He is not a very consistant shooter. .346 from 3 point rainge, .397 overall, and took a lot of shots to average 17.6 ppg last season.

Did you go to the Butler game @ Hinkle? If so why did you ruin my good fun? Gordan Heyword is going be a better pro than Vaden. He is a decent player, good range/quick release but the kid thinks he is Kobe & MJ. Due to his attitude I think he would hurt our team.

Vaden plays with heart... a late 2nd rnd pick on him would not be wasted. IMHO

If memory serves me correctly, Vaden's name has already been on the police blotter in Bloomington a couple times. Maybe in Alabama as well? I seem to recall the situation(s) being of the drunk and disorderly nature. That is what I remember anyway.

Great article on him on SI.com. Hayward is impressing at USA Trials. Great news for Butler.

If Robert Vaden is the next Reggie, then Shade is the next McKey and Peck is the next Dale Davis. You can pencil me in as the next Smits while you're at it.

Why would the Pacers draft Vaden? I'd rather they just held onto Stephen Graham if all they're looking to do is retain a 3rd string shooter because you have to know that he won't see much playing time behind BRush or Dunleavy. Of course, that could change IF Dunleavy doesn't return to the floor anytime soon OR if JOB uses him more at SF than at SG. So, you never know. Still, my take is you leave the SG's alone and draft a PF and a SF.

Vaden will probably be a very solid player. Unfortunately, I really don't see where he'd really fit the Pacers' more immediate needs right now.

No he wasn't. In the 23-team NBA, there were only seven lottery picks. The Pacers made the playoffs the year before drafting Reggie as the #7 seed.

Ah . . . you need to explain this. If there were only 7 lottery picks, why wasn't Reggie a lottery pick at #7?

If your looking for a short version of Reggie in the second round I would say Meeks fits the bill. He could be a courtney lee 2.0.

Because Reggie was the 11th pick???

EDIT

We were the seventh seed in the playoffs. There were seven teams that didn't make the playoffs (and thus, were in the lottery). Too many sevens, I guess.

EDIT Again

If Cleveland had taken him with the #7 pick (instead of Kevin Johnson), he would have been a lottery pick. And we wouldn't care a bit about Reggie Miller.

I'd give Vaden a look and invite him to join our summer league team if he's not drafted late in the 2nd. He could be 3rd string 2 guard and could spend some time in Ft. Wayne this season working more on his game and might be a contributor in a few seasons.

And yes, he has been arrested a few times -- at least once in Bloomington and once in Birmingham. See the article from the Bloomington Herald Times from last October: http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2008/10/14/news.qp-6697835.sto?1245447513

Robert Vaden arrested after downtown incident

October 14, 2008

A former Indiana University basketball player was arrested on an alcohol-related charge following an incident downtown.

Robert Vaden, 23, of Indianapolis, was arrested on a preliminary charge of public intoxication. Vaden is a former IU basketball player who is now a senior at the University of Alabama Birmingham.

Bloomington Police Officer Ian Lovan was on patrol early Saturday morning. At 1:56 a.m., Lovan saw a man in a red shirt who appeared intoxicated and was pushing people in front of the 300 block of North Walnut Street.

Lovan spoke to the man, later identified as Vaden. According to the police report, Vaden appeared intoxicated. Lovan administered several dexterity tests on Vaden which he failed. Vaden was taken to the Monroe County Jail and booked on the public intoxication charged.

Vaden was a recruit of former IU basketball coach Mike Davis. He played for two seasons for IU, but left the team when Davis resigned. He followed Davis to UAB where he had to sit out a year.

At UAB, Vaden was one of five Blazer basketball players arrested and jailed in the early morning hours last Aug. 31 for an incident outside a Birmingham nightclub. The players began arguing and fighting among themselves at about 1:30 a.m. inside Club Red, according to a police report cited in The Birmingham News, and eventually spilled outside the club, resulting in off-duty officers working at the club calling for backup because the players wouldn’t cooperate with them.

The police report said officers were forced to arrest the players who refused to cooperate and continued yelling at police and people on the street

I was discussing this thread with a buddy and he summed it up nicely I think:

"I can totally see the Vaden to Miller comparison… except that Miller was a fiery competitor who could pass, play defense and shoot. Other than that they’re practically the same."

I don't know what happened to RV. At Pike he was the best player on the team, better than Courtney lee and Justin Cage. He would of been Mr. Basketball in 04 if he would of stayed in state his senior yr. Seems that he has been bounced around alot, from highschool (3 different) to college, hopefully he gets it together before it's too late. I'd love to see him on the Pacers.

I always thought Courtney was better, but never got the recognition... Robert was good and more people knew of him than Courtney so it was what it was...

I figured Lee was good when he didn't go to the bench when Vaden transferred to Pike (all-state player Parnell Smith did). Didn't that Pike team have about 9 or 10 guys who ended getting D-1 scholarships? They had 2 NBA players, and Cage just missed. They were 2nd in the nation to LeBron's team in the high school national rankings that year.
