Ok, I haven't seen an advertisement on the Internet in over a year. I'm a heavy Adblock user, and so I don't normally have to put up with all of this crap. But I'm test-driving the Firefox 3 Beta, and Adblock isn't up to speed yet.

So I'm wandering around the unfiltered internet, and I can't understand how people do it. What I really don't understand, though, is this Zwinky thing. Their ads are everywhere. I'm not going to the site because it has "data mining/spyware peddler" written all over it. But I've got to admit I'm curious... what's the fascination? Those guys are spending a ridiculous amount of advertising money... where do they get their income?

Basically, what's the business model?

they are owned by IAC Search and Media. The same people who own ask.com (http://www.ask.com) and excite.com.

Short of looking at the site it looks like they make their money through people signing up to be part of their virtual world and probably from ad space on the site.
