Troy Murphy thinks long-term.

Last season, the pasty white Indiana Pacers forward/center said he was interested in becoming a licensed spray tanner after his NBA career came to an end. (Darko was ecstatic.)

This season? Well, this season The Murph tells Tom Noie of the South Bend Tribune via Indy Cornrows that he sees himself worrying about bridal dresses and flower arrangements, post-basketball.

Murphy corralled tickets for 19 family members and friends for Friday's game.

"I felt like I was planning a wedding," he said.

Funny, because Murphy insists that when his pro days are done, whenever that might be, he would like to enter that career field.

"I'm going to be an event planner weddings, bar mitzvahs, everything like that," he said. "That's my passion. It is. I've just taken it up the last couple of years."

He insists he's serious, but for someone who lists "Gatorgum" as his favorite meal in the media guide, you can't tell if he's set on it, or just joking. Troy Murphy, wedding planner?

"I wouldn't doubt it," deadpanned teammate Travis Diener.

Why would you admit this? Shaq wants to be a cop. Rick Fox was an actor. This guy is the Anti-thesis to Rodman.

You say that as if it's a bad thing.

Carla (Ms. Dukie) got him some info on coming down to her Tanning Salon she helps run. He is really into spray tanning. I mean really into it.

Troy is into some odd things for a pro basketball player. He loves chick flicks as well.

Oh, Troy.

If I was an NBA player, I'd make up so much stuff you wouldn't believe it.

Not saying that's the case here, just saying what I'd do.

And his favorite book is American Psycho. There are layers to this man we simply do not see in public.

Should we really care about this one way or the other.

Is one of them a good basketball player?

There is an idea of a Troy Murphy; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

It's a contest. Diener doesn't really have pet piranha.

That is great.

How did you even do that?
