Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- New Jersey Nets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=njn) forward Richard Jefferson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3523) was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault for grabbing another man by the throat in a Minneapolis club earlier this year.

Jefferson was in town with the team on Jan. 27 when, according to a charge filed, he went to a club in the Graves Hotel where the victim was having a private birthday party in a roped-off section.

The documents say Jefferson entered the area and got angry when he was asked to leave. He is accused of grabbing the victim, shoving him to a bench and choking him with both hands.

Nets spokesman Gary Sussman had no comment. Jefferson's agent did not immediately return a phone message.

Jefferson's first court hearing is set for June 18.

Just imagine if this was Ike Diogu or someone on the Pacers......

Somehow I don't think RJ will be called a thug.

Who cares what he does on his own time?

Second line.

Wow. Really? I hope that's just a joke.

Interesting that this apparently happened. I recall this being reported back when it happened, but no media outlet (save one article -- RealGM??) touched it, so I think most assumed it must have been mistaken.

Yesterday I was looking at possible trades and I thought that Jefferson and Hassell would be a better trade for JO than Carter and Hassell.

I know he is a small forward but I was thinking of sending him on to Portland in a three way and getting one of Portlands point guards. Now I know we won't want him and neither will Portland. Memphis has three point guards too, but they don't need a small forward.

I don't know who else we could trade Jefferson for in a three way. Anyone got any ideas?

Oh, so he was just in training in case the trade went through. Well good for him and his initiative.
