Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson will be joining ESPN as a studio analyst for the network's NBA coverage, according to a report in the Sports Business Daily, a sister publication of Los Angeles Business.

Johnson will be introduced on a conference call today.

According to the report, Johnson will make his debut with the net on ABC’s “GMC NBA Countdown” before a Christmas Day tripleheader. Johnson had previously served as an analyst on TNT.

Johnson played for the Lakers from 1979-1991, and part of the 1995-96 season. He also served briefly as Lakers coach during the 1993-94 NBA season.

ESPN and ABC are owned by the Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).

Seems like a good thing for ABC. Magic is pretty good in the studio - horrible at doing the games though

I wonder why he left TNT.

I wonder why he left TNT.

Charles Barkley ate his cheeseburger when he wasn't looking.

In my opinion, Magic is terrible in the studio, and even worse on commentary. I guess there is one advantage to not having many/any nationally televised games.
