View Full Version : Pacers Digest Mock Draft

With the first pick in the mock Draft, the Orlando Magic select....

Emeka Okafor

Here at Orlando we took a couple of long looks at Dwight Howard and Shaun Livingston, but the full-court press is on to keep McGrady and Okafor is the guy that can step in the soonest and help the team. We really need an inside presence and Okafor is more imposing than Howard.

To put it bluntly, this was the safest pick. Emeka has the skillset and character to be successful even if he does not have the highest potential.

Now if we can only find a way to keep McGrady. Next up: The Clippers (MagicRat)

1. Orlando - Emeka Okafor

Since you can't do anything about who we pick [ :P ], I've got no compunction in telling you we're looking at a varied selection of prospects, not the least of which are Uros Slokar from Slovenia, and Jaber Rouzbahani from Iran.

"With the 3rd pick in the 2004 NBA draft, the Chicago Steers.... *crowd murmurs over this blunder by Stern* .... select Shaun Livingston, guard from Peoria Central high school. Stuart Scott: "Booya, and welcome back to ESPN's live coverage of the 2004 Pacers Digest Mock Draft. Booya. David Aldridge has a report from Charlotte. Booya DA."

David Aldridge: "Uh, whatever Stuart. Anyway, I'm here at Charlotte's draft headquarters. Thanks to the Collisium hosting the rodeo this week, the Bobcats have been working out of the former headquarters of John Edwards presidental campaign. The good news is Bernie Bickerstaff FINALLY showed up. He was here when the draft started, but he got so damned bored waiting for Magi...,er, I mean, Elgin Baylor to make a pick, he just decided to go next door to the local bar. The bad news is, he's pretty sloshed.

Stuart Scott (background): "Booya, booya, booya! BOOOOya..."

DA: "Anyway, since there's not an actual front door to this establishment, just a plastic sheet, I've been able to hear what's going on. I can tell you, when Bernie showed up, he was told the Bobcats were on the clock. He immediately yelled out "SHAUN LIVINGSTON!!!!" When his aide informed him that Livingston had been taken by the Bulls, Bernie literally punched his aide in the face, and ever since he's been stumbling around the room questioning the sexual practices of Jerry Krause's mother. Guess he forgot Jim Paxson is running things up there now."

"Wait a second, they just got a call?..." [muttering in the background] "Sounds like it might be Billy King..."[incoherant babbling] "Um, Bernie just told King he'd trade them the 4th pick for Julius Erving!" [wild screaming, followed by someone crying] "Yes, another aide just told Bickerstaff Dr. J's retired, and Bernie took off his shoe and started beating the poor man with it. Oh, the humanity of it all." [scuffle, followed by mournful moaning] "Alright, the assistant coaches have subdued Bickerstaff, and head assistant Sam Mitchell has taken control of the situation." [muttering] "Okay, Charlotte's trading the pick to the 76ers! Sounds like it's for Snow and Korver!"

The Philadelphia 76ers trade:
PG Eric Snow
SG Kyle Korver

The Charlotte Bobcats trade:
The #4 overall pick (1st round)

Okay, first question, what are the rules to this thing?

It seems as though we're trying to put together a realistic simulation of what the draft may be. So I guess the normal NBA "rules" apply. That, and common sense.

So I can trade my players?

Like, do I have to PM the other team and they have to agree or can I just take their pick?

MSA2CF

And what's that supposed to mean? :P

Pig Nash

The Wizards trade their #5 pick for all of Boston's first round picks.

Snickers
06-16-2004, 11:54 AM
If Piggie hasn't picked by 11am Indiana time, then I say let's put MagicRat on the clock. Minnesota Viking rules would apply. Piggie could jump in and make a pick on any availible player at any time. We can't have this take 8,000,000 years to finish, since the draft is in 8 days. If you're going to sleep and afraid your pick might come up, send in your selection to Hicks, since he's not involved in the draft. I'm sure he would be willing to post someone's pick if their turn came up and they had told him who they wanted.

Yeah, if your pick is up soon and you have to go to sleep, or won't be on for a while, you can make a brief list of players you want.

When your pick comes up, the first guy on that list will go to you, if he's gone then the next in line will. That's how it's done in real fantasy leagues, and if you know you won't be around for a while, it may be a good idea.

MSA2CF, since you're the Knicks, you may want to consider taking some kid nobody'e ever heard of who'll never get on the court. And make sure to sign him to a 7 year, $50 million contract. :P

I'll give you any two players on my team [hell, take 'em all!] for the first two girls in your av. Right after the sad face.

Yah, it was pretty stupid. But not so dumb that it threw the whole thing loopy.

Hey now! I contend there are 3, and only 3, franchise players in this draft, Okafor, Howard, and (in a few years) Livingston. With those guys gone, that draft pick was crap. So I took the deal (what can I say, I was a huge Snow-Respert fan 10 years ago.)

Plus, who says I'm done with my moves. I've got conceivably every player on the expansion list to trade for picks.

Snow's contract is just so incredibly bad, it makes any move involving him AND a salary-cap-reduced expansion team a little too loopy to believe. :P

A 6-year deal based starting off at mid-level ain't bad. It doesn't start getting big until after they've got their full cap, and I tell you what, Snow's a player. He's THE Larry Brown point guard, which is the highest compliment you can give a playmaker, IMO.

Btw, props on that Atlanta deal.

Is there a 3rd team involved?

Philadelphia trades: C Samuel Dalembert (8.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 0.3 apg in 26.8 minutes)
Philadelphia receives: SG Ray Allen (23.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.8 apg in 38.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +15.0 ppg, -2.5 rpg, and +4.5 apg.

Seattle trades: SG Ray Allen (23.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.8 apg in 38.4 minutes)
Seattle receives: C Samuel Dalembert (8.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 0.3 apg in 82 games)
Change in team outlook: -15.0 ppg, +2.5 rpg, and -4.5 apg.

TRADE DECLINED

Due to Seattle being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Seattle had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here. This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I have a trade to announce

the toronto raptors trade:

donyell marshall, jalen rose, and milt palacio

to the houston rockets for:

kelvin cato, cuttino mobley

as a result of the traded salaries, the raptors receive a traded player exception worth $6.99 million.

and now for the 8th pick....

well we discussed before needing taller wing players on the rockets. jalen has 4 inches on cat. he can also play some point to help steve out.

marshall made it ok to take on jalens contract that BTW runs out when yao becomes a FA ;)

donyell is the perfect fit at pf for the rockets. he plays D, rebounds, even gets you a block and a half (equal to cato). the kicker is he is a good 3pt shooter witch will keep opponents from double teaming yao with the 5 and 4.

With the 8th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors choose Luke Jackson, Oregon, SG, 6-7, 212.

Strengths: Very consistent long-range shot. Excellent free throw shooter, can post up. A great passer with quick feet. Can hit the mid-range jumper, an ability missing from the NBA at this point.

Weaknesses: Defense. Definitely not ready to contend for DPOY but has improved drastically over last year in every category including this one.

Best available shooter at this point.

Kobe Bryant. They need to dump Jahidi White to afford him, and that pick is the only incentive they have to offer anyone to take White off their hands. They can only give him to a team below the cap, so they don't have to take back salary. This is a very likely scenario for the expansion draft, but we're pretending it happens here. And that old fart Geezer played hard ball so I gave him a future pick.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yeah and a grevience has been filed with the league office. My understanding was there was the #34 pick this year to me also  .

I nearly took the original proposal of #34 only, just to clear the cap space for the run at Kobe. Then I thought of the PR hit I'd take in Phoenix...especially if Mr. Bryant decides to go elsewhere (say Levenworth). I wanted even more but had a boss watching over my shoulder so took the quick route out. (we need a chicken smilie here)

Orlando- Emeka Okafur

Atlanta- Dwight Howard and Luol Deng

Chicago- Shaun Livingston

Philadelphia- Andre Iguodala, Josh Childress, Rafael Araujo

Boston- Pavel Podkolzine

LAC- Devin Harris

Toronto- Luke Jackson

Cleveland- JR Smith

Golden State- Josh Smith

I have a trade to announce. :uhoh:

The San Antonio Spurs have traded Tim Duncan and the 28th pick in the 2004 Draft to the Indiana Pacers for Scot Pollard. Because he has cool hair.

When reached for comment, Spurs GM Snickers said, "Well actually, the deal with Indiana fell through. Donnie said he didn't want to make a deal for the sake of making a deal, and also something about salaries matching up. I dunno, that stuff is over my head. I like tacos."

He expressed his uncertainty as to whether he'd prefer to keep the 28th selection or trade it for expiring contracts or veteran help. "I thought long and hard.... heh, long and hard.... um, about taking Pavel Podiatry or whatever with the 28th pick." Snickers spoke about the success foreign players has brought to teams like Dallas and Sacramento, and the value of having very large men on your team. "We wanted somebody whose number would be hanging from the rafters someday. Like Wilt Chamberlain or Gheorge Muresan. Then we realised Pavel has been off the board since #5.... yeah, needless to say, I broke my magic 8 ball."

"So in lieu of a big European guy, we're trading our pick for a guy with a foreign-sounding name. Next best thing, eh?"

After a long and unintelligible rant about Steve Kerr, and something about pickles, Snickers finally revealed the details of the deal.

"Piatkowski is a funny name. #28 for Piatkowski and #55. Piatkowski. Piatkowski Piatkoski Piatkowski. Hahahahahahaha!!!!" :happydance:

The Spurs trade #28 to the Rockets for Eric Piatkowski and #55

from draftcity:

Sasha is an intriguing prospect with his height and abilities. Not being a pure point can be a problem, but not having pure playmaking skills hasn't stopped a lot of players from getting the job done in the NBA, and I've got the feeling Vujacic will find his place, as he has the talent and plays with a lot of heart.

Best Case Scenario: Marko Jaric, Brent Barry
Worst Case Scenario: Jeryl Sasser, Antonio Daniels

You guys do realize that Minnesota isn't in the first round, and that it ends with the Pacers at #29, right?

That's my fault Hicks.

When I copied and pasted the second round, it was 31 through 60, so instead of re-numbering the second round, I just put Indiana at #30 and skipped #29.

I'm probably splitting hairs, but I think that technically, the Pacers have the #30 pick (and the 29th pick is simply forfeited)
