Ok... I say it was a microburst that caused it. And the paper sure chose one of the less dramatic looking 'circles' to run as the photo. The dispatcher's description is more accurate than what the photo shows.

BEDFORD — A rare and “pretty” sight was on display for people gathered in a Bedford cornfield last night, said Bedford Police Department dispatcher Mark Duncan.

“It’s the weirdest looking thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said of about a dozen circles and other, stranger shapes created by flattened corn. About two acres of 8-foot high corn — hundreds of dollars’ worth — are flattened to the ground “as tight as can be,” with curved ends that make the circles resemble bowls, Duncan said.

“I don’t think it was a person who did this,” he said. The largest circle is at least the length of a football field, he added.

The first call about the strange crop circles, or weather circles as Duncan called them, came in to dispatch Friday afternoon. He believes the crop shapes are weather-related and hopes to call in someone from the weather service to see the cornfield, which is on Sandpit Road just off Mitchell Road. The area got rain, he said, but not severe weather.

“We’ve had lots of traffic problems,” Duncan said about 9 p.m. Friday, with all the curious people stopping to see the flattened corn, which is on a privately owned farm.

Note: Near my home, I will try to get some better pictures. I was told this happened in the middle of the day. I have a friend that works for the county highway dept and he said they were not there in the morning when he went to work. He said he would have noticed it. 8 foot tall corn just went flat.

Wind?

Looks like a downburst to me. Spring was so wet that the corn never developed much of a root system and it doesn't take much to knock it down - I've seen corn laying down with 25 mph winds.

Yep, but another type of "wind". Spicoli has been out scouting his hunting grounds for deer and there have been numerous reports as to what his "wind" can do to crops.

Yeah but then it would be all dead & shriveled.

I drove down there (3 miles from my house), these are not circles like the crop circles we know of. This was more of a joke. 1. It was not 8ft tall corn (like the article stated) it was wheat. 2. There were no patterns, it was random chaos Yet there were 20 or so cars pulled off along the road snapping pictures. I should mention that the road beside these randomly chaotic patterns sits up higher than the fields, to where you look down on the fields. What a waste of time...

Allright, let's meet at Greccos and figure out who is responsible for this.

This is bigfoot mating season.

They have some crazy rituals I've heard.

I did. I went on a spending spree and bought a new John Deere lawn tractor and raised the blade on it. Those punks stole my trash cans out behind my house and needed to pay!

Bedford is so backwards. The mayor has decided to place a $13/month fee on trash pickup when we are already paying for it in our property taxes. It is no surprise that we are getting crop circles.

Someone did steal my trash cans last week, though. I don't understand why anyone would want old trash cans either.

Nothing much happens in Bedford, I for one am not that interested in some lame excuse to stir up the town, either. I am not surprised that there were people trying to get photos of something some rednecks done in their four wheel drive with a volunteer firefighter light on the top of their truck.

It's a shame that Wal-Mart is out of Busch Light with the camoflage cans.

I've heard those bigfoot starting waiving their privateselves around in mating season like you wouldn't believe.

Nocking down crops, swinging into fence posts and all sorts of nonsense.

It's no wonder they scream the night away.

What???? I come home to news like this!? Do you think Martinsville still has any?

I missed the rest of the news on the 'circles', it was manmade afterall? I assumed it was weather related.

I have no clue, but the town is going crazy over this.

I have news, some guy shot himself a few houses down from me last night.

I know I may sound crazy, but my g/f and I were driving home from work the other night (muncie area) and I looked up at the sky and could've swore I saw a UFO just take off!! It wasn't an airplane, and it was not a shooting star.

It was something I had never seen before. I looked to my g/f with this strange look, and she was like what... did you see that UFO?

I was like.. uhh yeah.. looked that way
