View Full Version : Should the Pacers sign JJ Reddick?

It's time that all of us whom jumped to the conclusion that Reddick wouldn't make it in the NBA after he was drafted need to admit that we were all wrong about JJ. He can ball. Say what you want about him, but right now he is better than Rush, George, and Dunleavy at SG. Whomever signs JJ is getting a nice ball player.

No we shouldn't b/c we have more dire needs then another wing player.

I think someone will pay JJ a nice piece of change. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a team like Chicago if they land Lebron.

"Not a Reddickulous thought!"

There are at least three ironclad reasons why JJ Reddick will not be a Pacer next year:

1) The Pacers have no money to spend.
2) The Pacers are loaded at wing.
3) Better teams (Boston, Orlando, etc.) are interested in signing him.

Sorry, I had to.

Reddick has done well for himself, but we have too many wings, especially wings that spot up and chuck 3s. He needs to be with players that command double teams or attack the basket. The Pacers have neither.

If we didn't have so many Wing Players....then sure, why not? But all he'd end up doing for the Pacers is to eat up any minutes that Lance would get.

As far as I'm concerned, my future SG/SF is already set:

Granger/BRush/George/Stephenson/Inferno

We don't need another Wing Player.

Who is the next wing player you are going to suggest we get?

Why would the Pacers need another SG? Or another 3 pt shooter for Jimmy? When would George or Stephenson ever get any minutes with

Rush
Jones
Dunleavy
Redick

eating up all the minutes? When would Redick get any minutes to justify paying him?

This team has more wings now than an ostrich farm and KY Fried Chicken combined.

Let's please stop suggesting any more wing players. That is what's ridiculous. No to Reddick and no to Jefferson.

Redick can not stay in front of his own shadow, let alone guard a competent two guard. The last thing we need is another shooter than can't play defense.

can we sign Mike Miller, Kyle Korver, and get Joe Johnson for the max also.

I would say no, unless we intend to trade 3 of our current wingmen.

I'm all for signing him up to the full MLE. TBH, I think he'd be arguably our third best player at worst right now, depending how you feel about Roy.

The dude is the personification of "making the right play"/"playing the right way" etc because he knows his role is to snipe and help move the ball around. He will NEVER be a stat wonder at all but he will play with an extremely high basketball IQ and will work his *** off at all times. I would be willing to go all-out on him and then hope we can salvage useful players out of the whole Rush/Jones/Dun mess at the 2/3. Because Redick is better than all of those guys. I love his game (which may go without saying at this point).

That said, I think we could offer him every dollar possible with our cap situation and Orlando would still match it, so it's moot.

I actually think that we could use Reddick as another wing player. The only proven sf/sg that we have on the roster is Granger. Dunleavy is finished, and we need not waste any more time on him. Rush is mediocre at best, and JJ would be a clear upgrade over him. Dante Jones was a poor signing last summer, and didn't really do much last year. Paul George hasn't played a single minute in the NBA, and we have no idea how good he is.

I don't see how people can say things like "JJ would be a clear upgrade over Rush"

Look at their numbers:

Rush:

(GP)82 (GS)64 (MPG)30.4 (FG%)0.423 (3P%)0.411 (FT%)0.629

(ORB)0.5 (DRB)3.7 (RB)4.2 (AST)1.4 (STL))0.7 (BLK)0.8 (TO)1.1 (PPG)9.4

JJ:

(GP)82 (GS)9 (MPG)22.0 (FG%)0.439 (3P%)0.405 (FT%)0.860 (ORB)0.2 (DRB)1.7 (RB)1.9 (AST)1.9 (STL)0.3 (BLK)0.0 (TO)0.8 4 (PPG)9.6

OK, you can argue that Redick has the edge in some categories, but a "clear upgrade?!" Keep in mind that this is Reddick with Howard in the post drawing 2x teams, and these stats largely exclude defense...

Yes I know, he is supposedly "smart" and "plays the right way," but the main "highlight" of his season I remember, is getting a rebound against (I think) the Celtics in the playoffs with like 8 seconds to go, not calling timeout, trying to advance the ball (meaning no inbounds at half court after TO), failing to get it across for like 5-6 seconds, then calling timeout with like 2 seconds to go, meaning Orlando inbounded on its own end. Major choke.

Very impressed by his improvement since he joined the league, especially on the defensive side (from terrible to slightly below average), but not someone I'd offer a MLE salary. Gives up almost as much on defense + rebounding as he contributes offensively.
