Last game before the trade deadline. I wonder what would be better for Bird, a big game for Murphy, or a blowout loss.

Regardless I hope Murph plays well and the Pacers win. That's just the fan in me

Good to see someone else understands what I've been saying for a while.

Hopefully we all play hard and get a defensive/offensive balance and hold down Duncan in the post and the rest of the Spurs.

I'm also saying 11-15 believing we make a trade.

Danny playing with a purpose..

No All Star game and the players saying he is over rated. Give the guy a break. He is still getting over 22 playing through injuries. I think he may be ready to silence the critics. As well as Rush and Hibbert. We may **** up our drafting position, but as long as the platers we do have progress, then Im okay with it. We may be on fire going into next season with the missing the palyoffs barely hangover and that will motivate our young guys even more. Trust me, Rush, Hibbert, Price, and Granger all want to smell the playoffs in their careers. Time will tell...

They said on FSI that AJ was out with the concussion, I don't doubt they are being really cautious with an injury like that.

But it is yet to be seen how much time he'll get once he is healthier.

How come Danny can't run through screens like Reggie did? Danny never comes out open - how much is it his fault as opposed to the screen setter's?

I'd say it's mostly because only 3 or 4 players in the history of the NBA have been able to use screens and get through screens like Reggie. And a bit of it too is that when Reggie was here the entire Pacers offense revolved around springing Reggie open. Now the entire Pacers offense revolves around...well...I'm not really sure what the Pacers offense revolves around...

I am LOVING the tenacity of everyone out there.. AWESOME GUYS!!

Watson and Ford are actually playing VERY nicely together out on the court at the same time..

I think TJ plays best in the Marquis Daniels role of a slashing/scoring small fast 2 guard.. in spot minutes at the 2 spot..

Sookie
02-17-2010, 08:53 PM
Ford makes a better shooting guard than point guard. In fact, he'd probably be a good scorer off the bench. When he takes his shots, the mid range, he doesn't miss often. Head on the other side just chucks up threes. However when Ford plays point, the offense just stalls.

We shoulda won this game ugh.. I think it came down to the untimely rotations JOB employed..

Roy SHOULD have been in the game the last 5 minutes , Murph hurt us there..

And Danny played way too many minutes.. he played more minutes than anyone on both teams it looks like at 45.27

And WHERE IN THE EFFFF was AJ PRICE?!?!
There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for him going back to DNP-CD land...
NO FREAKKING EXCUSE!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but McRoberts should be getting more PT than Solo , .. Solo is ok, but he has been very unreliable in receiving passes and making plays...

How about Roy- freaking-Hibbert !!

I think that's exactly why the Pacers should just try to put as many lotto balls in as possible. We've already accepted the losing for this season. You're not going to get a free pass on losing very often. They should take it.

AJ was also on the list of players LB will not trade. (Liste being, AJ, Hans, Roy, Danny)

Blair will carve out a nice niche in the league if he stays healthy, he will be that hefty load to come off the bench and punish the opposing teams starting line up for a couple of minutes every qtr. Kinda like what Jason Maxiel was doing in his first couple of years in detroit. He'd come in and cause fits for the other team.

O'Brien to refs, "JUMP BALL, JUMP BALL! He had his hands on the ball! That's a bull**** call!"

I assume this came in the 4th quarter when Jefferson jumped on the loose ball and Granger just stood there watching as Earl came out of nowhere to make a play.

That was the single most pathetic display of not giving a **** I've ever seen in person. I'm ashamed to be a Pacer fan tonight.

You can't win with Granger.

Just to be clear Kevin Lee confirmed on the radio that Price was available tonight and JOB chose not to play him. Mark and Slick seemed perplexed by this, as they should have been.

Typical JOB coaching. None of his coaching decisions are a surprise to me anymore. He's a freaking idiot and needs to be fired.

The sad thing I thought while watching this game was that for most PD posters the big "win" was seeing Blair stink up the joint and single-handedly get the Pacers back in the game in the 2nd half.

He was well below his season averages, so that's not exactly a typical night for him. What we've seen in the 2 games vs the Pacers is not what a lot of other teams are seeing, for whatever reason.

He did get his shot stuffed ala Tyler, and that's due to his height. Of course I've never claimed he was a great offensive player. He's your typical "get rebounds and pick up scrap points at rim for 55% FG".

Regardless, I'll admit that he was the worst thing going for the Spurs last night.

So congrats to all the "winners" who still didn't see Tyler on the court, nor did they see the Pacers win despite Duncan's terrible shooting. Luckily the Pacers have no need for a rebounding specialist like Blair when Duncan only gets 26 rebounds.

Most "this p****es me off" moment? When I saw WATSON AND FORD on the court together, but there's no playing time for Price. I gotta watch whatever you call Dun's half-speed game for 20 some minutes and double PGs, but not Price.

You know, because now that we know he can play we don't need him. Watson and Ford are more than capable of letting Tony Parker go to town all by themselves.

Granger is almost annoying me with his play. Lot of iffy efforts and terrible choices. He and Dun right now are both getting like that for me.

Roy, Rush and Price are the only guys I can get excited for during games at this point. Even with Rush having an overall bad night I can still muster excitement as watching him blow past Manu for the dunk.

The final play of the game said it all - you got the defensive stop but couldn't get a rebound. There was one serious rebound monster in the last draft. Yes he stunk for the Spurs last night, but the Pacers were the ones that needed the rebounding, not SA.

Of course this was the only time I can recall the Pacers being badly outrebounded...and small ball does not have any impact on that, so really it was just a fluke.

The saddest part of it all was that Gnome, Duke and I spent most of the 2nd half texting to wonder if Bird's absence at times was to work the phone, or if Troy being benched for awhile in the 2nd was because a deal was cooking. That's where the team is at now. Yech.

I think Blair is a good player. And honestly, there are no "winners" in this situation.

But I think, and have always thought, that Tyler, under the circumstances, was the correct choice. For a multitude of reasons. This organization needed a marketable player, a well known guy, a guy without a huge risk of injury. Obviously there's a huge irony there, but it was still the correct choice. Conservative yes, but correct.

Now..as for AJ...:censored::censored::censored::mad::censored: :censored:

Really Jimmy. Really. I want an explanation. Because honestly, I'm not sure ANY of us could come up with a good reason to not play Price at this point.

As For Granger. I think fans ought to give him a break. He's been injured, Jim's messing with the guys that he thinks are supposed to support him in the future (Rush, Price, Roy) Coaching is god awful, no trades are going to happen...we're all frustrated with the team, imagine how Granger feels. At some point any player would be like "screw it..we aren't making the playoffs, I'll get my twenty and help us lose..it's not like anyone is here to see it anyway."

can we let them coach?

Speaking of..Larry Bird said "losses are on him" because we are rebuilding. He wants Jim to play and develope the kids. Jim's not doing that, clearly Larry...if you aren't going to fire him, at least make him play the younger guys.

Was a warrior. Right now he's playing like a guy that hates being out there and is sick of it, or doesn't care, or whatever.

It's annoying me at this point, but on the flipside I'm concerned that he has a reason to feel this way.

Danny from last year and Dun from 2 years ago are gone, and that means attitude and effort. Everything they do is missing the edge that you see with Hibbert.

Then the worry becomes "how long before Hibbert gets like this too?". Next DEC, next FEB?

This is what pisses me off more than anything. What is being accomplished by putting guys like Murphy, Ford, a hurt Granger?, Dunleavy, etc. out there for extended minutes. Hell, Murphy and Granger have to be averaging close to 40 min. a game. That is insane.

The reason for Price's benching is hard to understand, but I'm inclined to believe it is the same situation as McRoberts. Money talks. Price and McRoberts are being paid relative peanuts compared to the older guys ahead of them. The only reason that Ford would play over Price is that they can't afford their huge contracts sitting on the bench. If it isn't money what is it? Because it's obviously not performance outcome.

I'd add Hansbrough and McBob to your list, but I agree with the sentiment 100%. At this point, I don't see any reason to play about half the roster for the rest of the season. Give me a Price, Rush, Granger, Hans/McBob, Hibbert starting 5 and let all of them play as many minutes as they can handle. At this point, the only fans left are die-hard fans who care only about the future because they know the present sucks.

I'm as anti-tanking as anyone you'll find. I say the above solely out of self-interest. I'd enjoy watching the games for the rest of the year much more with that lineup than with the "best" lineup we can put on the floor.

I've defended O'Brien all season, more in my heart and mind than on this board, but if Price continues to get DNP-CDs in favor of 2 players who will never meaningfully contribute to a successful Pacers team, then he's dead to me.

I know I've railed against venting posts in the past. I'm a hypocrite, I'm sorry.

Sookie, that's the most pleasant and reasonable defense of the Tyler/Blair thing I've heard yet. I still think it was wrong, but then I'm trying to back off the issue. Obviously last night's game dictates the discussion a little, but much like the McRoberts thing I'm getting to the point of frustrated disinterest in the matter.

JOB and the youth, as I pointed out recently just imagine of the Thunder had played their mediocre vets (which they did have) instead of Green or Westbrook. Imagine that instead of giving the young kids 36 minutes and the meaningless vets 15-20, they pulled the JOB version of "developing the youth".

That's the thing that annoys me with JOB defenders, they act like there isn't a precedent set by other coaches. It's not even a "where you were picked" or "the team is/isn't winning" debate because of guys like Landry and Courtney Lee, or Blair and Sam Young now.

On other teams players of the talent level of Rush, Roy and Price don't flounder waiting for PT. And if the team is really poor that PT shoots through the roof usually.

Freaking PATTY MILLS is starting to get playing time in Portland. Portland is a winning team and have struggled to get Bayless big minutes, yet they found a way to run Mills out there fresh off his return from the pre-season injury.

What JOB is doing is dramatically in contrast to what nearly every other team is doing. His version of "developing the kids" is grudgingly letting them play 25 minutes, though hopefully only a couple of them.

I like Watson more than Price, but Watson's defense has become a problem. There is no good reason for Watson to return next year, the team has Price and claims they liked what they saw. TJ can't be moved and has resumed his playing time.

So playing Watson, ESPECIALLY in a double PG situation like last night, is about the same as playing Rasho more than Roy last year. It's exactly the same.

Who thinks OKC would have played Rasho more than Roy last year? We know how OKC handled Watson vs a young PG prospect already.

Durant is key for them, sure, but they've also been committed to their young talent and it's paying off now. It's not like Durant, Green and Westbrook were winning at this level, or that Harden has been so good that he's the key. The kids are better because they were developed, that's why they are winning now.

That's a 3 year plan, 2 years of Rush and Roy being awful for 36 minutes which pays off in year 3 as they figure it out. Or you can linger that on out for 2-3 more years while you play "key future guys" like Rasho, Watson, Troy, Dun and TJ.

He likes to take credit for that, but the Larry Loves his Wild Turkey idea came from my buddy Alec.

See, Larry was drunk dialing Cleveland and Sacramento over the weekend, and in a drunken stupor he was asking for everything. A first round pick, seasoned veterans, cash money...a boat. I mean c'mon, no wonder he got turned down by so many teams.

I agree with this, and I am sick of all this hindsight crap with Blair. The fact is the pacers didn't just pass on him, 30 teams passed on him. All 30. Dude had no ACLs and not a gm in the league was willing to take the risk on him in the first round. To suggest we somehow "screwed up" because we didn't go crazy trying to get a early second rounder just to land this guy is a serious stretch.

He has looked pretty good so far, but ultimatly he is a role player in the NBA. He is not overly mobile or athletic, and would have been a poor fit next to Hibbert... who clearly displayed he was a much more valuable player than Blair last night. Blair might end up a pretty good player, but he is not anyone who was going to make or break this team. The pacers did just fine in the second round anyway, and I would rather have Price than Blair... because to move up in the second round would have most likely cost us the pick we used on Price.
