Trivia Question: Who was the Grizzlies first ever NBA draft pick?
Answer: Bryant "Big Country" Reeves was the Grizzlies' first-ever draft choice, selected sixth overall in the 1995 NBA Draft. After averaging 13.3 points per game in a solid rookie season, he averaged 16.2 points per game in 1997 and was subsequently awarded with a six-year, $61.8 million contract extension. After 1998, weight-control problems and injuries began to take a toll on Reeves, and his numbers fell off dramatically. He was still starting at center for the Grizzlies, but his minutes per game dropped, and his field goal percentage dropped significantly. His contract was blamed for tying up valuable salary cap room, making it difficult for the Grizzlies to sign free agents. It also made him practically impossible to trade, as few teams had the salary cap room to fit his contract in. He became the object of scorn by Vancouver fans and media. His nickname "Big Country" was used derisively to describe both his high salary and his enormous girth, as he once showed up for training camp 40 pounds overweight.
Eventually, after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2001, Reeves started the season on the injured list due to chronic back pain and was never able to play another game (the only games he played with the team in Memphis were two preseason games). He retired from the league midway through the 2001-2002 season.

I'm sure the budget tells them that they have to shave 10 games off the schedule. Isn't that the case about every season for the last 10 to 15 years? The games that are off the televised schedule just happen to be games that are on weird days or against opponents that the casual fans won't want to tune in for. Heck, if I had to cut 10 games from television, tonights game would be a no brainer. I know that it is a road game, but it is against the Grizzlies. No stars and a bad team, like us... When you throw in that it is the day after Christmas where it can be precieved that people will be doing family time. Leaving this game off the schedule is not that far fetched.

I'm not suprised tonights game isn't televised.

If you subscribe to NBA League Pass you can approve NBA Broadband on NBA.com, and then watch a Memphis broadcast. Its annoying though but good enough. They show a 8 second replay every time Memphis scores.

I'm not watching the game (obviously), so it's a little hard to tell from the score. But they are over 50% from within the arc and less than 20% from 3.

That tells me it's EASY PICKINGS scoring on us from 15 feet in. I guess fast breaks are more exciting so let's just do that...I don't want the Pacers to win anyway...let's see if we can beat them 140-135 and make JOb giddy again....

What team? The one without Granger, Ford or Dunleavy on the floor? Not fun to see the losses, but "sorry excuse?" The injuries happened. I don't think that falls in the excuse category, just unfortunate facts.

Let me remove 3 of the top 4 scorers of any team in the NBA, and let's see how close they hang in games. At some point, we get healthy. Then let's see what happens.

Unfortunate facts my butt. Excuses galore. We have had those three in the game and still blew games vs the Sixers and Bobcats at home. Two questions, once Indiana got a large lead did anyone realistically think they could hold it? Once it was a close game in the end did anyone think we had a decent chance? If you answered yes then you haven't seen Indiana this year. Pathetic once again.

BlueNGold

This may have not been the first Philly game, but it seemed similar. Although we were short important players, Granger was in the game while the Grizz were making what is becoming a familiar run. I seriously doubt TJ would have changed matters. The problem with this team is interior defense. I'm not yet sure that's appreciated fully by the coaching staff, but I think they were starting to get it when they had McRoberts in the last few games. Hopefully he gets well and returns soon.

Unfortunately, he rebounds and gets many fouls like Eddy Curry....another solid offensive Low-Post scorer....the problem is that he can't stay on the court long enough to make a huge difference. :(

He's a rookie so I'm hoping he can adjust accordingly. One thing though....I'm surprised that he played until the 5th foul.....JO'B probably wasn't paying attention for that 12 minute span.

The Ford excuse doesn't work. We knew he would be fragile when we got him, so this would happen. And now we bring up Dunleavy, who has never played a playoff game in his life as an excuse to why we can't beat Memphis. This isn't even a rebuilding team with guys like Rasho, Ford, Jack, Foster etc. This is just a bad team, plain and simple.

I know I am not making excuses. I can see why we lost. There's a difference between making excuses, and seeing what's happening.

But, if anyone thinks this team would perform exactly the same with a healthy Dun, Ford, Granger, and with more time together, then I would just have to disagree. And move on.

i'm pretty sure there are a lot of JOB lovers and %90 of this forum will disagree with me on this but please larry don't let this useless guy coach this team anymore. i don't care what happens. what can be worse than this? if this is the basketball bird wants to see this team play he should just find a guy from the street for this job. at least we wouldn't be paying JOB for his worthless coaching. anyone can do what he does right now. after all it isn't hard to tell the players just to run and shoot the ball whenever they see the rim,is it?
