Normally this probably is a "so what" post except there had never been a whisper of him being associated with steroids and a lot of folks, myself included, have pointed to his performance as an example of what could be done without steroids. What's interesting from the article is that about 10% of all MLB players tested positive that year.

This is a huge black eye for MLB. A-Rod was the consensus "clean, hardworking player." Fortunately, I don't watch a lot of baseball so I could care less. :D

He never seemed a particularly aggressive person.

I respect him for coming out and admitting it. I wonder truly how many other guys did the same in that time span? The pressure is on for these guys and I can see why they fall into doing the wrong things when things are not going great for them. Remember that a BB player average career is 4.7 years. I know A-rod will be around a while still, but the pressure to be better than the young prospect has to be overwhelming.

103.

And he didn't admit it - he got outed when someone released the results of an anonymous test.

And he went on 60 Minutes and completely denied he's ever used steroids. (before the test results were publicly known obviously)

even though i don't really care about (in a positive fan type way) or follow this sport- i think it's funny. i do remember when jose conseco wrote the book about roids and he was blasted by the sports writers for saying the things he did in the book. guys like palmero calling him a liar and testifying before congress about never using them before getting busted was a gas.
this news changes nothing for me. i just wonder when it will become absolutely irrefutable that bonds tested positive too. and that pitcher clemens will soon be getting his due as well.
people can talk about pressure but we also must face the fact that these players are also doing it to make bigger paychecks. i haven't kept track of how much the home runs went down since roids were banned but i heard they did drop significantly. coincidence i'm sure or, perhaps the pitching just got much better than before.
i want the players association to demand steroids to be brought back just to embarrass the game some more. but sadly, baseball will probably never die.
if they were serious about integrity- roger maris would still be recognized as the all-time single season home run king.
