To Head's credit, he is the only one driving to the basket at this point. And this shooting right now is atrocious. But when no one away from the ball is moving, these are the kind of shots you have to expect.

I think this game is only showing me more and more than Brandon Rush is our best ball handler. Now, in a full court game under pressure, I'm not sure how he would hold up, but in terms of the half court offense he is great with the ball in his hands. I would still like to see him get 5 minutes a game at PG just for a trial period. It would give us a huge matchup advantage, he can guard PG's and could post up players 4 inches smaller than him with ease.

He's not a bad ball handler, but I don't want to see that guy run the point. He can't initiate offense or create for others. As Seth says all the time, Brandon is a better in between guy.

Whenever it is that we make the playoffs, I can promise ya'll that Brandon Rush will start to get a lot of attention for his defense. I honestl believe he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA, certainly the best man-to-man defender the Pacers have had since as long as I can remember, even over Artest(though Artest was better at getting inside peoples heads and team defense).

Its not like our other PGs are really good at initiating the offense anyway - I mean, we hardly run on offense as it is. Rush would just bring the ball up, find the first pass which anyone can do, and go from there. The matchup advantage would be huge.

Not overall no, but man-to-man in terms of staying on his guy, getting a hand in his face and so on, I rarely see Rush out of position. Like I said, Artest was a much better team defender and could get into almost anyones head.

I agree, BUT I wouldn't go so far as saying .. as you put it.."by a long shot"

I believe Rush most definitely has the potential... and that within a few years . he may match or exceed the level of defense played by Ron Artest in his prime...

That is ... IF he keeps at it and progresses...... and doesn't regress ..

I suppose there is one good thing that I believe WILL come out of us shooting alll those 3's the first half of this season....

We will have gotten ALOT of practice behind the arc.. thus inadvertantly getting better...LOL

And I believe that this 2nd half of the season.. the law of averages will swing in our favor BIGTIME...as far as our 3 pt shooting "makes" ...

just enough to get us in the playoffs ...

Unless you are just totally hopeless..
One doesn't NOT get better by continuously shooting a certain shot....

While I absolutely hate that we shoot so many "bad 3's" , I think in the end it will have made us a better 3 point shooting team.. But we are paying for it now. lol

Three Trophies of the Game

Bronze: Brandon Rush
He shot well again and is really coming around. This is great to see. He finished with 16 points and was 3/5 for 3. He also defended well.

Silver: Danny Granger
Most of his points came from the first half. He looked like his regular self again and was getting in almost all of his shots. He played his usual defense.

Gold: Dahntay Jones
He was very effective coming off the bench. His defense was the biggest help as well as his 18 points in a little less than 26 minutes. He's been looking good again scoring and defensively lately and let's hope he continues it coming off the bench.

Many here don't want to hear it but I think Hibbert is better coming off the bench.

Ok I was saving this for the post game thread, but I can't resist a reply to you Alex, because it addresses the main thing I noticed this game.

I saw some good things with the lineups by Jim tonight, some bad too, but an improvement. Maybe after 100+ games he is starting to realize Hibbert and Troy don't play well together.

In this game, Hibbert and Troy did not play one minute on the floor together. Brilliant! :brilliant
It is about time... I don't mind Murph getting a few mins. 15-20 mins whatever... But Roy should be the man, it is obvious they are terrible when on the floor together. It is one or the other.

Now If our coach can bring Murph off the bench, have Hibbert start, have Dahntay instead of Head start and we have our starting lineup that is very effective.

for the bad..

I have no idea why Mike Jr. was even out on the court. He is terrible, at least he was in this game. He looked like a passive Brandon Rush out there except no defense. Maybe our coach thinks his amazing aura of basketball IQ will soak into our players by osmosis. I dunno.

Dahntay has been poorly underused lately. I loved to see them post him up multiple times to close out the game. That was great basketball. I don't know if the coaches called that out, or they just saw Dahntay was fired up and ready to totally pwn Lou Williams and got him the ball. If only they would do that with Roy. I know you don't want to feed the low post every play... but there were so many times I saw Dahntay, Luther, even Rush took a contested jump shot instead of feeding a wide open Hibbert when they were supposed to be the post feeder.

There was a point around the 6 min mark in the 4th that Jim took out Dahntay and he was really pissed off about it. He was yelling at the coaching staff, whatever he said must've made them rethink that sub, because he was put in the next play for Mike Jr... which was the right call, and should've been the original sub. I'm guessing that's what he was pissed off about. /shrug

'Twas a Good Game. Let's hope this is a sign our coach is on the right path... after half a season, on figuring out our teams chemistry

Rush allows himself to get blocked too much.
Power at the rim is not his game, that's for sure. Probably why he avoids situations that would draw fouls more. But at least he's a SG getting blocked by guys a 5-8 inches bigger than him.

Gotta hand it to them, that was a solid rotation for the most part and really outstanding defensive effort in the 2nd half. To me this win was driven totally by Granger, Rush, Jones and Hibbert. When you had 3 of those 4 on the court you saw better defense and yet still enough offense. Roy is getting pretty good about closing out and using his length on wings to intimidate shots.

I finally got to see Head and Jones used more appropriately. Head was able to use his speed and make some nice attack drives, then later we saw Jones just abuse his man with size. Neither one is the perfect solution, they both have situations.

Dun was acceptable I guess, but apart from a brief blip here and there he seems mostly far below his pre-injury level still. It really feels like he has days where he's feeling good and strong and then after a tough game something flairs up or something.

Maybe it's something else, but he barely seems to impact games even when he gets 20 minutes. This was the #2 offensive player 2 years ago.

D-BONE

The rotation was definitely good. Personally, it doesn't matter if Dahntay starts, but he should see good minutes and finish a lot due to his defense. Murphy or Roy + DG, DJ, BR, and a PG. That's small ball and I still say it's our best lineup.

Luther or Dahntay is way more effective as a sixth man that MDJ right now. Maybe Mike eventually regains something consistent, but so far it's more consistently woeful than cause for optimism. Just hoping Roy and Rush keep moving forward. That would probably be the best development for the long term.

I was only able to catch glimpses of the game before falling asleep, but from what I can tell.....AJ did a good job of guarding Iverson. Overall, can someone confirm this for me that clearly has a better eye for defense?

AJ is quick and did a really good job of keeping in front of Iverson most of the time. At the very least....it was difficult for Iverson to get a totally open look.
