They're FINALLY allowing people to do voice chat outside of a game with more than 2 people at a time! Up to EIGHT in fact!

Another big feature that's awesome for me, is that now people with Netflix subscriptions can watch streaming video rentals (which normally you do on your PC using IE) on your TV via the 360!

What's more, these two features I'm hyped about can apparently COMBINE. You can watch a streaming video with up to 7 of your friends while in a voice chat! The only question mark I have on this, is whether or not all people in the party have to have a Netflix subscription are not. If they do, it's a cool feature. If they don't, it's an amazing feature.

This article only hints at the Netflix part, but I was reading another earlier that went into further detail.

They've also revolutionized the world of gaming with their unique avatar system! I can't believe they came up with that all by themselves!

From what I watched last night, I'm not even sure you have to hae a net flix subscription, just the xbox live subscription. But I may have misunderstood.

You will definitely need a Netflix subscription to watch streaming videos.

This Netflix thing is borderline revolutionary.

Some good stuff, but I think the avatar thing might be a little or a lot on the feminine side. (Trying to be PC)

Not really.

It's more like the Mee's on the Wii, actually.

Gotcha. When it comes to things like this, I kinda mess up the acronyms.

Anyway, I am okay with the avatar system being a little animated. That is the point here. A characturic representation of us. It doesn't have to be real, there is no point.

Yes, we heard the rumors and they turned out to be true. At Microsoft's E3 keynote, they finally revealed the new dashboard, complete with 3D slides and Avatars. John Schappert, head of Live services and software, told the audience: "The new look and feel is more fun, more social, and simpler to use. You'll have a Gamercard, but there's also something new... it'll be more personal with avatars. Express your personality and style, share it with your community and friends. ... pants, shirts, hats... everything you need, it's all here."

"Create, share, and have fun with all of your friends... but avatars are just the beginning. The new Xbox is tailored for the living room. Here we are at the community channel -- instead of a list of friends, you actually see them. You can chat with or send messages to your friends, but there's something new: create a Live party, private groups of up to 8 people, always connected and chatting as a party."

The Mii-like Avatars are just the beginning, he says. The new Dashboard adds a community channel, which allows you to send messages to friends or invite them to a "live party." With this upcoming update, Xbox 360 becomes an even more social experience.

I'm pretty excited about the Netflix thing. I can't wait to see how it works and what kind of limitations if any it has. If you can pay one price and watch basicaly ANY movie you want at ANY time, I'm definitley getting Netflix. Is there anyplace that has more information about this aspect of the new features?

I use Netflix for blu-ray rentals, but have watched a few things via the streaming service. The quality is good via HDMI to my tv. There's a neat media center plug in you can use for Netflix here: http://www.anpark.com/index.php/2008/02/10/new-vista-media-center-plugin-mynetflix-beta/

You can't watch any movie, though. They say they have about 10,000 now. There are quite a few good things, but there's a lot of garbage, too.

Here are the Top 50 viewed instantly last week:

MR, with the exception of the TV shows that looks an awful lot like the movies that are available on Comcast On Demand. If they are not offering new releases streaming I'll take a pass and keep using Redbox, which I still insist is the best deal going in rental.

Fo sho.

I really like the current GUI for the Xbox 360, but a change wouldn't bother me. I like what I've seen so far.

Netflix, eh, I don't think I'll subscribe to it. I always get the 12+1 month card for Xbox Live, but I really don't want to pay for more things that would keep me from paying my bills. lol

You can also get a text message sent to you every Monday with a code for a free rental from Redbox. I do it, it's great.

Check out their website for more information.
