1. BasketballValue.com focuses on plus/minus ratings

Here are the Basketball Value ratings for the Pacers players for the past season (http://basketballvalue.com/teamplayers.php?year=2009-2010&mode=full&sortnumber=85&sortorder=DESC&team=IND):

I like the “weighted difference” overall, offense and defense ratings. You can click a heading such as Overall Rtg Net to get the players ranked in order for that stat.

You can go to the teams of potential trade partners for data on their players.

2. Basketball-Reference.com offers more specific stats such as shooting percentages, assists, blocks, etc.

Here is the Basketball Reference Pacers page for the past season (http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/IND/2010.html):

I especially like the stats for players on the “Per 36 Minutes” chart. You can click headings to rank players on individual stats.

I am less impressed with their “Advanced” chart which culminates in “Win Shares Per 48 Minutes.” While on Plus/Minus ratings at BasketballValue.com Troy Murphy shows up as one of our worse players (13th overall, 9th on offense, 14th on defense), he shows up as our very best player on the WS/48 scale.

You can go to the teams of potential trade partners for data on their players. Or you can simply use their player column to look up individual players.

3. I am not signed up as an ESPN insider, but for those who are, there are Hollinger’s stats (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnba %2fhollinger%2fstatistics): PER (player efficiency ratings), VA (value added) , and EWA (estimated wins added)

What do you think?

4. What other websites offer valuable stats as we discuss who we ought to be trading for whom?
