Slovenia had it's first game today vs Korea.

Nesterovic lead the team to a victory with 26 pts and 9 rbs in 32 min.

As some have stated, Nesterovic is a solid center who will be near a consistent double double. He's experienced and will help our team greatly.

And you can't be on the Slovenia team unless your name is 5+ letters long..

Thats why the Koreans lost.. They fell a letter short...

I expect 26 and 9 from him throughout the season now.

That was against the much more athletically superior Koreans. They are known for their basketball skills and defensive prowess. I expect him to really dominate the NBA nightly and score 52 and 18 due to the difference in skill levels.

Rasho had a nice game agianst Canada. 7-10 no 3's taken I could get used to those stats.

I really think our post game is going to be alot better than everyone around here thinks.

Rasho/Roy at Center and Murphy/Foster manning the PF duties are really going to impress everyone.

We may not have a superstar back there but we do have 4 solid Blue collar works manning the duties for next season.

I agree, its nothing flashy, but the toughness and Basketball IQ is way better, not just for the frontcourt, but the whole team.

I think Nesto, Foster, and Murphy are more than willing to give a hard foul. I think this group will be very scrappy/physical. That does my heart good.

I think this team will be much more equipped to compete mentally than any team since Reggie has been gone or maybe back to the finals team.

Not the talent, not nearly, but it will actually look like basketball maybe this year and not a YMCA pick up game.

And they won't get the respect from the officials because they're not big name players.

Seriously? That's your concern? The amount of respect they're (apparently, according to you) not going to get from the refs? They're long-established vets. They get as much respect as anybody else who doesn't get star treatment. Just because they aren't getting star calls doesn't mean they're getting hosed by the refs or are in any similar manner a weakness.

Speed
07-15-2008, 12:44 PM
Hibbert won't get respect, just based on being a rookie, but the others get as much of a benefit of doubt as any non star player cuz they are vets.

The problem with the frontcourt will all depend on expectations.

Murphy needs to not only hang around the perimeter on offense. Problem last year was if Foster wasn't in the game there wasn't a Pacers within 20 feet of the basket. Nesto will help with this.

Other problems. If Hibbert gets burn, he'll have to figure out how to guard the PnR. Guys like Murphy will kill guys like Hibbert. Good news is hopefully the Jason Collins of the world won't kill them anymore. True centers have really hurt the Pacers in recent history. Now the Pacers have 2 and Jeff Foster.

I like this rotation. Guys like Rasheed Wallace who can hit the 3 are still a problem, but they are for everyone. Personnally I'd rather have a 4/5 jacking up 3 than getting offensive rebounds and bunny lay ups.

Lastly, you can't expect any scoring from this group. Maybe Murphy, I guess, but I'd still rather see him as 10 and 10 versus 16 and 6.

If you can get 20 and 18 from the power forward spot, that is damn good. If you can get 14 and 14 from the center spot, I'd take that too.

Assuming you are getting consistent solid D, while not being out toughed or outworked. You know Jeff will play some good azz defense...

It leads to a greater questions, where do all the points come from because I don't think its here.

Wow, that's nice work. FIBA or not that's at least better quality than summer ball work. I've sort of overlooked his aspect other than contract and space filler, but it's sounding like he starts this year at center with Hibbert/Troy/Foster backing him up or working the PF.

This team is going to be SO different looking, it's going to take 10-15 games to really get a feel for what they are.

I think you are right, I think he starts at Center.

I also think they'll get better and better as the year goes on. The whole synergy thing Obie is talking about.

I don't see one ego that might get in the way, nor do I see a guy who won't know what his role is and he is capable to do it. (Shawne or Marquis maybe as the exception)

Again, this team has a chance to be a really smart team, when is the last time you could say that.

Now there are tons of potential weaknesses, but they'll be different, not above the shoulder weaknesses, so that might be refreshing.

I think a "consistent double-double" is expecting a bit much from Rasho, obviously a lot of that will depend on his playing time. What he'll do is climb all over the offensive boards for you guys and be constantly tipping balls out to your guards. He's very effective on the offensive glass, he had a much higher offensive rebound % than JO has had over the past 5 years.

I'm amazed at how much better he gets as he gets older, though: last year he played well for Slovenia at Eurobasket, and he came to Raptors' camp looking really good, and this year he's even better.

What you'll get from Rasho is a guy who talks all the time on defense, who can score in midrange and from the post (a little), get on the offensive boards, help out on the defensive glass and generally make your team better. He's the kind of guy whose contributions go generally un-noticed until the game is over and your team has a W on the stat sheet.

Tim Duncan said in this interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOnsZAcYHYQ), after being asked if he were surprised that Toronto didn't double-team him, "It was Rasho. Rasho's...awesome! I just got lucky, that's all it was."
