As our current game rapidly approaches a terrible, bloody, and sheep-filled close - it's time to get the sign-up going for the next game.

With Pig Nash's blessing (he wants to play), I will be running the game. There won't be a mayor, as the votes with be a simple majority rules. In the event of a tie, there will be a legit coin-flip.

Sign up now and I might keep the sheep stories to a minimum. Or maximum, I don't know what floats your boats.

Players:

1) Pig Nash
2) SoupIsGood
3) Gyron
4) Shade
5) Raskolnikov
6) Hicks
7) Bellisimo
8) Hoop
9) Indy
10) Since86
11) naturallystoned
12) DisplacedKnick
13) Robertmo
14) Arcadian
15) The Toxic Avenger
16) Newman8r
17) Suaveness

I'm in for sure.

If the humans can nail a wolf today, they have a chance. But the game has been well-played so far. If I didn't know who was who, I don't know that I would have been able to figure it out.

It depends on what my schedule will look like. Movie ripoffs are very time consuming.

Pig Nash
06-10-2008, 05:42 PM
I think that would be an interesting addition to the rules, a useless wolf would help the humans, although if it was Shade every time, the humans would have too much of an advantage. hmmm...

Raskolnikov
06-11-2008, 08:31 AM
I say we postpone Shade's death as long as possible next game. I really don't want him to hang around in the thread as a ghost again, annoying the crap out of the living humans.

Plus, believe it or not, he is actually a rather good player.

I've been following the current game and I'll have a much better idea how good I can be at it if I find out if I have the wolves pegged right - I have 2 very firm suspects (and have had for a couple of days - they keep incriminating themselves by surviving). If I was playing I'd go back through the whole thread because I think there should be enough there to get a handle on who else might be one.

I'm gone myself from the 13th-19th - and will not be greatly available for a day or two each side of that. The current game only started June 2 though and will be done by next week.

Even if you get 20 players you're talking what - a little over 2 weeks max with daily votes?

I think the rules and the setup need to stay the same, but you can swap out certain variables (like switching from wolves to aliens) without affecting how the game works.

I'm not a fan of adding ghosts and the like into the game.

If someone makes a Ghost Thread for the next game, I'll use my (non-werewolf/alien/sheep-related) powers to move any post from a ghost in the "game thread" to there to keep things clean.

If that's what most of you would like.

Trader Joe

It's theoretically possible, but it would be a bit of a hassle. The real problem, however, is that we have Administrators playing the game, and Admins can of course read any board, hidden or not.

I'd like to do a Cylon-themed one some time. Instead of hanging someone, we shoot them out the airlock. Each night the Cylons kill someone in a variety of ways (bombs, fires, removing the oxygen from their quarters, etc.)

btowncolt

No that's not the goal, the goal was simply a different theme for the same game.

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 01:02 PM
Okay - so I'm trying to figure out how far people want to go in variation. Are you then saying you're opposed to anything but hanging if there's a wolf theme?

Frak that.

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 01:37 PM
Okay, well, if people want to do another theme - then I will happily listen to input. If people pick a theme I have absolutely no knowledge of (what the hell is a Cylon), then I would be out and someone else can run it.

Hicks
06-16-2008, 01:57 PM
Okay - so I'm trying to figure out how far people want to go in variation. Are you then saying you're opposed to anything but hanging if there's a wolf theme?

Not at all. While I don't see the point in deviating from hanging if it's still the wolf theme, we can experiment with it.

All I was musing was to take what we've been doing, and give it a totally different set of clothes to wear, even though the rules would stay exactly the same.

I'm fine with the status quo, but I'm interested in a different theme for the same game. Like how there are all those different versions of "Monopoly" out there. They look different, but they play the same.

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 02:01 PM
Okay. My only interest is at least keeping the theme something I know enough about off-the-cuff to be able to have more than one or two stories - even if the stories are just short quips.

Trader Joe
06-16-2008, 03:03 PM

btowncolt
06-16-2008, 03:05 PM
Changing the names and situations is okay, but if we get into actual substantive rules changes - we have no way of predicting who that will benefit more.

Trader Joe

I agree. I was just throwing something out there. For example the wolf cub, looks and acts like a real wolf, but if the wolf cub is killed during the day then the wolves get two kills that night out of revenge.

The Toxic Avenger
06-16-2008, 03:18 PM
There could be the option to "Convert" or "Infect" a human instead of killing him... Thus making him a Wolf in the process. OR make it a Coin-Flip as to whether the human dies or "Turns".

Maybe put a limit on how often the Wolves can Infect a human.

Its probably been tried before but it sounds interesting.

Yup - great job! Of course he picked a history period I'm interested in - not sure if that will kill me or save me. I could have too much fun playing history and forget about the game.

It seemed like a good time period for people to go a little nuts with things. I'm trying to make the stories open ended enough that people have their own characters...

Great stories, btown.

I have SO much material to use on this one. I should probably slow down a bit though. Plus my employer might want me to actually get some work done.

Thanks for running this one btown, it was fun for me while it lasted, hopefully we can make this something that is hard to get into and maybe even multiple games at once (obviously with different rosters). It's a lot of fun.

I have now decided that I think the Angel role sucks though. If he saves a human then hurray but that happens at most once a game and it makes the human that it saves too much power during the voting. Bellisimo had one person follow his lead this game and two games ago Tyrion was leading the whole town around like lemmings who assumed he knew what he was doing. The bigger problem is that it lets the a seer run around in the thread spouting out answers with no fear of getting eaten. (if this is really the case, someone can also do it just to draw attention to themselves or to misguide the rest of us.) I think the easiest way to rid ourselves of this problem is to get rid of the angel.

Now some might say that gives the wolves too big of an advantage so I have one thing that might help fix it. Wolfsbane. One character has wolfsbane and if the wolves try to kill him, he survives. You couple this with not telling who didn't get eaten in the story the next morning but just saying the wolves didn't eat anyone.

Any thoughts?

When I played Mafia, if someone is saved the narrator just said no one died so no identity is given.

I like the hidden saved people more.

I think that could be a good first change. Obviously not in this game though, can't change rules midgame.

Yeah, this isn't the NBA.

about the wolfsbane character - when the wolves realize that the person they decided to kill lives...they'll know who that is...and they'll just decide to go after the others from there...doesn't really make too much of an advantage...

can't say that i like the hidden saved people that much...its hard as is when everyone is running around saying that they are humans...we do need something a bit more solid...

If you want a middle ground only give the Angel and/or seer a limited number of uses - maybe the same number as how many wolves there are in the game.

I'm with bmo on the wolfsbane - in some ways that helps the wolves more than the Humans.

i don't think it helps the wolves. It's not like they can kill the wolfsbane character ever so they'd have to try and get him during the day. The best thing for the wolves to do would be to just ignore that guy, or try and kill him during the day.

If the wolfsbane is a no go, what about just not telling who got saved in the morning and still having an angel.

Same sort of deal - you've just given the wolves information the Humans don't have.

I've only played the game once so take that into consideration with what I say.

I have another suggestion but it could influence the current game so I'll save it for later.

I just like making up crazy little story's, I don't care what rules are used.
I have a very limited range though, crude sex jokes, drug humor, and animal fetishes, after that I'm out of material. :D

I would hate for a psycholigist to analyze some of these threads, they'd probably lock half of us up.
