Since it appears there are many who frequent this forum who are into
counting things, thought I would mention having listened to Mark Boyle's
latest Podcast (10/16/08).

It is an interview with Rick Carlisle, and is about 5 minutes long.

I had to go back and listen to it a second time, but during this somewhat
short interview, was able to count Rick Carlisle saying "you know" between
sentences 29 times!

I had a jr. high teacher that would interject the terms 'people' and 'there.' An example would be "Today we're going to discuss the Civil War, there." Sometimes he would connect them and say 'people there.'

He was a horrible lecturer, and had a monotone voice that made paying attention nearly impossible. Anyways, to make a long story short, we would count the number of times he would say 'there,' and it had to be used incorrectly so in context didn't count. For a fifty minute class period I had him at 128 on day.

I love to just observe/listen to people. You never really notice it, unless it's really bad, but people really do say 'uh' and 'like' frequently.

It's even worse for public speaking. Our communications prof would go nuts if we did it while giving a speech.
