All that for nothing. Minny's using a trade exception. Seems stupid of Philly to me, but if they get their guy, I guess they won't care.

The purpose of the trade is to make SalaryCap room to continue their huge $$$ push to try to sign Brand or Josh Smith ( as a fall back ).

Word is they want BOTH Brand and Smoove... So it's a good move in terms of gaining some flexibility cap-wise, although Carney made some legitimate strides last season. I guess we'll see - very soon - if it pays off.

Carney is superflous for them anyway with Iggy and Thaddeus.

I have no idea about how much SalaryCap space they have...but there is no way that they can make a run for both players. Both of them can easily combine to make $25mil in the 2008-2009 season.

If they get rid of Iggy via sign-and-trade, it's possible.

I have no clue why the Sixers would do that....trading Iggy would be stupid.

Phily gives up a SG who shoots 32% 3PT?

Didn't see that coming...

Phily can offer Brand about $15 mil per and 95 mill total. Very tought to turn that down, but I would in order to stay in LA and play with Baron... Winning is more fun and not sure Brand would be a good fit for the young Sixers. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3477424

They want Smith over Iggy... But they'll still be happy with Brand/Iggy. I'd expect them to try everything they can in pursuit of Smith.

They should have kept Thabo Sefolosha instead of trading him to Chicago for Carney. Carney will never be the player Thabo will become. JMOAA

let the record show... a cap number of about $2.8m (combined salary of carney and booth) is worth a future 1st. and booth has an expiring contract, so it's not like he's hard to move.

/rant on
now this is a good way to use a trade exception - absorb someone's unwanted contract and pick up a) a young player and b) a future draft pick to boot. boy, we really wasted that peja exception
/rant off

It's a REALLY good way to use free space under the cap... better than signing a FA, often. That's how Dumars started the Pistons rebuild.

76ers essentially traded Kyle Korver and Rodney Carney for Elton Brand. (I'm assuming the pick they got for trading Korver to Utah is the same pick they're giving to the TWolves)

That's a nice piece of GMing right there.

Shame they had to lose Korver, they could use some outside shooting right about now.

Still think I take comments like this seriously when they're thrown out after things are decided?
