does the Nets have the capspace to sign both Lebron and Bosh to MAX Deals?

If so and if Bosh isn't 100% going to go to Miami, I'd hope that NJ somehow swings some deal to get him to NJ. IMHO....a Devin/TWill/Lebron/Bosh/Brook/Favors/Courtney lineup along with anything that they can get to fill out the roster is way better then whatever Donnie cobbles together in NY.

If not, then it's NY as Lebron isn't going to share the ball with Wade.

I don't really care, but I pick Nets or Cavs.

For the Pacers' sake, I hope he goes to Cleveland and that's where I think he'll end up.

Selfishly, I kind of want him to come to Chicago (where I live).

CableKC
07-07-2010, 06:30 PM
You would hope for that??
My objective answer is ...yes, I would hope for that. For Lebron, it makes the most sense short of playing for Chicago as it's the best lineup that I can come up with that already has pieces in play that wouldn't require the ball in their hands all the time so that Lebron can do whatever he always done. But part of it ( admittedly ) is my disdain for the Knicks and all that they did to try to get Lebron. I just don't want him to end up in NY.

My "Damn, I hope Lebron screws up big time" answer ( so that it gives the Pacers a breathing chance to make it back to the Playoffs ) is......I'd hope that Lebron goes to the most dysfunctional Team so that it's hardest for him to win a Championship. Here's hoping he ends up in Cleveland. :buddies:

But my realistic answer is that I think he'll end up in NY. :(

Lebron is making his statement tomorrow from Greenwich, CT, so as Captain Obvious my guess is New York. I think he's tired of having crappy teammates and wants to team-up with Amare or Bosh, but at the same time doesn't want to play with another dominant guard in Wade or even Rose in Chicago. I think he'd rather have had Amare go to Miami and go to New York with Bosh as opposed to Miami, but he'll take what he can get.

I think he would've stayed in Cleveland had he successfully gotten Bosh to agree to and S&T there. However, from a pure basketball statement he may be better off in New York as he'll essentially have a hand in helping Donnie Walsh sign an entire supporting cast for him this offseason.

I am a proponent of small market teams, but Cleveland has completely blown it when it comes to building around Lebron, so I have no problem if/when he goes to New York.

The Hall of Fame is the only certain landing spot I know.. the rest is anyones guess. my hope is he stays with Cleveland b/c with Miami or NJ it makes the east really difficult for the next 10 years..

Chuck Chillout

New York would be fun, as it would be the biggest star on the biggest stage.

It'd also make them easier to hate again, as they've sucked for so long it's been hard to see them as a rival. Of course, we'd also need to stop sucking so much to hold up our end of the bargain.

I'll think he'll sign a short term deal with the Cavs. Like 2-3 years then enter free agency again if he still can't win a title in Cleveland with the talent surrounding him

Perhaps the neutral site helps to build the suspense? I know I can't wait for the decision to be over now that we know where all the other big wigs are going.

Not only that put tomorrow if the first day actual FAs can be signed, so hopefully things start to fall into place

Smoothdave1
07-08-2010, 12:22 AM
For those not familiar, Greenwich is not that far from NYC at all and is considered a suburb for the NYC area. With that said, it could be NJ or NYK.

ESPN's headquarters are in Bristol, CT, which is right outside of Hartford and a few hours away from NYC.

My guess is that he'll stay with Cleveland on a short-term deal for a few years and give it a go with the current group and whatever else Cleveland is able to do.

Hicks

At the very least, his team has done an excellent job of building suspense. They'll definitely get ratings now.

Sollozzo
07-08-2010, 02:50 AM
Yeah I can't wait to see the ratings this draws.

Up until an hour or so ago I thought he was going to New York. Then Broussard, Adande, Bucher, and the Newsday report said it was probably Miami.

I wouldn't be surprised if at about 2 tomorrow, ESPN starts floating out there that Cleveland or New York have become serious contenders again so that they can boaster the ratings up. Nothing will surprise me as far as this spectacle is concerned.

The city of Cleveland dies tonight if Lebron leaves. They will never care about sports again.

They have built that city so much around him that it is not even funny (probably not the best idea), but that was their plan. Now I'd expect him to leave, and I'd expect them to never fully recover. I'd expect the Cavs to be playing somewhere else in 3-5 years.

I really hope he stays in Cleveland, even though it's probably not best for the Pacers. If he leaves, I actually want to see him go to New York. He and Amare vs Wade and Bosh, and the Celtics and Magic in the East, it'd make for good theater in the NBA.

It really doesn't matter for us if he stays in cleveland. I still would like to see him leave our divison but not to miami.

its funny though cause if he stays in cleveland. in 2 or 3 yrs every team in our divison could be in the playoffs possibly.

Here is Mark Cuban's comments about the Lebron thing

http://blogmaverick.com/2010/07/08/so-where-is-lebron-going/

So Where is Lebron Going ?
Jul 8th 2010 3:17PM

I have no idea. To his credit, this has been the best kept secret since the formula for Coca Cola. Talking to owners, GM, players, friends of Lebrons’ , no one knows.

So let me you give you my guess.

This afternoon I heard that a PR firm was telling some media outlets that Lebron was going to the Heat , but they could only be an off the record source. When I put my PR and Media hat on, that approach made no sense at all. Why would a PR firm tell them the plan and ruin the impact of a 1 hour tv special ?

They would if it was a misdirection.

Here is how I see it. Again with my media and PR hat on.

Lebron steps up to the podium. In every home, bar , restaurant and event in the State of Ohio, EVERYTHING comes to a complete stop. Doctors probably put a halt to the surgeries they are doing just to hear what he has to say.

In Miami people keep on doing what they are doing. They look at their watches and notice its past 9pm so they look for a TV or radio,, or turn on their phones and call or text their friends to see what happened with lebron. Then they go back to what they were doing.

At the time of the announcement , the entire state of Ohio is holding their collective breath. Waiting. Hating ESPN for dragging it out. Threatening to kill themselves if Stuart Scott offers even a single Booyah. Wondering why Michael Wilbon cant get right to it rather than talking over way too many LBJ highlights. Feeling like its been an eternity since the show started.

Then the announcement comes.

If Lebron announces Miami, all the sports media who reported the same get to write “i told you so”. The people in Miami smile. Maybe some have a cuba libre and go about their business. The phones ring and the Heat sell a bunch of tickets. Pat Riley buys some hair gel. Erik Spolestra stresses about what happens if they dont win this year. Everyone starts telling lies about how such and such player would love to play for the minimum salary to play with the Golden Triangle.

In the State of Ohio ? Forgetabbout it. People cry. People kick their dogs. They fall into a funk. Lebron instantly becomes the most hated person in the state, and equally hated by anyone close to people who live there.

Just as quickly Art Modell is placed on par with Mother Theresa when compared to Lebron. Lebron and his family will most likely have more security concerns than is imaginable. His kids going to school ? Heck, my 6 year old has gotten looks and comments when the Mavs lose… For what its worth I heard somewhere that Art Modell is still afraid to show his face in the state and Art Modell never had to face twitter, facebook and bloggers spewing worldwide hate.

On the flip side, If he says he is going back to the Cavs there are parties in the streets, horns honking, people kissing strangers. Art Modell sneaks into the state and gets a kiss. Everyone’s wife and husband, boyfriend and girlfriend all the sudden become prettier that night. People are pouring out in the street as if a war had ended. Instead of an infamous picture of a sailor kissing a young lady , there will be a picture of a couple, both in Lebron James Cavs jerseys kissing in the middle of the street. A photo passed through the internet as a momento of a moment in time that in the big picture means nothing, but for tonight means everything.

Which is exactly why I think he is going back to the Cavs. The sports world is full of uncertainties. When in doubt, go for the love. Which is what you do when you make the mistake of not coming to the Mavs

I think he will ultimately choose Cleveland, and he will be loved for it by his fans .. and hated by the fans of the potetntial teams in the discussion...

At least if he was SMART, that is what he would do ..

If it is about money, I see him goin to NJ or NY..

I still say it is Cleveland..

.
Cause if it isn't , it will tarnish his legacy thus far..

I think he would lose alot of respect if he DIDNT stay...

Wouldnt be suprised if someone tries to damage his property tonight, among other things. I always root for the small town market because like in the rest of the society and this economy, the middle class is dwindling.

In honor of this momentous occasion, I thought I would share the "We Are Lebron" commercial the city of Cleveland put out. They originally filmed it in a studio like the original "We Are The World" but it has been removed from YouTube. However, I did find the song with the lyrics instead of the video. Enjoy. I know that if I were Lebron... this would totally freak me out. That said, this whole media event was sick, and he is a real dick. Started? He always believed in it. Also, why does the NBA have a salary cap if this can happen? This is why you have a cap, to protect competitive balance to some extent. They are not going to attract a lot of talent every year for the MLE and LLE just for the chance to get an automatic chance at a ring. I never thought I'd see the best player of his generation go ring-chasing at 25. It's like Magic leaving LA to play with Bird, Parish and McHale, or Jordan leaving Chicago to play with Isiah and the Pistons. Very beneath what we all wanted him to become.

God, what a bunch of losers we all are. Why do we care if the Lakers, Celtics or Magic (Heat have no answer for Howard) can beat the Heat? I feel for Clevelanders. Lebron has every right to do what he did and I am not at all upset with him since he has to do what he feels is best for him. However, in my opinion, it is not the right decision, especially considering that he is from that area. I thought he was smart but this decision seems foolish to me.

I want to know if the fans who are burning Lebron jerseys would have not complained if he played for the same team (Cleveland) all his career and not win a championship.

Cleveland should be burning effigies of all the fools who couldn't provide Lebron with the right complementary players to win it all. Yeah, Lebron is great, but he's only one guy and he was never surrounded with a legit group of winners. Cleveland blew a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a team around a real superstar. No superstar will likely ever go to Cleveland ever again. If I'm from Cleveland, I'm peeved at Lebron but angrier at the people who have ran the Cavs franchise over the past 7 years.

An hour special where all the money involved goes to charity, a horrible PR move, indeed.

Sounds good on paper, but it's execution has very well been bad in terms of his image. Hell, we got people here who now can't stand the guy, and we weren't even in the running for Lebron.

But then again, there's that saying "Any publicity is good publicity." (Which i don't fully agree with, for that matter)

You do something that donates a very big amount of money for charity and the reaction is nothing except ..."Well he should have donated his own money!"

That's insane.

Come on man, he planted all those kids around him and donated money to "smooth" over the inevitable backlash.... This was a totally classless move on Bron's part. All he needed to do was make a statement via any media from anywhere and let that be that. But........ Bron Bron had to go on national TV and say "look at me"... "I am screwing my old team, and joining a loaded team because I am not the superstar I think I am"... heehe..

Wade = Batman

Whatever, maybe the Pacers can get lucky and land a stud in the draft in the next couple of seasons so they can compete with the suddenly loaded Eastern Conference.

With all this LeBron Circus act, I expect these to be raised in the coming years:

Can that Heat team beat the NBA record 72-10?
Can they beat another NBA record of 33 straight wins?
Who'll coach that team? If Riley, can he handle them, especially "offensive coach" LeBron?
Who'll be the "Jordan" and who'll be the "Pippen"?
When do you think that team will blow up?
Who'll be the first team to beat them?
Can they win a championship now?

I am sorry guys but this was Cleveland's fault, they had seven years to build a team around him and could not do it, they let Boozer go, signed Larry Huge, got the old Shaq and the really old Jamison.

And also if they wanted him to stay so bad why no make the trade last year to bring Amare? not doing it because they wanted to keep JJ Hickson was really stupid.

in all fairness they did try,.... It just did not happen for them... and I think one could look back on games 5 and 6 of the Boston series and argue "Bron" was the reason they lost... not his supporting cast...

The great one's make it happen... I think Bron has realized his is best suited for the "supporting" role.... Wade is the alpha male on this new Miami team..

But some of you on here are getting too personal, and acting like you know what he is thinking and doing, etc, etc... It's not completely their fault that they couldn't get better players there. If the Chris Bosh story is true, then it reaffirms that other stars just don't want to go to Cleveland. He wouldn't take more money to play alongside Lebron there merely because it's Cleveland. Being Cleveland is a severe handicap that was difficult for them to overcome. The fact that a lot people weren't willing to come there to play with Lebron freaking James made their job pretty difficult.

Miami has an advantage because it's a beautiful place for the wealthy to live. Wade wasn't going to leave there and Bosh clearly was eager to go there. They essentially forced Lebron's hand.

Unless of course the rumored Bosh sign and trade to Cleveland was a farce put out there by the James camp to make it look like he was trying hard to stay there when in fact, the three of them playing in Miami was the plan all along. That wouldn't surprise me.

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....
