Is it possible that some of the guys in this draft don't have access to this part of the forum?

Also, you can confirm me on Gilbert Arenas. That's right folks, Gilbert Arenas.

Jose Slaughter
09-16-2008, 06:54 PM

Darn right I do.

Let's Go JayRedd

The Mount Vesuvius Fighting Velvi select Tough Juice (aka Caron Butler).

Jose Slaughter
09-17-2008, 09:43 AM
yes!

Thank you

I got Michael Beasley

Bulldog, you up dude

JayRedd
09-17-2008, 11:22 AM
I was down to him, Tough Juice and two other guys to lesser degrees.

Not thrilled with Caron, but I like him a lot in real life (much more than this fantasy system for sure) and couldn't pull the trigger on a complete unproven who certainly won't be particularly helpful in Year 1 for sure.

Figured I'd go half safe instead of boom/bust in Round 2, especially since my cornerstone, Al Jeff, isn't a guarenteed leadpipe lock himself.

bulldog
09-17-2008, 01:01 PM
Screw it, I'll take Pau Gasol. Looks like I'll have to mess with my Andrew Bynum voodoo doll again.

Haggard
09-17-2008, 10:05 PM
The Indricity Haggards select..... Paul Pierce

Jose Slaughter
09-18-2008, 03:14 AM
Thanks for your help with the list guys.

The two that didn't send me a PMN have not been on since yesterday afternoon.

My time is limited during the day but once Avoiding the Clowns announces pick #34, I'll post what picks I have as soon as I can.

I hope you guys in the mid to late 40 range are prepared, you'll be picking sometime this afternoon.

avoidingtheclowns

Aesop Rock on takes Rudy Gay

Jose Slaughter
09-18-2008, 03:03 PM
This is fun!

Skaut_Ech
09-18-2008, 03:21 PM
This is fun!

Man, it was really close. Do I watch paint dry, or you guys draft?

I decided the paint would be faster.

I figured a keeper league, you're drafting the foundation of your team for years to come.....I thought the first two rounds would fly by.

Jose Slaughter
09-18-2008, 03:49 PM
I was hoping to hear from you Scott.

I had a feeling there would be little bumps like this one. With half the league being first year players, this stuff is bound to happen.

Growing Pains, with the highlight on Pains!

I might have to go searching for replacements. I'm sure that sound I hear is the vets gnawing their teeth.

panhandles
09-18-2008, 04:14 PM
The draft is always my favorite part of any fantasy squad. The waiting is really bringing me down. At this rate I might actually get some work done today.

LoneGranger33
09-18-2008, 05:59 PM
I think we should just assign players randomly after 6 hours absence. And when I say randomly, I mean from the bottom of the 12th man pool. Except Diener.

Jose Slaughter
09-18-2008, 06:33 PM
I'm not overly fond of changing rules in the middle of the game.

I have no problem with dropping guys that don't don't seem interested in playing.

Not logging on to Pacers Digest during our draft qualifies as not showing an interest.

Not making your picks on a timely basis qualifies as a lack of interest.

Not sending me, or anyone for that matter, a list of players to draft for you, shows a lack of interest.

There might be a reason why Intridcold hasn't been on the site for 29 hours & 12 minutes as of now, I don't know.

We'll find out & then take it from there.

Jose Slaughter
09-18-2008, 07:04 PM
I've added some info to the draft board.

To the right of the selections I've added the length of time it took for that selection to be made.

I doubt I'll continue this for the entire draft but I'd like to see how it plays out for at least a couple rounds.

The * means that I was given the pick via a PM & I posted the selection rather than the team owner.

While we're twiddling our thumbs:
LG - what's with the team name Mostar? That doesn't refer to the Bosnian city, does it?

LoneGranger33
09-18-2008, 08:29 PM
Stanko's birth city of course.

Disclaimer: I probably won't draft him till next year.

JayRedd
09-18-2008, 08:29 PM
Apologies on the 8:11 hour lag, gents.

In fairness, I was in sleepytime. This, however, should not be confused with LG33's 0:22 lag, which was due to him being in Naptime.

LoneGranger33
09-18-2008, 08:30 PM
Gross, but totally accurate.

bulldog
09-18-2008, 08:33 PM
Oh, that makes sense. I was born in that part of the world, and I forgot we have a bosnian connection.

LoneGranger33
09-18-2008, 08:35 PM
Oh cool, whereabouts? And how did you end up in ****** Connecticut?

JayRedd
09-18-2008, 08:37 PM
It's pronounced "New Haven."

LoneGranger33

Wow, we got a lot of MD people here.

As a city, smartass. ;) Good food, cheap rent and living, lots of nice, new, renovated housing. Crimes still a problem, but we're on track for lowest homicide rate since 1985 (yea, I know, it shows how bad the situation is that I even have to say that). You hear about all the bad stuff that happens here, but no one ever says anything bad about a city like Minneapolis, which has more violent crime per capita. Anyway, my point is it's not nearly as bad as the Wire makes it out to be, unless you happen to be poor, at which point the US in general is not a great place to be.

random fact about the Wire: i used to work with the guy who david simon based marimow on (bill marimow now EinC at Philly Inq.) all of my interactions with him (while he was our VP of News and then Ombudsman) were quite pleasant but simon clearly hates the dude.

That is correct, we're using a 24 draft clock.

But I was really hoping, & expressed several times that I didn't think anyone would come close to using that much time. I never thought that we would have a handful of people using more than 10 or 12 hours. We are coming up on day 6 of the draft & have almost completed 2 rounds. Two rounds per week means we'll have a 6 week draft. My old 24 team league completed its draft in 11 days... & some of them *****ed about the draft moving too slow.

I've repeatedly ask that you know when you are drafting & if you can't make it on line around that time to send me a list so I can post your selection for you. I've also expressed how important daily participation is.

As you can see by the draft board just about everyone that picks in front of me has sent me a list. These guys are prepared & I don't think it fair to them that we have to set around & wait for hours on a couple guys to make their picks.

I fully understand that people have lives, family & work responsibilities, I do as well.

Josh Howard's had a lot of input into who to pick next. Based on his recommendation, The Mesilla Gargoyles select Zach Randolph.

One of the most persuasive arguments made by Josh, and later confirmed by Zach, is they're planning on opening a new business which will benefit the team.

They're creating J-Z Imports

Apparently they have a specialty grower in Mexico who produces an exclusive, highly sought-after Oregano - must be organic or something. Why, this stuff is so expensive they price it by the ounce!

In return for using the team buses and planes to help transport it, as well as storage at the training facility, the team will get 10% of all gross income. Plus Josh has said he'll provide a free supply to all team members. Josh says - and this is a direct quote, "This'll make everyone happy."

They also have a contact who produces a very exclusive confectionary sugar product which they may expand into in the near future.

Who says young people have no initiative these days? Interestingly, Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur have both contacted me and practically begged me to draft them. Guess they have the entrepreneurial spirit too.

Man I hate this pick - has Isiah Rider written all over it. Couldn't do much else based on the fantasy numbers though. Ugh. Maybe I can have the All-Indicted Team.

Further centers and center-forwards get extra bonus points.

For example... T-Mac would be a lot lower then on most peoples lists, same with Garnett and say Ben Wallace (though I might also skip him IF I think I could get away with it, because of other reasons).

Put me on the side of the latter. Gordon's absolute ceiling is 20 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg and even that isn't getting you huge FPPM nor is it happening until at least 2011. And Bayless can't possibly be getting any shots on that Portland team.

When we're done with the draft, we should do two polls:
1) What's the best team this year?
2) What team is best set for the future?

Get some powerrankings going, maybe even update them once a month. It'd be fun if it was like college, where you were playing the #1 team that week (I guess you can just look at standings, but teams get better or worse as the season goes).

Glad to hear. Given his good career stats plus being handed the Pacers starting PG spot without much competition, I just figured a Pacers Digest draft would overrate him if anything...Not let a 1.1 FPPM guy slip to pick 90. I almost took him over Biedrins but gave AB the edge due to the whole not having a congenital spine disorder factor.

I thought the same thing as I really wanted another guy too and was trying to talk myself into the fact that he might be entirely overlooked for a while...but I couldn't pass up on a 22-year-old who might already be the best rebounding point guard in the NBA and also has the ability to maybe lead the League in steals one day (was 8th this year...though CP3 would probably have to die in a train wreck first).

It'll be tough to pull off on this current Big Three incarnation, but I can easilly see him putting up a line of 16 ppg, 8 apg, 6 rpg and 2 spg within five years.

He was a gamble and so is this one. I have no idea if I'm happy you took him or not since I had a long debate on how much I wanted him. One less second-guessing moment I'll have I suppose.

The draft clock is still 24 hours.

Bloomington had been on the clock since Indianapolis selected at 6:18 on Monday night.

Adam1987's profile shows that he was last active on Pacers Digest at 2:03 this morning.

This shows that he was on PD without making a pick, checking the draft board or sending me a list.

I informed him that if I didn't have a list prior to his next pick he would be replaced.

Millsap's a beast. That's a heluva pick. He won't be behind one of the best PFs in the League his whole career. He's a 30 mpg player in this League and one of it's best rebounders. As you say, you'll need some depth this season, but the kid is 23 and will be putting up 1.0 FPPM until he's 35.

I was either taking him or Rondo at 91, but opted for Rajon since my other guards are Nash, who only has about 3 years left, and TJ, who could end up dying on the court.

If necessary, and I haven't checked on this because I can't stay here much longer, I'll take Shaq to move the draft along. Not happy about it, but I'm willing to make a sacrifice for the sake of moving this thing forward.
