The Toronto Raptors have acquired Reggie Evans from the Philadelphia 76ers for Jason Kapono.

League sources say the trade will be officially announced this afternoon.

The move will save Toronto financially.

Evans is owed $4.6 million next season and $5 million in 2010-11 on his contract.

Kapono's deal will pay him $6.2 million this coming season and $6.6 million the season after.

At least announcing the trades. I am not clear if/when they become official. Where is Count55???

I don't believe they offically can. That's why the Bayless/Rush+Hibbert trade had to wait a few days, or even a week, to become official.

They saved 3.2M over two years. That is a decent player they can sign.

If the NBA game was a 3 point shoot out contest this would be the trade of the century. I am sure a pick is involved somewhere. 2nd rounder I am sure.

Hopefully we'll be next to pull off a trade with someone.

Per our great friend Sham at www.shamsports.com, Evans' deal is actually 4.96M and 5.08M each of the next two years. Kapono's is for 6.21M and 6.64M, giving the Raptors savings of $2,814,400. Per what was reported in this article, that trade would not work under the CBA. Luckily, we have Sham. :D:D:D

The trade can be official today, because both teams' seasons have ended.

They could trade picks, if they wanted.

Both Pacer trades last season were delayed primary for cap reasons...not for limitations on the picks. For the Portland trade, they needed to wait until after July 1st to use the 2008-2009 salaries (the 2007-2008 salaries didn't quite match). For the Toronto trade, it was delayed so that TJ Ford would clear his base year compensation limitation.

Philly has been looking for three point shooting since last offseason when they signed D Marshall & K Rush. They acquired that with Jason Kapona today. Toronto needs a player to compliment Bosh. Evans does everything except need the ball on offense.

My question is this. Will Evans be a better addition than Jermaine O'neal?

I'm happy to finally see a trade be made hoping we'll make one soon too.

Just a little over excited. :D

Better with the Raptors I think so than O'Neal was when he was there.

I see a lot of success next season for the 76ers. Hiring Eddie Jordan who is a playoff minded coach making an early move for a good shooter in Kapono.

I see them in 3rd place next season behind the Magic and Cavs.

I think it's a nice trade for both teams.

Philly adds a much needed shooter. If Brand, Dalembert, and Speights can stay healthy they will be just fine up front. Althought they would still be wise to acquire a legit point guard to back up Andre Miller.

Toronto saves themselves a little bit of money but not much.

Phily's FC rotation: Speights/Brand/Dalembert

Could use Thaddeus Young at PF if they go small.

Jason Smith in the wings.

After resigning Miller or another PG and filling their roster, they won't have much money up against the lux tax.

Only one pick (#17), but may easily pick up a 2nd rounder if they choose to.

Could see them going PG for a back-up plan to the off-season (lessens Miller's leverage) and Lou Williams is an undersized SG, so I would lean towards PG - Flynn/Lawson/Teague/Maynor

If the Celtics trade away Ray Allen or Rajon Rondo they'll be at 4th. If not then they'll be 3rd.

I'm probably jumping the gun on the 76ers being in 3rd. Maybe 5th or if anything 6th again.

Finally the Raptors get someone who can rebound the ball. Unfortunately, it's about all he does...but the Toronto fans love guys with Reggie's gritty attitude.
