There are six, count em SIX, teams vying for one last playoff in the East.

Milwaukee, Chicago, New Jersey, Charlotte, Indiana, and New York all sit exactly 1.5 games within each other.

Now first of all, you're thinking, "It's the 8th sed, what's to play for, the right to be beaten in 4 or 5 games by the Cavs or Celtics?"

But it's more than that, it's prestige, it's experience, hell it's generating more revenue for the team. It's a win/win unless you're sitting in a deep draft class up until the 12th pick or so...

Anyways.

I'm gonna break down all of the teams' schedules, and see who, if that's possible, has the best chance to get in.

Milwaukee:

9 of their last 15 games are at home
10 of their last 15 games are against teams with .500 records are better
7 of their last 15 games are against teams with .600 records or better
3 of their last 15 games are against teams with .400 records or worse
10 of their last 15 games are against Eastern conference teams
2 of their last 15 teams are against one of the other five teams vying for the 8th seed

So let's see who wins each category:

Home games - Ind/Chi (10 of 16)
Vs .500+ teams - Cha (8 of 18)
Vs .600+ teams - Chi (2 of 16)
Vs .400- teams - Cha (6 of 18)
Vs their own Conf - Chi (13 of 16)
Facing 1 of other 5 teams - Chi (5 of 16)

I'd say, in order, the 6 teams are gonna finish as

8.Chicago
9.Charlotte
10.Indiana
11.Milwaukee
12.New Jersey
13.New York

Right now Charlotte's playing best, Indy second best so that's how I handicap it. Can't do more than that.

Look at us - falling like a stone, then going on a 5-game road trip. And we've been abysmal on the road. What do we do? Win 2 of 3 road games including at Detroit. And when winning 2 games in a row can get you this close . . .

Some team out of the bunch will have a hot streak - maybe 2 to give us a race. Win 6 of 8 or 8 of 11 or something. And I can't pick any except the Bucks are too hurt.

man those games we lost just because of our idiocy. if only we had won at least some of them.

charlotte will make it imo.

You're really better off that way.

I have not seen the video being alluded to, but I know of the content and....

Ditto. Some things are better left unseen. Like MaRedd naked in the shower. :shudder:

Anyway, I see the Bobkitties taking the last spot, with the Pacers nabbing the coveted #9 for the third year in a row. It really would be in the best interest of everyone if the Pacers got the last spot, though. They've played the "big guns" better than the other five teams this season; especially the Celtics.

Add a spot and a team: Philadelphia.

Could very well be the Pacers and Bobcats for the 8th and 7th spot.

I find that VERY unlikely. Philly is currently at .500... we'd have to go on a major tear and they'd have to absolutely fall apart for that to happen. They're 4-6 (less than their average) over their last 10. If they continue that pace for the rest of the year they'll end with 39 wins. We'd have to go 12-4 to beat that.

Like I said, unlikely. If they lose 4 of their next 5 (Chi, Mia, LAL, Phoenix, GS) then I'll add them to the magic number thread. Otherwise, it's not worth it.
