With the excitement and positive buzz heading into next season, along with a sense of a fresh start, a new beginning, I'm thinking now is the time to bring the FloJos back as our retro jersey for 2009. That would be fun to see.

It still feels a little premature to me. Let's get a real identity first.

I would wait until we've had a couple of winning seasons and use the flojos to boost an already existing buzz.

I agree.

But man, I can't wait to see those jerseys again someday. The flojos are by far the best Pacer jerseys. I really haven't liked either of the designs since.

The Pacers have been (relatively) successful in just about every year with the Flojos. So, yes a team has to be "worthy" to wear them IMHO, I don't want the 'jos desecrated.

You're right, just about every year. But I would think that this year is better than any to rekindle anything that resembles winning in the sense of motivation. Both for the players and the fans.

No, hold off on the Flo Jo's. Save the best for a really good team.

I don't get why teams try to use new retros every season. Why not get full use out of them and use them for two or three seasons? Would anyone seriously object to that?

I mean the Pacers are going to run out of retros to use pretty soon. We've got maybe one more design from the '70s I think, the Flo Jo's, then the Pinstripes. And we gave the Pinstripes up only 3 years ago.

idioteque
06-30-2008, 11:12 AM
The pinstripes are just too busy IMHO.

And with the rest of the retros, they're fun to bring out on a regular basis. I actually like the pre Flo-Jo jersey (the one they had, I think, when Reggie was a rookie) and wouldn't mind seeing that brought out every year.

You have a good point. I say let the season play out a bit and then see what happens. If we're pretty good but we're overlooked by the media and other teams (which is inevitable if we are good IMHO) it could be appropriate to bring them out. I mean, a lot of those Flo Jo teams were underdogs.

Excatly. My dad told me what the word underdog meant during those years because I kept hearing that word on TV when it came to things about the team. I do think it would be a great motivator. B.Rush said he wants to be like Reggie? Make him look like Reggie.

I think the best looking jerseys were probably the ones right before the Flo Jo's. Post Flo Jo's everything has been ugly, the most recent ones especially are incredibly forgettable in my eyes and I am hoping we don't have to suffer with those for more than 5-7 years.

I think the obsession with Flo Jo's has to do as much with the success of some of those teams more than the look of the jerseys themselves. Yes, we were good with the pinstripes too, but those were inexcusably hideous.

For a few years running, the pinstripes were the best uniforms of the NBA per popular vote.

Let me see if I can find something.

I mean, I can understand that, at the time, they were decent.

But as time has moved on and tastes have changed they just get uglier to me. They fit the fashions of the time well enough, but they really weren't equipped to be "classic" like the Flojos, IMHO of course.

Best unis right now? I think Miami's are slick without being overdone. Same with both LA teams.

I've hated every Toronto uniform, and honestly I think Houston's rank among the worst IMHO.

I think the FloJo's were the best looking basketball uniforms, ever. For any team.

I think the Pacers should still be wearing those just like the Lakers, Bulls and Celtics don't really alter their look, either.

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Pacers Marketing department to roll out a new set of jerseys so that the Pacers have a new look to symbolize the new direction that they are trying to take. I think of it as a team "reborn" with a new look so that fans have something new to associate with.

Toronto, Miami, and LAL all have the same uniform basically, and it is tasteless. Each team no matter what should have their own unique uniform.

I am completely happy with our current uniforms. they are nice, and not too busy to look at.

I do have a problem with our away uniforms, though. I do like the idea of filling in the sides with gold instead of leaving them blue. And with the gold alts., fill the sides in with blue.

While I was a major fan of the Pacers back in the flojos days, and even owned a couple Reggie Miller jerseys from that era, I think those are horrendous designs. I liked the pinstripes, but they look dated now. I'm really a big fan of the new jerseys, and especially the yellow alternates. They're so classy and understated. Minimalist in style. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Now I especially like those throwback jerseys that they wore. I think Reggie did wear them when he was a rookie. They're lighter blue. Those were awesome.

Yeah...But the best throwbacks are the types that just make you look good instead of those that make you look like it's 1988.

See: The Niques, the Dr. J Sixers, the Kareem Bucks, the Gervins, the rookie MJs, the Penny-Era Magic, the Zekes, the Bill Walton vertical Blazers, the Wilt "Phila"s, the RUN TMC Warriors, the Reggie Theuses or the rookie Iversons.

Those are all hot and fairly timeless (aside from the font in some cases).

The Flo Jos look very much of the "In Living Colour," Kid N' Play and Hammer Pants era. Cool at the time...not so much something you wanna be wearing now.

The throwbacks look a lot better than the actual uniforms during Reggie's rookie year. Maybe because thay were soooooo tight.

For some reason, it wasn't as tight on Reggie:D

I really liked the pinstripes, IMHO.

I'm really glad I was able to get a JO pinstripe while I still had the chance.
My brother got a Reggie one too.
I think my mom got a Croshere one.

The jerseys we have now are, kinda boring.
IMO.

Okay, they aren't THAT boring.
the alternates and away jerseys are fine though.
Like Dukie said you can really see the players sweat in the alternates though. Ekkk.

My all-time favorite is the '72-'73 uniform - especially in white. I also liked the pinstripes.

I'm Pro-Flojos.

I don't think the jerseys have been ugly. I really liked the pinstripes and our current ones are simple and sweet.

Dude in the purple suit with white pokka-dots in the Addams Family music video is my co-workers cousin. He's still got the suit.

I agree. The only uniforms I didn't care for were the bright blue and gold ones from Reggies rookie year. Probably mostly because we had some awful teams in those jerseys.

I think one of the reasons I don't really care for our current uniforms is because all they've been associated with is mediocre to god-awful teams.

Plus all of the off the court problems have mainly been with these uniforms on, but it started late in the pin-stripes life you could say.

I do remember when the new uniforms were released I liked them a lot and they still are not bad jerseys, it's just we need better people wearing them.

Toronto, Miami, and LAL all have the same uniform basically, and it is tasteless. Each team no matter what should have their own unique uniform.

The yellow alternates were great. Especially these new ones. The only downside is that you can see the players' back sweat way too easily.

Our uniforms have the same general cut and layout as the teams you listed above with the addition of Detroit. The fonts and side fills are the only differences. By the way, I think ATL needs to go back to the unis shown here instead of the boring ones they have now.

I still don't like yellow jerseys very much, especially ours current one. There needs to be some lue along the sides to cut break up the color overload. Of course, I am a fan of being clean and simple, hence my preference of the Bulls, Spurs, and even the Celtics. Our new ones fit that as well. the Suns and Bobcats are just horrible.

Flo-Jo's are the best, but I think it's because I was growing up during that era, and the teams were so darn good. I liked the Pinstripes when we introduced them, but it was time for them to go, and it's definitely not time to bring 'em back.

Reggie's rookie jersey is a close second to the Flo-Jo's.

Nah, they are gone for good for a while. Those as a matter of fact helped fashion our current unis.

Must we post pictures of Jermaine in blue and gold? I'm just now starting to accept the fact that he's gone.
