View Full Version : The Official Dribbler Info/Feedback Thread

Hey guys, hope you like the new look of the site. I'm pretty happy with it. FYI, the basic "look" of the site was provided with the forum software (borders, backgrounds etc), and I just basically designed a site "around" the existing look.

Thanks to Hicks for the motivation/gumption to make this happen, and to able for his mad-crazy webmaster skills.

As far as The Dribbler is concerned... obviously there's not much to it yet - just the one article to start things off (btw, Hicks figured out the "TRADE" on RealGM).

I expect to add MUCH more to that page. There will be an archive section, and there will eventually be multiple "headlines" with each new issue (kinda similar to the Onion format), with full articles on their own pages.

But I can't (and don't want to) do it all myself. There's a lot of jokers on this forum, and a lot of talented people. So consider this thread the official "shout-out" for article submissions. Here's how it works:

-If you have an article, or part of an article, or just an idea for one, send me a pm with full text/details. Depending on the quantity and quality of submissions, NOT ALL ARTICLES WILL MAKE IT. Please do not be offended or take it personally if this happens to you. It is also possible that the article will be edited, modified, spell/grammar-checked etc. If major modifications have to be made I will tell you before the article goes live, in case there is a problem.

-All ideas and submissions will be credited in the authorship of the article, according to your username. Even if you just send me an idea or a photoshop job, and I end up writing the whole article, I will give you co-authorship.

-I need volunteers to do photoshopping for me. I can do it when/if I have to, but it's very time-consuming for me and I know some people here are much better at it than me. Volunteers will be contacted occasionally with some sort of specific need (i.e., "I need a picture of Ron Artest wearing a hockey mask, etc."). Artists will get full credit in the article.

I think this system is reasonable and will work well. However, if anything about what I just said doesn't sound right, or seems unfair or awkward, please let me know and I will consider changing "the rules." In the meantime, please let me know what you think about the quality of articles, if you'd like to see anything else on the page, etc. etc. Things will probably get going "for real" in the next week or so. Enjoy! ;)

this should be stickied.

I have a question.

How do you make it so that threads are marked as new since the last time you logged out? And those you didn't read still aren't marked with new posts?

06-25-2004, 08:05 PM
It's in your profile options... (I think  )

Great! I already have an idea for one; but I think I'm gonna try to write it myself. I want full credit for this one.

I'm not very good at writing, although I am working on my Photoshop skills. Not that good yet, so I won't volunteer, maybe in a few months.

I'd be interested in giving ideas but i don't really want to write the articles. Also what exactly will be put in the Dribbler? Will it just be articles or will it have just a funny pics place?

06-27-2004, 07:21 PM
Yeah, with MagicRat and a few others, we could have a ton of great Photoshopped pictures. Most of them are most hilarious in the context of the thread they're in, but it might still be cool to have an archive.

The page will mainly be articles. If all you have is a really funny picture, it shouldn't be too hard to write an article around it . :-)

I may contribute from time to time, but I've got loads of stuff I'm supposed to be doing/learning to do on the computer, so I dunno how often.

Uh, since no one has commented on the "trade" yet...

Glad SOMEONE liked it.

Glad SOMEONE liked it.

Until I see it on ESPN and they make it official, I won't comment on it. I really think Pacers management is making a big mistake. What are they thinking?

Glad SOMEONE liked it.

Well, come on , how can you not.

Stick with that lineup for a couple years, and we'll get Greg Oden for sure!!! :applaud:

I've got an idea for The Dribbler.... but I won't be able to start working on it until probably Saturday.

It's not an article, but I think some of you might get a kick out of it. :evillaugh:

Wow, I just went back and re-read my original post and it sounds pretty authoritarian. doh!

I hope I haven't scared anyone off.

Seriously folks, any ideas are welcome. Snickers, I know you have something planned. Hicks has given me something that will appear in the next issue. Anyone else?

edit: vapacersfan, send me a pm.

And what do you guys think? Is it OK so far? Anything you'd like to see different? All opinions are welcome :)

I've got a couple things, rabid. I wrote them on paper first and now I have to type them up. :unimpressed:

I sent you an idea rabid.

Working on my idea right now. Depending on how carried away I get [and how lazy I get], should be ready sometime between Wednesday and next Wednesday.

07-05-2004, 04:24 PM
I have written one, but am working on the other.

I like the current issue, the first I have read by the way. Keep up the great work.

I need some dental work done, maybe Reggie could hurry up with that shop...:yikes:

When's the next one coming?

I don't know, but I know rabid hasn't returned a PM of mine I sent to him July 21st. I'm guessing he's been busy or out of town. Whatever it is, I'm sure he has a good reason. :dancers:

ok thanks for the info MSA.

I took the liberty of "unpinning" this one, we can start a new one when the new one is out. (IMO)

08-28-2004, 08:36 PM
Sorry about the delay, folks. Not much news lately, and I've been busy.

We'll probably do one decent-sized one in the next month, and I want to make sure it's good, so be on the lookout...
