Ok, so a few days ago I had to write an essay about "My first time doing...(whatever I want to write about)". At first I thought of writing about the first time I rode a bike, but that's just lame, so I ended up writing about the first Pacer game I went to. It was about 12 years ago, and the Pacers were playing the Clippers. We won that game.

Although 12 years seem pretty long ago, I still remember the moment when I walked into the fieldhouse. The excitement just overwhelmed me, and it feels so much better than sitting on my couch, even with a mountain dew and a bag of chips.

I was just wondering if anyone remembers their first Pacers game, and who we played. (Come to think of it, I have no idea why I chose my first game when we were going to play the "mighty" Clippers...)

But 12 years ago it would've been Market Square Arena you walked into, not Conseco Fieldhouse. OTOH, maybe you meant fieldhouse generically just as if you would have said arena, stadium, etc...

As I sat here thinking about it, I suspect I might have been taken to an earlier one than this, but I can't remember enough to conclude as much. So this is the first one I definitely remember going to:

3/29/98

vs. Spurs

Reggie was suspended a game, and Smits was out with sore feet

Spurs 74
Pacers 55

What an ugly introduction.

The first game I remember as being a game, and remembering the opponent and the result was:

May 18, 1972

Pacers 100
New York Nets 99

Game 5 of the '72 ABA Finals.

I know I'd been to a couple of games before that, but I just remember being at the coliseum and there being a game. I would've been 6 at that time.

My first game ever was November 25th, 1992 at MSA against the Magic. Pacers lost 116-130, but it was a lot of fun seeing my first NBA game. Reggie had 29 and the Magic were led by current Milwaukee coach and Bloomington resident Scott Skiles with 32 and some rookie out of LSU named Shaquille O'Neal who had 21 and left the fans in awe.

December 8th, 1997

Pacers (97) at Jazz (106)

This was the game when I REALLY knew I was a Pacers fan. Reggie was ejected in the third quarter for arguing a call and the moment he got ejected I stood up in my Reggie jersey and started yelling at the ref. the entire section I was in heard me. Most of the people in the section gave me a glare. A couple of minutes later as I reentered the arena a couple of Jazz fans say me sporting my Reggie jersey and flipped me off. The Pacers may of lost the game, but I was hooked from there.

My best experience at a Pacers game was probably this:
12/01/2001
Pacers (101) at Jazz (97)

I remember this game well. The Pacers were down most of the game until about the six minute mark of the 4th quarter when they started to come back. It was with something like 30 seconds left in the game that Reggie hit a 3 from the baseline with something like 30 seconds at John Stockton flailed towards him. all four pacer fans in the building stood up and cheered. at that point we could see that we were severly outnumbered, as separated. This was also the game that Stockton got 3000 steals for his career.

Well, LA is closer to Australia so it would be more "logical" to see them I guess. BTW, I saw your pics, they were awesome!

I know there were games before this one but the first I remember specifically was Jordan's return to basketball at MSA in 1995. It was also my first time with floor seats. My grandpa brought me, my brother, and cousin. And the Pacers won. Pretty good day.

That's awesome, I should have definitely hit up my grandfather for more merch that day.

I remember the game being incredibly ugly, in Reggie's book he said it was throwback night but it should have been "throw up" night.

I really liked MSA, the best moment I remember there was actually that same season, when Smits hit the gamewinner in the ECF against the Magic. The Pacers were so popular in Indianapolis then, people who are newer fans to the team can't even contemplate how big they were back then.

Don't know if it was the same game, but I went to a Pacers-Timberwolves game and I remember Boomer really pissing off some Timberwolves fan by dousing him in silly string during one of the timeouts. That might have very well been in MSA though.

I have no idea either but I went to a lot of games that first year in the ABA. I don't know what year it was but the one game that sticks out in my mind was the 171-145 (I think) win over the Stars at the Coliseum.
