This is trash. Reading this, you would think that JO injured his knee falling on a person's foot because he played in Puerto Rico 10 months ago. Or the fact that NJ took the eventual World Champions to the brink of elimination, but lost was due to Kidd and Jefferson playing in the tournament almost a year before?
Experienced players over the course of an 82 game season know how to take care of their bodies. In some cases I am guessing their workouts could be every bit as strenuous as playing in the Olympics.
The exception I would give is if a player was injured during the Olympics, like Reggie or Nick Collison was. But otherwise, this writer's examples are full of circumstantial evidence that doesn't make any sense.
That tournament lasted from Aug. 20 to Aug. 31 and was played in Puerto Rico as Team USA went 10-0 in competition with an average margin of victory of 30.9 points.
I know that 11 days playing in blow out games would ruin the rest of my year.
