It's being broadcast on a local Dallas station, so there's a slight chance it'll be streamed.

Less than a week until the regular season begins. Hallelujah.

You have to have some sort of connection from the cable source to the computer. Also, it needs to be hosted somewhere.

Ya, they really needed to adjust to him on offense. Even with baston at the 4 the mavs were having trouble close to the rim.

Roy was just having his way with the offensive boards and put backs. But, anything that looked like a set play with him receiving the ball looked quite forced.

Several things really stood out to me:

-Our one-on-one defense is much better now. It's like watching a different (I guess it is a different team).

-Granger made two or three tweaks to his game, which may considerably improve his numbers. Better sign that extension now before we really have to pay next year.

-Our new pick n roll strategy looks better than last year's.

-Roy had a few good preseason games, but looks like he isn't fully ready, as expected.

-TJ had a great game, but I noticed something I really did not want to. The team stops moving when he has the ball. This could become a big issue if it's not solved.

-Marquis looks happier.

Danny has definitely improved at getting to the line. Last year he got to the line less than 5 times per game. If he is going to break that 20 point barrier, which he should be able to, he's going to have to go to the line about 8 times/game, which he has in the preseason.

Alright, I'm just going to say it.

There was a time in the 4th quarter where the game was close and Rasho nailed three or so shots in a row and grabbed a couple of offensive rebounds. Now, at least offensively, wasn't that as good as we've gotten from JO in the past two years?

Quis

If Granger gets to the free throw line in the regular season, the way that he has in preseason, he's gonna go from a good scorer to a very good, borderline-great scorer. Something around 22-23 a night.

dohman

We all know Quis can play. He could be a 20 ppg scorer and I think everyone knows it. He is creative around the hoop and can get to the basket and the free throw line close to every time he touches the ball.

I do question his decesion making abilities and his health. Every time he would put 1 or 2 good games together last year he would be troubled by those knees and would cause him to miss a week then wouldnt play good coming back because he would be out of rhythm.

Or better? I watched that same sequence and thought, "I'm so glad he's got that shot, and not a JO falling-away jumper." I feel like Rasho is a steady hand at crunch time, and I hadn't felt like that about JO for some time.

JO brought other defensive skills, but I don't think we lost any ground offensively with Nesterovic...he shoots and passes well, he knows where he needs to be in the flow...some good knowledge there for Roy to pick up on, I think. Rasho's not going to be a primary offensive focus, so his numbers aren't going to be JO level, but I feel pretty comfortable with him on the floor.

And there's this....with other scorers available, I think I'd take 4 for 7 fgm/fga from Rasho, rather than JO's 5 for 12.

I do have to admit. When he took that base line jumper I was thinking what is he doing shooting that shot? Then they kept falling. I was very impressed getting to see him play tonight.

Did anyone else stand up to beat their chest and yell HIBBERT SLAM when he slammed it home in the 4th?

The conversation was about Ford's number's, not Daniels. And Daniel's not playing for a new contract, the Pacer's have a team option on him for next year.

As for the game, the Pacer's went 23 of 23 from the foul line, which is exceptional. I'd bet a pair of Count's shoes they finish in the top five as a team this year.

Danny didn't shoot well but he was 12 of 12 from the line for half his 24 points. He also had 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

Ford, as someone said was three rebounds and an assist shy of a triple double.

Daniels did very well too, 22 points, 9, rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Murphy had 9 points and 9 rebounds, and Hibbert went 8 and 8.

The Pacers out rebounded Dallas 56 to 50. Rebounds looks like a strength this year. They out rebounded everyone but Chicago and San Antonio and sometimes it wasn't even close.

We have all seen players "play for a contract", get the contract, and then do nothing. I just don't want to see Bird get lulled into picking up Daniels last year of his contract. The good thing about it is if Daniels has a good year, and the Pacers pick up the last year it becomes a true expiring contract. That way if the he reverts back to form and has a poor 2009-2010 season the Pacers aren't stuck with a contract for 3-4 more years.

Then there is the issue if he has a good year and the Pacers pick up the option they lose 6.8 mil to use to sign other players. Which is more important, him as a player for next season or having the 6.8 mil to use?

Another interesting scenario is basically the same with Rasho. What if he has a good year and fits in well with what the team is doing? Do you sign him or let him go? Don't say sign him cheap, b/c that won't happen.

Put it this way, if we're going to have to pay Rasho over $8 million per season to resign him... NO! Clear and simple. Theres no way Rasho is worth $8million. We could sign someone else with that kind of money.

Maxiell could be an option that the Pacers can look for. Hes younger and will come cheaper

I always cringe when I see people make statements like these. This isn't the first time I've seen somebody say, matter-of-factly, that so-and-so could be a 20 ppg scorer, despite the fact that there was absolutely no evidence to support such a conclusion. It grossly underestimates how difficult it is to average that many points per game.

Last season, 31 players averaged 20 or more ppg. That represents a 5-year high, despite only being 6.8% of the players who played. Over the past 5 seasons, there have been 2273 "player seasons", but only 132 "player seasons" with 20 or more ppg, or 5.8%.

If you further expand to include all players who averaged 15 ppg or more, you still only end up with 64 players (14.2%) last year, and 323 (14.2%) over the past five years.

Marquis Daniels, the player in question, has never averaged more than 10.7 ppg in his career. More to the point, his best "per 36 minutes" scoring was only 16.5. While Daniels is certainly able to score 20 points on occasion, and may still have some 30 point games in him, there is absolutely no reason to believe that he should be considered among the top 6 or 7% of the scorers in the league.

The conversation was about Ford's number's, not Daniels. And Daniel's not playing for a new contract, the Pacer's have a team option on him for next year.

Well what I meant to say was that if Daniels continued to play the way he did last season, the Pacers arent going to pick up his contract. He technically he is playing for his contract because the team wouldnt pick it up

MT's hit it here, but basically there is incentive for Quis to play well because there's no realistic way for him to believe somebody will offer him a contract approaching the $7+mm he would be owed if the Pacers picked up his option.

As for the game, the Pacer's went 23 of 23 from the foul line, which is exceptional. I'd bet a pair of Count's shoes they finish in the top five as a team this year.

Well, I don't really have that many shoes (?), and I'm not sure that's a good bet.

The Pacers were 12th last season at about .768. They have some very good FT shooters who should get volume in the form of Danny Granger (career .821), TJ Ford (career .808), and Jarrett Jack (career .853). However, the team as a whole was spotty during the preseason, shooting only .746. (In fact, if you remove the 23/23 performance you're lauding here, they drop to .718 in the first 7 games.)

The good news is that the guys I mentioned above (DG, TJ, JJ) shot .861 while taking about 52% of the attempts. Retaining ownership of my shoes, however, will hinge on the turnaround of our rookies, Roy & Brandon. Brandon was a disappointing 6 of 10, costing us a little more than .006 in FT%. Roy (God love him), was an atrocious 14 of 29 (.483), costing over .035 in team %.

For the Pacers to get up into the .790 range (which would probably be necessary to get top 5), Brandon would need to shoot closer to 80%, while Roy needs to get to 70% or above. Also, Jeff Foster would probably need to get to 60% vs. the 47% he shot this preseason.
