Just going on stats, there are some interesting things to note from the first games.

Detroit v. Miami

Amir Johnson got 0 blocks and 5 fouls in 18 minutes. Rodney Stuckey scores 23 points and adds 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

After watching Wade during the Olympics, I was all set for Miami to be good this year. Then they trot out a starting lineup that features Chris Quinn, Y. Diawara, and Mark Blount. You can't tell me that a team with only 2 legitimate rotation players in their lineup is really going to bring Beasley off the bench. Beasley put up a decent line off the bench scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 boards in 20 minutes, though his +/- was -10. Daequan Cook was bad (4-15).

New Orleans v. Golden State

Hilton Armstrong had a good game filling in for Tyson Chandler who rolled his ankle. 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in 23 minutes. His +/- was a ridiculous +25. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Julian Wright this season. He's going to wind up taking minutes away from either Peja or MoPete. He had a strong game with 8 pts, 5 rebs, 2 asts, and 3 stls in 25 minutes.

C.J. Watson started over Marcus Williams at PG. Turiaf (7 assists?), Belinelli, Anthony Randolph (6 pts, 6 rebs in 18 min)and Azubuike played well off the bench. How does Brandan Wright only get 8 minutes in a preseason game?

Did anybody actually get to watch these games?

Pistons-Heat wasn't on TV in either region.

Listening to the radio feed though, Amir really struggled with his timing, which is something I'd expect from someone that never started before.

Stuckey was dominant against everyone that guarded him, but he was being guarded by Marcus Banks and Mario Chalmers.

First preseason game. Neither is a big deal.

The only thing I took away from last night was Walter Hermann, who looks like he will be moved to SF this year to get playing time. Brilliant decision.

I always wondered why they never used him last year. He's not a great player, but he's certainly got a place in a 9-10 man rotation. He had some pretty good games for the Bobcats before the trade if I remember correctly.

I was practically driving the Stuckey bandwagon during the draft.

Heck, I still probably love the kid as much as your average Piston fan does.

Btw, until we get a random thoughts thread...here's this nugget from Bill Simmons from his latest mailbag...he lists the world's greatest sports-related crimes. Number one is Kerrigan/Harding but just a bit further down on the list...

Dick Bavetta's call on Larry Johnson's four-point play (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gex2CpfWkwg) to beat Indiana in Game 3 of the '99 playoffs.

This guy will probably be in the slam dunk contest if he makes Bostons roster. This is Boston vs Philly from a couple nights ago. Bill Walker with the facial on Theo Ratliff. I am talking MONSTER dunk.

I was pulling for us to go after Walker in this year's draft, and it's unfortunate that all it took was some cash for Boston to pick up him from the Wizards in the 2nd round. The Pacers should have made a move themselves, imo.

Here's the same Bill Walker. Dude seems like a punk and I'm glad we didn't make a move for him. He got in a fight with T-Mac here, and even Yao! I mean, Yao Ming ... probably the chillest dude in the NBA. Artest did a good job of not getting involved. He shoved LeBron a couple days ago also. And there were reports out of Boston that he got in a fight with KG during practice. I'd put money on him getting suspended at least once this season for starting something.

Dick Bevetta DID NOT MAKE THAT CALL. Jess Kersey did and that was the last time he worked a conference finals or NBA finals game. He was duly punished

I didn't see that earlier. Talk about a sense of entitlement.... get his scrub *** out of the league now before he does something to tarnish the NBA's improving image...
