This is something I'd been thinking about, and I don't think it's been done on here. This is far from a complete or coherently ranked list, but a post by JR in the movie thread prompted me to throw this out.

What are your favorite characters from either movies or TV? I'm thinking not only of a character, but, in the case of movies, specific actor/movie/character combos.

Here are some examples (again, in no particular order):

Movies:

Doc Holliday - Val Kilmer ("Tombstone")
Dr. Evil - Mike Myers (The "Austin Powers" flicks)
Hans Gruber - Alan Rickman ("Die Hard")
Mortimer Brewster - Cary Grant ("Arsenic and Old Lace")
Elwood P. Dowd - Jimmy Stewart ("Harvey")

TV:

Al Swearengen - Ian McShane ("Deadwood")
Doc Cochran - Brad Dourif ("Deadwood")
Lester Freeman - Clarke Peters ("The Wire")
Avon Barksdale - Wood Harris ("The Wire")
Mayor Richard Wilkins - Harry Groener ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer")
Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson - Gordon Jump ("WKRP in Cincinnati")

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch. Got any?

Anything withn Nicholas Cage, Richard Dreyfus, or Sam Elliot in it I'm gonna see. (Hey I'm a lightweight)

As for TV............don't watch it so I can't say. Only tv show I care anything about would be Bones, but that's because her facial structure (seriously) is facinating.

I can't believe I forgot Mickey and Omar...I love the pikey subtitles on "Snatch", especially the one that just goes: ?????

I also have to add:

Neil Patrick Harris as "Neil Patrick Harris" in "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle."

And the Tom Cruise character in "Tropic Thunder" was a lot of fun, too...but probably not list worthy.

This is kinda opposite, but I have to say that I've never wanted to see a character killed (and killed slowly and brutally) than George Hearst in Deadwood.

Yeah, I always liked Wild, Wild West, but never could stand Robert Conrad.

One of his all-time "great" moments.
