IU's Jordan Crawford to Transfer
by Terry Hutchens

Indiana University point guard Jordan Crawford plans to transfer, school officials said today.

Crawford averaged 9.7 points a game as a freshman last season and would have been the Hoosiers' leading returning scorer. He started eight games last season and was a key member of the backcourt rotation.

Crawford becomes the 11th player to leave IU since the end of the season.

His departure leaves IU with one returning scholarship player, senior forward Kyle Taber, walkon Brett Finkelmeier and freshman recruits.

What's the deal? Is this old coach / interim coach / new coach transition that freaking traumatic?? This is a horrible program meltdown.

IU basketball is like a very expensive diamond ring. Normally that ring is priced out of reach, but for a short time only it's 80% off.

Not my words... Tom Crean's words.

He hinted that there was worse/more to come. I assumed he meant the NCAA's decision this summer. Maybe he wasn't talking about that but this Crawford departure. Or maybe he was talking about the NCAA decision and Crawford knows what Crean was hinting at and wants no part of playing during a 'death penalty' year at a sanctioned school.

He also said some kids are going to have a great opportunity to be a part of the group that turns IU basketball back around.

Till IU removes the ones who caused all of this mess, We are in trouble. A school which was one of the great BB schools in the nation is now junk. Fire that bunch of idiots.

This is just really hard to take. Some enterprising journalist ought to document this whole fiasco -- beginning to end -- from Davis' departure on. Heads should roll, and not coaches' heads.

People transfer schools all the time. It's just not usually the whole team.

I guess Crean will truly have his team out there on the floor this year. I predict a long year ahead for our Hoosiers.

I didn't see the Crawford thing coming so it's a huge surprise. But I still think all that has happened will turn out to be the best for the program. At this point things can only go up so everything should be a pleasant surprise. They have my support.

I mean at the very least in four years we are going to have the most experienced team in college basketball. If we can land one or two monster recruits we will be back and ready to go.

Let him go. Down the road we will realize he passed up an opportunity to play under a great coach.

Just think, after a season in the tank they will have a high draft pick, maybe even #1!

Oh yea, never mind. Are they back on State's schedule yet?

with or without crawford, this team will be extremely luck to make the nit. i'm not kidding. this was pretty much going to be a complete rebuild anyway. i simply accept that they won't be any good for at least a couple of years. and that would be with or without crawford. i think crawford knew the team was going to be bad- really bad and iu may not even get a chance to play postseason anyway (not that it will matter) and concluded that he would rather take a chance elsewhere. i wouldn't have minded that he stay but, oh well- that's how it goes sometimes.
they will be good again but not next year. probably not for at least a couple more. its gonna take a while to get out of this awful mess sampson and some current iu employees made.

So.... isn't Crawford from the Detroit area? Did McCallum go to coach a Detroit school?

Hmmmmmm

If Crawford goes to U of Detroit, so help me God I will lose it. Especially if Bassett goes there as rumored. We already know he took Holman.

According to Wikipedia the only time he was in Michigan was when he was an assistant at U of M for a year.

Personally I don't understand why people are so upset at the thought of Crawford going to U of Detroit. Unless you're a big Butler fan I just don't get it.

via wikipedia....

Ray McCallum (born March 6 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_6), 1961 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961) in West Memphis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis%2C_Arkansas), Arkansas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas)) is the current head coach for the men's basketball team at the University of Detroit Mercy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Detroit_Mercy) and is a former player and head coach of Ball State University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_State_University). From 2006 to 2008 he served as an assistant coach at Indiana University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Hoosiers). Previously, McCallum also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_University)

That's why people are upset at him possibly going there, and if Armon goes like rumored that would make 3 IU players from last years team that left to play for McCallum

There's an undercurrent of potential 'recruiting' by McCallum of players already with another school (IU).....McCallum might've learned this from Sampson. The Illini are probably laughing pretty hard right now at what they might consider Karma.
