So.......the plethera of issues we face

1. What to do with Lecure?
2. What to do with Bailey?
3. Where is Volquez going to fit in?
4. Should Chapman come up and pitch in the pen?
5. When does Dusty begin to cut back on Leake's innings?
6. Should the Reds make a run at Lee who will probably leave us high and dry at the seasons end?
7. Votto is playing an excellent 1st base and you aren't going to move him...so what to do with Yonder?

It is a great time to be a Reds fan

Man, those are good problems to have.

1.) I think Lecure would be good coming out of the pen, although he's a lot better than I thought he could be.
2.) I think if he's healthy Bailey is your fifth starter. I think moving him to the pen might hurt his mindset. I just feel like he's fragile.
3.) Anywhere.
4.) Absolutely
5.) That's a tough question. The kid is so good you don't want to mess with him too much, but you also don't want to kill him.
6.) I don't think so. I think we are fine without him and don't want to give up what it would take to get him. Great, great pitcher, though.
7.) Another great problem to have.

What would the Reds give the Mariners? Chris Dickerson?

Cliff Lee is one of those "traveling aces". Unless he's going to the Yanks or Sox I'd say he won't stay long anywhere he goes.

I'm not sure I would let Heisey go for a player that won't possibly stick around after this season. Chris has shown upside, however it's already in an outfield full of upside. Once you got Cliff, you'd have to sign him to an extension quickly, and a sweet one at that.

I think Alonso would absolutely have to be involved. I heard on Mike & Mike this morning it would take 3 young stud prospects + more. That's pretty steep.

Yeah I am with you. It is tough to measure whether a run at the playoffs is worth it or not, because unless for some reason Cliff signed an extension he is definitely gonna be out of here. The Reds would get compensation though.

That is crazy, but then again it is amazing to watch Lee blow a 91 mph fastball down the middle of the plate right by batter after batter. How in the hell does he do that? And with a 15k to 1 walk ratio...that is awesome. Walks have really cost the Reds this season.

When I was very young, and I mean very. Like 3 or 4, my dad shown me his first baseman's mit that he had signed as a kid by Pete Rose. He told me stories of going to Riverfront Stadium watching the Big Red Machine when he was a teenager with his dad.

That and Barry Larkin and the rest of the 1990 Reds sealed the deal for me.

My minor league basebally team won the fundraiser contest which was a trip to Riverfront in 1991 to see the then reigning World Champion Cincinnati Reds. I fell in love, and the rest is history. There is nothing like that first trip to the ballpark.

How did y'all get to become Reds fans?

I'll be honest I grew up a Red Sox fan for the most part. I started going to GABP a few years ago and really started following the Reds. I guess you could call me a bandwagon jumper, but I jumped onto a bandwagon that wasn't very good until this year.

Also, Eric Davis was my favorite player growing up because of his flip-up shades so I always liked the Reds, but up until about 2006 I always said the Red Sox were my AL team and the Reds were my NL team. Now, it's just the Reds. I have a hard time liking the Sox because of them being able to buy anyone they want, but I will still root for them in the AL. Hell, as long as the Yankees aren't winning and the Reds are then I'm happy.

I'm in a similar situation. My mom was born and raised in Cincinnati during the Big Red Machine years. She still can name the entire roster from the 1975 and 1976 Championship teams. Plus my dad, who lived here, also happened to be a big Reds fan back then. So growing up I heard tons of stories about Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Cesar Geronimo, Ken Griffey, and of course, Pete Rose. And while I was still a bit too young to remember the Nasty Boys and the 1990 World Series (I was born in '88), I've heard many stories about that team, as well.

Love my Reds.

My uncle was a Reds fan when I was a kid and he was like the coolest person in the world to me, so I was a Reds fan by default. I was 7 years old when we won it all in 1990 and I remember having baseball cards of Jose Rijo and Eric Davis all over my room. As I got older I completely lost it for the 1995 team that had Reggie Sanders, Ron Gant and co. I've been hooked since a pretty young age. This season has revitalized my fandom more than ever.

Before Ondrusek got sent down, he was by far the worst pitcher on the roster. I couldn't stand to watch him pitch, so I would turn the channel during games. Since he has been back with the big league club he hasn't looked nearly as bad. I'm glad Massett has looked more like his old self lately too. He was nearly untouchable last season. It's mind boggling the way he was pitching up until recently.

Game time is almost upon us Reds fans! I've been listening to some talk radio, and doing some research. I came up with a few things that really put the Scott Rolen trade into perspective.

Lets first take a look at Scott Rolen. Aside from the stats, the intangibles have showed up. He has taken over this clubhouse, and leads by example. Since his acquisition, the
Reds are a smoking 61-38 when he is in the starting lineup. He is batting .299 with 15 homers and 46 rbi with an obp of .360. His fielding has also been remarkable.

On the other side looking at what the Blue Jays acquired from us, this was clearly a steal. Josh Roenicke has an ERA of 4.96 in 12 innings of work, accumulating 12 strike outs and 11 walks. Zach Stewart who is in AA has a pretty good record of 4-2 through 13 games, but his ERA is 4.5 with 54 strike outs and 30 walks. And then we have Edwin Encarnacion, who for me at least was always an enigma. He is batting a dismal .200 with an obp of .298, and has 9 homers with 22 rbi and 24 strike outs. Edwin was optioned to AAA Las Vegas yesterday. What a shame to see that talent go to waste.

I'm still trying to figure out which team I want to root for consistently and at the moment the Reds are in a big lead. Just like Indy, the 513 gets cold in the spring months, and the fall months, and it's by a river. This goes for PNC Park just as well. BTW, PNC Park is nice, I'd like to go sometime.

GABP gets horrid reviews because the team has had it's share of bad years (15 to be exact) and no one shows up to the park except for Opening Day, the Civil Rights Game, and maybe Interleague play.

Hot damn! Reds talk on the Pacers board. I have to be honest, I never look at the the Locker Room area, so my apologies. My scattered thoughts on AC:

If Chapman is going to have any value for the big league team this season, it will probably have to be as a reliever, which I'm okay with. If Homer and Edinson come back, we will be able to limit Leake's innings and play Aroldis in long relief.

I have to agree with you. While there are many cases of this kind of thing not working, there are just as many other cases where it has. Walt Jocketty has proven over the years that he knows what he is doing, so I am gonna roll with him. Assuming this is true of course.

I guess I haven't checked the locker room for a while, 'cause I almost missed this thread. I've been a Reds fan from way back, just like my dad raised me. I still figured we were still a year away, the offense has been better than expected, Mike Leake, too. We need to solidify the pen, maybe a starter or 2 goes there. I know Chapman is supposed to for this year, but I was wondering about permanently. If we trade for a top of the rotation starter, I would rather try to get Harren over Lee, because he still has time left on his deal. The price may be higher, but you get to keep him longer. I lurk over on a reds board too, http://redlegsbaseball.proboards.com/index.cgi
under this same name.
I have the same gripe with merchandise, I hate to go into a store in Marion or Muncie and not be able to find Reds stuff ( this happens to the Pacers too ), but there's plenty Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox. Cubs I can somewhat see, but really? I also hate GABP being Wrigley south. I swear it was almost 50/50 fan split when I went at the beginning of the year.

The Cards are solid at the top of their rotation. I have no clue why they are pursuing Cliff Lee when they have so many holes in their lineup. I would attribute the dryspell in the Mariner series to excellent pitching. Lee and Hernandez are both the real deal.

Yeah, I noticed that when I went last year. Several of the rides now have pretty lame names, and the themes seem kind of lost. I have yet to ride delerium though, which I absolutely must do. I had my kids with me last year and couldn't do it. I am looking forward to that.

Is Son of Beast shut down for good? I never heard for sure. I love the coasters as well, but when I was watching delirium from the ground it just looked awesome to me for some reason. The Beast in indeed great, and I haven't rode the Diamonback yet either so I'm looking forward to that one as well. It has to be a hell of an upgrade over King Cobra.

Yup. It's shut down at least for this year. From what I've read, the ride has cost them $30,000,000 in repairs and in the past few years they've had a couple of serious injuries happen on it. That's why they took out the loop a few years ago. And now it appears they'd either have to tear it all down and give up or tear most of it down and reconfigure it....but that would cost a TON of money. And that would just mean more money being lost on that ride.

If I were them, I'd just tear it down. Although the Roller Coaster fanatic in me wants them to rebuild it. And make it better. And taller. And Faster. With 3 loops.

That is just a mind boggling number. As if it wasn't obvious enough, they are robbing us blind. Oh well, that is pretty much the norm. There seems to be quite a premium on entertainment. I remember last year when I took the kids I thought I was going to get off cheap and take them to Subway. Little did I know $5 foot longs don't exist within the confines of Kings Island. I will say though, the Pizza inside the indoor cafeteria-thing towards the front of the park has surprisingly decent price. I think it was like $15-$20 for a large pizza. Considering everything else out there, that's not bad at all.

I'm more excited about the 1990 team celebration than the Hammer concert. couldn't care less about him performing.

I don't see why he's going there, anyway. While his song was the "Unofficial" anthem of that 1990 team, he was a fan of the A's......the team we beat in the World Series.

That would be like me going to a Dale Earnhardt Memorial. It just doesn't make sense.

The celebration will definitely be cool, but growing up during "hammer time" gives me a different perspective of that aspect of the celebration. Regardless of who his team was, he was a significant part of the culture during my childhood. No talk of Voltron's dominance last night? I didn't get to see the game but was keeping track on my phone while we were out at dinner. I honestly can't believe he came back and K'd 9 in 6 innings. I was seriously not expecting a very good outing. Hope for the best, expect the worst sort of thing.

After watching the highlights, Edinson was DEALING. It looked like he had all of his pitches working, and the velocity was there (topping out at around 96MPH). Most importantly, he looked pretty comfortable out on the mound, actually shaking his head in approval of himself on a couple of the K's.

IMHO, our Starting Rotation should be:

2. Travis Wood

Yeah, he seems to cover more ground, and make good, strong, throws every time. Maybe he doesn't get to more balls than Cabrerra, but every one he gets to he gets there easier and in a better position to make the throw. He hasn't been near as bad with the stick as most expected either.
