Tony Dungy comes into Tampa Bay, makes them a winner, and is canned. Jon Gruden swoops in and leads them to a championship the year after.

Rick Carlisle comes into Detroit, makes them a winner, and is canned. Larry Brown swoops in and leads them to a championship the year after.

.......and both of the canned coaches wind up in Indianapolis...... ;)

Then Dungy and Carlisle came to Indiana, and this season both made it to the round before the championship round, and lost to a tough defensive team. :hmm:

Let's just say you can chalk up yet another reason I hope Dungy and crew have a title next February. :D

Wouldn't that be wild if the Colts and the Pacers won the titles next season? Then there'd be no doubt we are the best sports city in America.

And how about Bill Davidson? He owns the WNBA champion Detroit Shock, the NHL champion Tampa Bay Lightning, and the soon-to-be NBA champion Detroit Pistons. That's a hell of a hat-trick. :o

And look at the year Tampa Bay had since winning it all. An omen for Detroit?

I was thinking the EXACT same thing this morning. It is amazing.

But we will both win next year.

After both groups had not been able to win in the first round, also.

I was just talking about this with my sister. Remember the stink everyone raised about New England's corners holding so much, that eventually the league said the refs would be more stringent in calling it next year. A "renewed emphasis" of what was already in the rulebook, IIRC. Hopefully there'll be some parallels there, as well. But I doubt it.

I just posted this same thing on another Pacers board earlier this morning. Pretty incredible similarities.

i would guess the pacers are the favorite to win it next year. detroit won't make any changes. what position can they improve on? plus they have great team chemistry, they wont want to disturb that by trading some of them.

now here come the pacers with the nba's best record, and a lot to offer in trade to get better. pick up a center and a backup PG and you guys are set.

i would target damon jones with some MLE money. he had the second best ast/to ratio in the league last year. he is aslo a nice 3pt shooter. then trade al and austin for a center (dampier, cato, kandi etc..).

I don't think anyone can say that until the some wheeling and dealing has taken place. In it's current state, this team will not be the favorite for next year's title. As you mentioned, Detroit will probably stand pat, though they might lose 'Sheed (I doubt it, he'd be insane to leave) or Memo (far more likely), but by keeping the same team, assuming they close out this series with the Lakers, I think they have to be regarded as the favorites no matter who does what this summer.
