This is for us ghosts, but obviously we can't reveal the secrets.

(Except one, btown is a hemaphrodite. But who didn't know that?)

There's never much rhyme or reason in the early rounds. It's just a crap shoot for the most part.

Unless people just don't like you and want to see you dead. Like me. But now that they know how much more annoying I can be as a ghost/zombie, maybe they'll be a little slower on the trigger in the next game.

Our confusion approach to killing worked for a while. You guys had no idea what the strategy was. If the coin flip that killed INDY hadn't happened, the wolves might have already ended this one.

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 02:31 PM
Eh, some of us knew you and Indy were wolves before Round 2 was over. The issue was convincing people that I wasn't a wolf and to listen to me.

bellisimo
06-16-2008, 02:33 PM

I was fairly sure Indy was a wolf for nearly the entire game, but Rasko and Belli and I decided to chase others as a group for awhile. I didn't really pay much attention to you, Gyron, for most of the game, but once I reread your posts it was pretty obvious you were a wolf.

I totally blew it with Hoop, however. Man.

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 02:51 PM

Sorry - it's hard enough getting everyone's votes the first time around. If we left it open for vote switching, the game might degenerate into even more of a mess than I've turned it into.

Don't be sorry - you were absolutely right to close the vote when you did. Can't wait on folks forever and I knew the night before that I wouldn't be around yesterday. I have no hard feelings about anything with anyone.

When this is all over though if people are interested I'd be happy to share the post/PM combo I mentally composed while driving back and why I think there's a very good chance it would have put the town in flames.

The seer problem has happened before, don't worry about it. It's a flaw with the game I'm trying to work out.

Shade
06-22-2008, 11:46 PM
As long as "the seer problem" doesn't mean that the real seer was killed and we weren't informed, then I don't think it's a huge issue.

Pig Nash
06-22-2008, 11:49 PM
I was just referring to people running around in the thread saying they were the seer without fear of repercussion.

Shade
06-23-2008, 12:04 AM
That's what I assumed you meant.

Hicks
06-23-2008, 01:53 AM
I disagree that it's a flaw. I don't see it that way at all. It's just another way to play the game.

The wolves already know who all the humans are. If anything this should make things easier for them because they would know at least one of the two "hidden" roles.

They know the angel is either protecting the "outted" seer every night, leaving the entire roster otherwise free to eat without worry, or the angel gambles the same night the wolves do, and the seer is toast.

I've never understood having a hidden seer, for that matter. If they can't tell people who is who, what's the point? Sure, they can PM. But if they PM everyone, that's the same difference as making a public post because the wolves know who they are.

Pig Nash
06-23-2008, 06:24 AM
The spirit of the player is not not even reveal himself in the pms but to drop hints as to the identity of other players and convince people to vote for them. it works ok like this but I just don't like it.

btowncolt
06-23-2008, 07:38 AM
It makes the game completely impossible for the wolves to win - you get to that point no matter what if the seer lasts more than 4 or 5 nights...

Trader Joe
06-23-2008, 08:38 AM
Whenever I play the game in person with a group of people the seer almost always reveals himself.

SoupIsGood
06-23-2008, 08:41 AM
Is Hicks not the seer?

Trader Joe
06-23-2008, 08:44 AM
I don't think thats a question that should or can be addressed right now.

Thats part of the challenge.

And part of the risk of a seer (or possible seer) revealing himself.

btowncolt
06-23-2008, 08:51 AM
I shouldn't have said anything till the game was over, just frustrated.

I'll get into the "why" afterwards.

DisplacedKnick

Perhaps a solution could be having the angel and wolves not being able to pick the same person twice in a row to save or eat.

btowncolt
06-24-2008, 01:22 PM
The only solution that maintains the wolves ability to win the game is the standard, default rule of the characters with roles not being able to go public. I should have spent a minute thinking about why the rule was there (or at least checking to see if it was and THEN thinking about it). The "why" here is fairly simple - maybe mostly for me because I can see the game playing out from a much different perspective than anyone else.

Congrats on bagging an angel wolf people!

When this is all over I'd be interested in finding out if you suspected him at all or just got lucky. That first kill attempt was painful.

I knew he was the angel ever since he saved himself on the first night. He lied to me about in a PM of course, but I knew. However, I'm not a wolf so there was no reason for me to help them out.

A July break would be good. It would also give us time to consider rule tweaks to mix things up and to maybe revise the characters (in terms of what we call people and how that could change the basic storylines used).

Who is the wolf? He is supposed to be Toxic Avenger. Some say his father was a wolf. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever directly saw him, but to hear someone tell it, anybody could have been the last wolf.

You never knew. That was the wolf's power.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world who the wolf HAD to be.

And poof. Just like that...

I didn't like getting killed off on a total fluke - I'd picked my persona before the game ever started. Actually, if it had been contemporary I was gonna be a CIA/FBI guy sent to investigate a suspected terrorist cell. When it went back 500 years I decided Priest/heresy worked pretty well too - nicknames never entered my mind. Would've preferred to be a Benedictine but the Dominicans were the Pope's number 1 heresy fighters.

Of course the key to my persona is that he was a twit - he had this idea that he'd been selected by his superiors to keep the world save for democracy/from the devil taking over when in reality they couldn't stand him and sent him off on a meaningless job because he was a pain in the @ss.

Pretty sure if I'd had time for PM's, etc., I could have saved myself, at least in the short term (one, maybe 2 rounds). Particularly since, as is so often the case, the Wikipedia Article is wrong.

So your order wasn't The order of the wolfish canines?

Hardly - actually the Dominicans had a painting done and hung in one of their churches - Florence I think. They were very proud of it. Showed dogs, their hair the same color as Dominican cloaks, chasing wolves away from a herd of sheep. It was titled "Domine Canes."

Of course I didn't even know that until I got wondering what the hell was going on. I just wanted to be a member of the order that was the most arrogant and self-righteous. Was gonna have a good time making fun of the Church as things went on but never got the chance.

N8R
07-08-2008, 01:02 AM
I like the two Angel idea. Would they have to work together to protect one person or they each protect who they want? Cause the seer is cool but it did become hard for the wolves to have a chance at winning with so many confirmed Humans.

Hicks
07-08-2008, 09:33 AM
I still say the wolves could have done better, not that it's too pro-human for the seer to reveal himself. I wasn't protected by the angel much, if at all, and could have been stopped at any time. If you get burned by that, then just start eating whomever the seer confirms.

btowncolt
07-08-2008, 09:37 AM
How would the two angel idea make it less difficult for the wolves?

I think we're definitely going to invoke the "no going public" rule - although I am considering a few tweaks that would allow the seer to go public, but result in immediate death. Sort of a last resort option.

btowncolt
07-08-2008, 09:44 AM
The problem with that, however, is that the wolves simply can't afford to risk eating either the seer or angel (because the angel was confirmed in the first night in this game) - meaning both are protected. The wolves can't risk having more than one night where they don't eat anyone. That allows the angel to then protect a third person - so three people are effectively protected every night. So with three people being protected, and the seer getting to either confirm humans every night or find a wolf, the odds suddenly tilt vastly in favor of the human block. The wolves can eventually go after the seer or angel when they're desperate, but at that point they know they can't win. Even if the angel is unconfirmed, the seer and one other person (presumably the angel) are protected.

It just tilts the game too far in one direction - there should still be some question as to who is going to win with a handful of players remaining (barring some fortuitous hangings in the first few nights).
