View Full Version : July 1 and July 9
I would like to know why the NBA holds the draft, let teams trade players, and yet they cannot sign them till the July 9, And what has the July 1 have to do with anything. Guess I am stupid.

Contractual agreements from existing players.

The basic problem is the Orlando summer camp is too soon after the draft. They should move it back or the Pacers should join another camp that starts later. Or belong to two like some teams do.

I remember the commissioner comming out between pick and announcing "We have a trade" then would stiffly read the note.
Did the commissioner even come out once, or were all the deals under the same moritorium?
Maybe the draft needs to happen after all the BYC, Options, and league mandates are concluded...So the fans can enjoy the draft when their team makes a move. It's totally assanine that the Pacers couldn't announce their moves to a full house of fans because the NBA needs it's little time out.

agreed gnome, but when you get a lawyer in the room, you get a headache.
you get two and it's war.
three or more, FUBAR.
since the league and the agents have a bunch of lawyers, this last status applies.
