The trade won't be official until then, but it can be announced on draft night.

McGrady - $14,487,000

Harrington - $6,250,000

Bender ------$6,390,000

Pollard ------$5,792,250

Total $18,432,250

You are sending Orlando almost 1.2 M more in salary than they can take & that doesn't count the draft pick.

On top of that they are getting 2 bench players & a cheerleader.

If Walsh/Bird were to pull this off they should be instantly enshirned in the Hall of Fame.

If they did that trade before Bender's BYC runs out I think it works. While he is BYC, if I understand correctly, he only counts for half of his salrary for trade purposes.

Exactly.

And Bender's BYC status runs out on the 1rst which is when trades can be offical.

They can be announced on draft day, as you might already know.

what does BYC stand for?

what does BYC stand for?

Base year compensation.

Rommie's correct. My mistake.

Players are limited to the percentage raise that they can get from one year to the next, so the entire multi-year contract is more or less determined by the BYC, particularly for max. players.

I had to look up the last word.

I knew it started with a C though. :D

The trade does not work.

The Magic would be getting back roughly 18.4 M for McGrady's 14.4

The salaries need to be within 15% + $100K, this isn't even close.

The base year works against Indiana. We can only take back half of what Bender's contract is.

Harrington - $6,250,000

Bender ------$6,390,000 (half would be $3,195,000)

Pollard ------$5,792,250

Total $18,432,250 (Total Indiana can take back if Bender is BYC is $15,237,250)

That is do-able as far as the Pacers end of it goes but it won't work for the Magic.

Besides that I can't get over that Orlando would trade a top 5 player in the league for a very good 6th man, a wanna be & an almost has been.

I guess for the same reason we swaped Brad for the "almost has been".

Thursday may end the rumors, but I sure hope we hold on to Bender and/or Pollard.

1) If he stays, I see Bender becoming brilliant off the bench.
2) Pollard will rebound next year, no pun intended.

I think that deal's not good enough to get TMac. They could include Gooden, or we could try including Fred Jones and they can throw in Juwan Howard.
