New thread, same as the first.

As much as I've grown to dislike the Spurs, I just can't pull for Kobe and Co. in this one.

Lakers in 7.

Lakers in 6. Not because the Lakers are a significantly better team, but because the Finals would be marginally more entertaining.

I'd prefer LA win simply because I think we stand a much better chance of beating them in a possible finals.

That said, the Spurs are a matchup nightmare for LA. I'll be shocked if LA wins.

I don't hate these Lakers like I hated the previous Lakers (2000-2004), so that's not much of a factor.

Despite Bowen and Horry, I still like the Spurs better.

I hope the Spurs win, and I think they will in 6.

The Finals are going to be 2005 all over again. Spurs beating the Pistons.

I hate Bowen and I hate Ginobli. There are no two players in the NBA I hate to watch more than these two. I consider them on the same low level that I consider the Pats.

So LA all the way. It's just too bad they probably don't stand a chance. Isn't Bynum done for sure? He is getting surgery I think.

I'm for the Spurs and think they will win in 6 or 7. they match up better to the Lakers than they did NO. I'm also rooting for Detroit just to disappoint almost everyone outside Det. and SA.

The Refs. I hate both teams. I can't stand the Lakers because of Kobe, and the Spurs are just plain dirty. Besides I am sick of them winning all the time. I will take the Zebras.

Who will win: Lakers in 7

I want the Lakers to win. The Lakers will win in 7.

I absolutely hate the Spurs. I am going to be sick to my stomach if that cocky/flopping/whinny bunch gets into the finals again. I would definitely root for Detroit/Boston against the Spurs, but will root for LA over either one.

The Lakers because it spites more people and they're the only team left I don't dislike.

Although I could be open to the Spurs winning it would be another ratings disaster for Stern and his *** deserves to suffer...

I'm a big Spurs fan so I'm sooooo happy they won this game 7... This only performance and the series in general has renewed my hope in them and I truly believe they gonna win it all again this year. Plus I've never been a huge Lakers and Kobe fan though I have liked him a little more this year due to his more mature approach to the game. But still Spurs in 6. As Kstat stated the match ups are horrible for the Lakers and I cannot see them win this one in any way...

And please stop calling them dirty, they just play, plain and simple. The finals vs Pistons will be great (there's no way Boston with the way they've played during this post season win this series, Detroit will probbaly pull a win in Boston and it will be the end...).

GO Spurs!!

Mourning
05-20-2008, 03:38 AM
Well can't say I like the Lakers much and I have always liked the Spurs and in particular Duncan and Ginobili.

But, I think it would be good for the league to have another team get the Championship this year.

Change can be refreshing, so that's why I am slightly in favour of the Lakers winning the Western Conference Finals this year. Besides I don't dislike Kobe as much as I used too and Gasol and Odom are on my good side, sort of.

I can't stand Jackons though .

Anyway, Lakers in 7.

Regards,

Mourning

As a Laker hater from way back, I have to say, I'm rooting for them
vs San Antonio. I just can't stand the thought of the possibility of
another Spurs-Pistons series and probably wouldn't watch much
more than 15 mins of it.

Lakers in 5.

The 1st game is 100%. Rested LA agaist tired SAS at home.

After that LAL need only one game out of 2 in SAS and to win the rest two at home.

Spurs are shooting very poorly, they are missing too many uncontested shots from outside
They score very little inside, and outside even their best shooter, Ginobili, is very streaky.

Lakers can not be so bad offencively.

I think Jazz were the 2nd best team in West in the playoffs.

Detroit will take Boston in 6 and lose to LAL in 5.

I would have to say I expect the Spurs to pull it out in 7. As an old school fella though I would like to see a Boston/Lakers final to remind me of the good old days.

However, as much as I hate Phil, if Boston were to beat Detroit, I would enjoy seeing Phil get #10 against them. If Red was still alive, I wouldn't feel that way, but that's how much I hate Boston now.

As far as who I would want to win, I won't root against either team for a reason directly related to them. But I guess I'd have to root for the Lakers, just because I don't want to see another Spurs/Pistons Finals. Who do I think will win? Well, all year I've been picking San Antonio. But there's something about this year's Lakers club... and with them playing fewer games so far than any other remaining team, and having a younger bench than the Spurs plus home court... I think I'm going to pick the Lakers in 7. Should be an epic series.

Another for the Spurs, here.

They are a dynasty, which I don't like.

But the Lakers are just nasty, which I don't like even more.

I would prefer that both teams lose. In any event, the Spurs will win. The Lakers have not faced defense yet and their role players will fold. BTW, for those counting, the 3 best defensive teams in terms of points allowed in the league are the Spurs, Pistons and Celtics who are all still playing. Just something to keep in mind.

Also, the Lakers face match-up problems. No Laker will slow Duncan considerably. Parker will blow by old man Fisher and can handle fish on defense. Ginobili on offense and Bowen on defense will keep Kobe busy.

This series is over...ok, maybe a bit early.

Still waiting on the Chris Paul PG dynasty too.

Defense and dominant big men win championships. I guess superstar SG's like Kobe and MJ do it as well, but not this time...

Why do so many try so hard to make a definitive "call" on a series as early as humanly possible? We've seen one half of one game and the series is already over?

That could be it. Anything could happen, but I don't even see the Spurs stressing to move the ball to get a shot. That and the fact the Lakers seem unable to score against the superior D are the tell-tale signs.

IMO, the Laker bench has to totally outplay the Spurs or Kobe needs to explode. The other Laker starters will struggle on offense against the champions.

...and it's far too easy on Duncan. He owns Gasol....which will make his defense better.

...poor Kobe...

Major Cold

They need to put Turiaf on Duncan. They need to trap Parker. They have to slow down Parker.

Also Udoka is going to be Bowen's replacement if he continues to buy into this system.

Young

Kobe Bryant is amazing. Watching the game he pushed the Lakers to victory. Anytime they need a big shot he will hit one for them. It's just sick what he can do out there on the court.

Spurs have been around the block enough that this won't bother them.

Might lose them the series because we'll find out they needed that game to get to 4 but I don't see it as being because they have some sort of mental breakdown.

Folks said the same thing when Kobe hit that miracle shot and the Lakers won game 2 vs Detroit in the finals. Detroit was tough enough that it didn't bother them and the Spurs are too.

I agree 100%, the Spurs won't be impacted mentally - but I am a huge believer that as the road team you have to win the games when you have a chance. And the road team usually only gets a chance to win 1 or maybe two games in a series - assuming the teams are even or close to even. So the Spurs likely will look back on game 1 realize they lost the series right then. (edit, not to suggest the Spurs won't win the series)

I don't believe momentum carries over from one game to the next, in fact I believe in negative momentum - which means the team that lost game 1 tends to come back and win the next one, especially if game 1 was a blowout.

Anyone who thinks this series is over is kidding themselves. The Spurs still have 3 chances to steal a game in LA.

I want the Lakers to win, but this series is going to 7.

The Bulls in 93 went down 0-2 to the Knicks and still won that series. I think the Spurs mental toughness somewhat resembles the Bulls.

You'd think that, having been around the block enough, they wouldn't blow a 20-point 3rd quarter lead.

That's just not how this game works. Two teams are out there, and at times one side simply enforces its will. Likewise, sometimes one team is just hitting their shots. Usually a combination is in effect. I don't look down on the other team for that unless they're blatantly playing like clowns out there.
